Owner description: The historic Long Bar returns fully restored and continues its proud tradition as the Home of the Singapore Sling. The famous counter shines like new amidst decor that marries architecture and contemporary plantation-inspired motifs. Long Bar was located at Cad’s Alley in the early 1900s. At a time when improved rail and road systems brought rubber and palm oil plantation owners over to Singapore from Malaya every weekend, it was known as the ‘Rendezvous of Planters’. The earthy decor of the two-storey Long Bar is inspired by Malayan life in the 1920s. The deep, rich colours and lush greenery transport patrons to the edge of a tropical plantation. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the table and bar counter to the floor. This is quite possibly the only place in Singapore where littering is encouraged.

Yup went to the long bar for the $26.00 Singapore $$$ Singapore sling & it hit the spot on a hot & humid day. You have to do this @ least once while you are in Singapore.

If I was reviewing this as a bar experience, it would get a very poor rating indeed. I asked for the Singapore sling, and asked for it to be made from fresh. I was told it would be but it arrived too soon, so it was obviously a pre mix. It was okay, nothing special at all. It cost, with taxes $30.60 SGD and came with a bowl of peanuts. The staff were in their own world, all except the doorman was was friendly and helpful.
I have given an extra star because frankly if you're in Singapore, you have to have a sling at the Raffles. I didn't buy a Singapore sling glass, I was tempted as it was a momento, but when i got home I found one in my local charity shop for a quid!

I had a walk around the outskirts of the hotel which was lovely, the hotel museum and shop and took at photo of the Punjabi doorman, but stopped short of buying a cuddly toy of him!

Whilst the sling was a bit sweet for my taste the Long Island ice tea was great. The setting is colonial grandeur and it did not disappoint, food was reasonable for a hotel of this standard, the drinks well typical of Singapore a little pricey but worth it as a treat!

nice atmosphere, love the old furniture and the free peanuts. besides its one of the only place in singapore where you are allowed to litter your peanut peel on the floor. the singapore sling was very good but bit too pricy (S$30)...

Yes, you will pay 20-30 dollars for your drinks in here, but then again I managed to pay 18 dollars for a beer in much less historic places. The cocktails are not pre-mixed but made in front of you, and I quite enjoyed my half yard of ale. A Singapore institution, give it a whirl and go with an open mind.
