Tried out Museo, a new restaurant on Quayside isle after reading about it in the newspaper. The main attraction was the art studio - you are provided with paint and canvas and brushes - it promised to be a good lazy afternoon spent with the girls.
We arrived early for our 1:30 reservation. They were still setting up - not open yet. So we went for a stroll along the quay. The place has a lovely vibe to it. Yachts in their berths, one degree 15 marina. When we returned at 1:40, we were still the only ones at the restaurant. We had asked for day-bed seating next to the window. The day-bed we chose had food scraps on it. When I pointed it out, I was coolly asked to choose another. No apology. No offer to clean it up. Didn't stop there. He went on to tell me that the person who took my reservation made a mistake, and that the restaurant only opens at 2. I pointed out that the website said 1:30. He disbelieved me till I showed him!
The place remained deserted throughout our lunch, save for a pair who I suspect were from the media, for an invited tasting. The waitress took the opportunity to brush her long hair on an adjacent empty table. I was told that they are mainly a dinner place, and the vibe picks up in the evening.
The food was good. They have a mezzanine set of 4 dishes for $38-39. A mix of tastes and textures. The fried Camembert cheese was particularly good. Soft shell crab was nice too. The girls ordered from the al-a-carte menu. The asparagus soup was rich and creamy. The food presentation is unique - in glass bowls instead of plates which adds to the flavour, I think. The glasses are vintage and quirky. The fruit beer was good, though the strawberry cider was too sweet.
And yes, the girls did get to paint in the end. But the afternoon could have been much more enjoyable had they got their act together before they opened. They will eventually get there, I'm sure. Just wait a few months till they do.
