“Afternoon tea with the girls”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

We went on a Tuesday afternoon at around 4pm. It doesn't open until 3pm on weekdays. We had tea and cake. The cake selection was fantastic! I had sticky date pudding which was sooo good. We also took home a cupcake each and the peanut butter and chocolate one I had was good but not rich enough for me.

We sat outside on overlooking the carpark but don't let that put you off. Beyond the car park is the Riders Cafe and Saddle Club (you can't actually see the stables or grounds from the verandah though) and there were a few horses wandering by.

We were all by ourselves on the verandah that day. There are fans and there was a nice breeze so we didn't find it too hot at all. I had the baby in the stroller by the table and there was plenty of room. There are stairs to walk up though so you would need help taking it up.

You will need to catch a taxi or drive but if driving there is plenty of parking and it is free. The menu looked good so we'll be back for dinner or brunch on the weekend!

“A perfect Christmas brunch!”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Our family ended up celebrating our Christmas brunch at the Marmalade at the Stables because all the restaurants ("inns") offering festive dining were at capacity. But what a fitting place for us to celebrate the Christmas feast! Though small and located within the Bukit Timah Riding Stable, the restaurant was both elegant and comfortable. We were greeted by a wonderful spread of gourmet cupcakes which immediately drew the attention of our two daughters. But before hitting the chocolate hazelnut and red velvet cupcakes, they savored the tomato soup and spaghetti with meatballs. The roasted chicken and avocado caesar salad was crisp and fresh; its dressing did not overpower the roast chicken and fresh avocado slices. The scallops in the seared scallop linguini were tender and juicy and the prawn bisque sauce made the dish. However, the roasted poussin topped all of them! Finally, do not miss the caramelized pear and salted caramel bread pudding. One bite of the pudding and you will catch yourself singing "hallelujah".
The ambience was pitch-perfect. Almost all of the customers dining inside were families. The restaurant had a patio cafe with a bar, and most of the customers we noticed there were couples and groups of friends. The atmosphere was cozy, warm and welcoming, and the service was excellent. We are looking forward to our next visit!

“Nice quiet location; good food and service”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

I have been here twice and both times, I was pleased with the food, the service, and the ambience. For those who are familiar with Marmalade Pantry, you will find this a very comfortable fit. The menu looks very much the same and I would recommend the crabmeat linguine. The texture is excellent and the rich tomato base has a little bit of a zing to it. The tapa bread is also very good. I've tried their basque chicken and while good, it wasn't really my thing. What I liked best about the place was the ambience and the location. It is set back against Eng Neoh Ave and is away from the bustle of everything else. It is one of two restaurants that is set against the stables and it pretty amazing to see the horses trotting by. Very nice place for a Sunday brunch.
