“Pleasant Stay in the Starting UP Phase.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

We had a pleasant stay in January 2013, just after the opening of the hotel. Everybody of our team liked the concept and of course the fabulous architecture. Staff of the hotel was very helpful and friendly. Food from menu and buffet was excellent, as coffee lovers we regret to say that coffee was horrible although they had the best coffee machines you can dream of. Way to rooms were long, but always a pleasant walk. Rooms were stylish and of course very clean and the views a pleasure. The hotel is located in walking distance to down town(appr.15 minutes), china town (appr.5 minutes)and singapore river(appr.10 minutes). The pool and fitness area is amazing, but it was a pity that there was no bar up there at the beginning and we had to wait quite some time for food and drinks.

Dear PetaParka, thank you for your review and it is great to hear from one of our first guests!!! I am happy to know that you loved the stunning architecture and sustainable features of the hotel. I am also pleased to read that you recognised the hotel’s great location and ventured to many cultural and vibrant spots in Singapore. I have taken note of the your comment on the coffee and you will be glad to know that we have started serving light bites and beverages at the poolside. I personally like our new coffee blend and would love to welcome you back to do a comparison... Thanks again....David

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013 via mobile

Booked a stay in the Junior Suite on 24th May after recommendations from a friend. Was pretty excited about hotel stay after hearing positive comments.

We arrived at the hotel slight past 3pm and had to wait a good 20 minutes before front desk could attend to us. After 10 minutes or so of verifying details for the check-in plus deposit, we were told that the hotel was not sure if they had a room ready for us. Official check-in is 2pm and by the time we were done with check-in, it was near 4pm and there's no room. This is unacceptable as check-out time is 12noon and by 4pm there is still no room available? We had to wait for another 15 - 20 minutes for a room. I requested for a late check-out since we got the room so late and was told that because they are running full capacity, the latest I could check-out was 1230pm. If this is how strict the hotel is with check-outs, there shouldn't be cases where we get our rooms past 4pm - yet was not offered any late check-outs the next day. I was also taken aback when I saw a frontline staff glare at another colleague during the course of my check-in, it was a little unsettling.

Anyway all that negativity aside, the hotel lobby is pretty, relaxing, all new and nice. We liked the comfy chairs in the lobby and high ceilings as well as the water features. Next, the room - the junior suite was quite small as compared to other hotels (48sqm) but it was very cosy and pleasant. The all glass windows allowed loads of natural light as well as the sights of Singapore. Although the hotel has day and night blinds, there were gaps in between so don't expect a full black-out when all blinds are down. The bathroom had all the usual stuff - shower, rain bath, tub, separate toilet, two sinks etc. Room had nice lightings and being new, all was pleasant. The bed was comfortable too.

When we have settled in, we found a problem or two. There was a patch on the carpet in front of the bathroom that was wet - since front desk told us that the room was just cleaned before we moved in, we assumed it was wet from the cleaning and would dry after a while. After a couple of hours, the patch was still wet. We called housekeeping and requested for an additional floor mat so we could place it over the patch not having to keep stepping on it when we entered the bathroom. The towels took a while to arrive and we were given bath towels instead of floor mat - does this mean the bath towels we have could also have been treated like floor mats by other guests as well?? Oh well, we used the towels anyway to cover the patch. Over time the towel became wet as well, not only was it wet, it turned yellow! This doesn't seem like a simple case of wet carpet from cleaning but a leakage problem. By this time it was already morning and we didn't want to kick up a fuss afterall we had to check out soon. There were a few other small things that we found - wet ice bucket and glasses, water stain marks on table top, low quality drinking water (the bottles were dented or simply started to sink once we opened them, low quality plastic or..). The name on the TV screen was also not updated and there were some leftovers of a party (stuck on the walls) held in that room before us. These are all small issues but it all adds up ultimately.

Overall it could have been a better stay but we were really disappointed as it was meant to be a birthday celebration and we had a couple of hiccups. We had expected more out of ParkRoyal hotels, considering the price tag of the rooms and the hotel being a new property. The hotel is not ready to be 5-star, although new and nice but it is still lacking in many areas. For similar rates, you might wanna consider staying in a deluxe room at the St Regis, the rooms are bigger, more luxe, you have a personal butler and no problems like we faced here all for just a few tens of dollars more. Just my two cents.

I stay there for 3 nights; in the orchid club room. The hotel is in the good location(China town). It is very easy to find the dilicious food or go to the other place in Singapore by MRT. There are 4 receptionist, it is not enough for work(slow working). My room is in the13th floor; the room is very nice and clean( but the maid forget to clean my room in one day). Breakfast is on the 16th floor, very good view there but i am not impression with the food so much because just have eggs, mufffins. It is not the full cause breakfast( not reasonable with the money that i pay), and just have only 3 persons for working(compare with guest ~20 persons at that time).Ummm... I think, if i go to Singapore next time, i will try to find the other hotels intead. PS. Very nice bed and pillows

The service was polite and helpful and better than our last stay in Singapore at a more highly rated hotel. The concierge was very helpful and reception staff also were attentive. The room was good although did not like the external walk between elevator and room. On our check in there was no milk in the room to make tea and coffee. The breakfasts were excellent and comprehensive. It was very conveniently located a 100m walk to Chinatown MRT

Firstly, official check in time was at 2pm but when reached at 3.30pm to check in, we had to wait aimlessly and they were unable to advise when the room will be ready. Reason given was that they were running on full capacity the night before. Finally after an hour of constant checking with front desk staff, the room was ready. It's strange that we had to constantly run to counter to check on status rather than them coming to inform us. Room was nice and cosy. I especially like the different light settings. They did forget to put in hand soap in my room, had to ask to request. Overall, good hotel with its hardware. But could do much better with service, especially at front desk. First impression really counts.

Dear JovialAce, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I agree that 60 minutes is way too long to check-in and I will personally investigate the cause of the delay and review the systems for improvement. Thanks again and it’s good to know that you enjoyed the room...David

The Hotel is very impressive, rooms are well set out, bathroom is fantastic. Now the rooms are Hi tech,so it would make sense that you are given advise as to how every thing works rather than spend half the day making sense of this lovely room. This is just the start of how lacking the service is.Room service was a disaster that food was a small in size an very very ordinary in flavor,an so on it went that the service was terrible, however the bright light in the entire staff was a lovely lady called Melisa up on the 16th floor could not be more help full in providing information on what to do an see in the area unlike the conserige who said go to the end of the street an turn right

Room Tip: wait for 12 months until they can train the staff

Came in mid night, which was pretty late due to a late journey from KL. my original booking was booked for the next day at another hotel but couldnt check in due to some hotel policy and decided to give park royal a try. Being late and tired and just wanting a good nights rest with my wife, we decided on a superior room. Upon checking in in the wee hours of the morning, a receptionist by the name of Robin suggested we gave the deluxe room a try just for an additional sgd$20. Worried abt my precious car, robin suggested that i park my skyline in front of the hotel. Valet charges was if not mistaken around sgd$12. Pretty reasonable.

After unloading the luggages, the same receptionist decided to help us with our luggages. Not bad for a mid night check in. Room wise, its clean and looks cozy. My wife loved the view of the room, as apparently it overlooks a part of the hotel and the city.

Sadly its a non smoking hotel.
