This tiny little French/Chinese bistro is hidden at the far end of the Marina bay shopping mall. If you are at the ground floor of the food court by the skating rink and look up to the third level you will see Au Chocolat, the bistro is adjoined to the Au chocolat pastry shop which has a number of delicious desserts. We were amazed at the main meals served from this tiny little kitchen, you could see the many chefs all busily cooking here. The waiting staff were quick and efficient.

This is the chocolate shop to visit for everything chocolate! Chocolate heaven. The only failure this store has is it's bad service, or lack of service. We purchased a drink only and decided based on that kind of service we decided not to eat there.

There is a window to the kitchen where you can see large chocolate creations being made and molded. The artistic creation is outstanding and jaw dropping.

My wife and I eat there often. A variety of foods in the French style. If you want anything with chocolate they have it.

I have been to this place three times, with three different groups of friends and all three visits were terrible. I have since vowed not to return ever.

Let's start with the positive. The atmosphere/decor seeks to bring diners to somewhere in France. It can be pretty charming-looking with brown/taupe hues and warm colours.

That's about it for the positive.

Food - very common food, nothing spectacular. (Fries, lasagne etc.)
Cakes - the classic/normal cheesecake we ordered (not the berries or the oreo ones) was very dry. The S'mores cakes didn't have a taste of anything. I'm absolutely serious. I couldn't taste the crackers or the chocolate or the marshmallows. Neither could my companions that evening.

Service - they need to seriously overhaul the service here. Staff were not motivated to smile, despite the cheery-tones and warm decor. They do not provide tap water even if you've ordered desserts worth close to S$68.
You need to buy expensive bottled water.
And no, they do not provide ice for your tea if you prefer your Chamomile tea iced. (There was no iced option for their teas, at least not for the herbal or blended teas.)

One thing the staff had plenty of was their attitude.

As I said, service here needs an overhaul. I believe in second chances. But when you continue to muck up on a third try, on separate occasions, I think it's pretty much a goner.

Singapore has loads of other cafe/bistro/restaurants (or whatever this place wants to be called.). Do yourself and your pocket a favour and dine somewhere else.

Made a reservation via online booking system "Chope" for 5pax and specifically requested for a high chair as my friend will be bringing her child. No high chair in sight until we asked for one. If you allow your patrons to wheel a pram in there, at least have the patience to allow them to settle their kids. A pair of helpful hands would have helped to wheel the pram out while service staffs looked on.

A senior staff kept hurrying my friend who arrived later to make her order while she was busy putting her child on the high chair.

Earlier on while making an order, my friend was about to take a sip from her water bottle only to be told off by a senior staff that "no outside drinks are allowed". My friend apologised and asked politely if they serve water only to be told "NO". Basic service training would have covered an alternative by informing patrons that water can be purchased. I am guessing no such training was received.

Given that this is situated in a tourist attraction and the price they charge, service standard and charges should be justified. Maybe they are only interested in one time business and not looking for continuity in business. All that fanciful decoration is enough to attract customers but bad service puts me off.

Love the waffles and truffle fries but I will not visit again.
