Description: A contemporary ambience - high ceiling, wine bottle-lined pillar and tall wide glass windows - that infuses easy conversations, thought-provoking discussions at corporate events and inspires old fashioned romance in Singapore's downtown financial district. Amarone, a restaurant and wine bar, takes its name from the rich Italian dry red wine made from the partially dried grapes of the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara varieties, offers customers a full-bodied dining experience like the rich flavours of its namesake. For convenience, we also offer take-aways as well as artisan Italian produce.

There are not many good restaurants in the business district. This is one of them . Big room , high ceilings, very friendly service . Tasty italian dishes and specials of the day by Osvaldo . Good choice of wines . Reasonable prices . To be recommended for lunch.

I decided to use the MRT system to get to my client's office near Tanjong Pagar. On exiting at the Robinson Road exit I walked past this restaurant Amarone's to see that classic European scene, the Maitre drilling the staff on the day's menu etc. I decided I had to try the restaurant ... and did that night. This is absolutely genuine Italian cooking and if you think that is easy to find eat here and see the difference. The dishes have that authentic rustic character based on fresh vegetables done well, some classic pasta dishes and the unusual (for Singapore) e.g. rabbit. The wine list is also excellent, with a big list of, of course, Veneto wines but also some great halves like the 2004 Altesino Brunello and a must try 500ml Barbera that I later found out is from the owners village. The staff here know the wine, the soup of the day (how often is this not known!!!) and are very comfortable making recommendations. Book ahead, it is being discovered.
