This is one of the best museums I've ever been to! So interesting and heartbreaking to see how the Chinese immigrants lived and worked.

The museum was not even on my list for our 3 days in Singapore, but it should be on yours! We were just passing after lunch in hawker center on our way to the mrt, and decided we had time to visit. So glad we did!

You get an audio guide and make your way through the 3 floors. Plenty of places to sit down, listen and enjoy all the small details.

My favorite was the interview with the doctors daughter.

The museum has ac, so it's also a great way to escape the heat.

This is a great activity to start your trip in Singapore. It gives a quick view on the sad history of Chinese migrants who came to Singapore in hope of a better life.
You can take your time, listening to the stories and interviews via the self guide.
If your self guide does not function well don't hesitate to let the very friendly staff know. They'll happily replace it for you.
With your ticket you can go get a curry snack (next to the museum) or a egg tart (just across the street of the Chinatown gate). I preferred the curry snack but both were nice, at least they force you to taste some local delicacy.
You'll spend around 2 hours here.

We expected to pop in for an hour but there is so much more to these 3 shop houses knocked together than that. Excellent audio tour giving a real insight into the lives of early Chinese migrants. The tour looked at trades, education, health, entertainment, traditions. Well worth a visit - good value. We even got a free curry puff from the street vendor next door after the visit!!

This is history done right. Accessible and interesting. Well laid out and kept up. Super interesting information, the audio headphones are really needed for the experience and although I would have made each one about 3/4th long, they were really interesting.
I liked the first two floors best, it was a lot of information to digest and by the end, I was breezing through the rooms. BUT it was still very worthwhile and I highly recommend it at the start of your time in Singapore.
