“Great place for a family stay in Singapore.”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

First time we have stayed at a Somerset property and stayed her after reading some other TA reviews. There were four of us in a 2 bedroom apartment and we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment had everything you could need including free WiFi and even the basic breakfast available downstairs in the morning was quite adequate or there was a supemarket next door. The location close to Clarke Quay was great with just a short walk to the MRT and places to eat out for dinner Jumbo's etc. The staff were very helpful and the other reviews have mentioned construction noise but we didnt notice it at all. The pool is shared with the Novotel and is a nice place to relax and never crowded plenty of seating under nice sunshades. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a 2 bedroom on a higher floor but did have to wait a while for the lifts so maybe lower floor...

One of the best hotel apartments ever come across, awesome view from my2BHK apartment balcony looking towards Marine sand Bay and Singapore Flyer, it is best for family with grown up kids, beautifully decorated rooms, furniture, beddings and kitchnatte.Swimming pool shared with Novotel, connected with nearby mall. Best part is location, Liang court, such a lively place during weekends, food and wine is the life line of singapore and one can have the best evening here.Breakfast is Ok not very great , location is again best of best, well connect with malls,MRT, garden and river along liang court

Room Tip: Choose view towards Marine sand bay and singapore Flyer

Stayed in a two bed apartment and this was quite a great size and well furnished but the floors were a bit grubby and the kitchen in particular could have done with a scrub. Comfortable enough although the building work nearby is constant day and night (and likely to continue for some time). Location is good for access to Clark Quay restaurants and bars. We were in a room that faced away from there and didn't have the noise from the bars. Staff were very friendly and helped with luggage and transport.

Good location in Singapore, close to MRT stations, restaurants, night life and some shopping centres. Building is a little old, this is mostly cosmetic, but internally the units are modern and large and very good. They have a minimum number of nights stay and Singapore is not cheap by asian standards. The pool was good (shared with the other tower Novotel). The building on on top of a shopping centre with a supermarket (japanese) and several restaurants that weren't too bad. Also close by is Clarke Quay. The only problems are the noise, which can be quite bad (we faced Clarke Quay nightclubs) and they haven't installed double glazing. on the other side is a construction sites for MRT Station entrances, so you will get noise from one or the other. The other problem is the breakfast with was poor, room too small for the number of guests and the offering poor/minimal by Somerset and other apartment/hotel standards.

Our family stayed at the Somerset Liang Court over Christmas, occupying a 2-bed Premier apartment. On advice from earlier tripadvisor reviewers we had asked in advance for a room away from the construction site - they allocated us one directly overlooking it!

The best thing about the hotel was the location, just a few minutes walk from Clarke Quay with loads of different restaurants and bars, and a really buzzing atmosphere (plus a huge fountain, in which kids - and the odd adult - could run about). The MRT was 5 minutes walk away. Attached to the hotel was a smallish mall with a food court and a very useful large supermarket in the basement.

For a family, the 2-bed/2-bathroom apartment was very handy. The master bedroom was huge and could easily have fitted an extra bed. The twin bedroom was much smaller, but with plenty of storage space. Shower pressure was good. The apartment was clean. Having the lounge and kitchen area made it soon feel like home.

Facilities at the hotel were fairly basic, though the staff very pleasant. The pool (shared with next door hotel) was fine - large and with plenty of beach towels and sunbeds available. It was relatively chilly at the time so that might have capped demand.

On the downside:

- breakfast was CHAOS. The kitchen staff tried hard with very limited facilities, but were overwhelmed by demand. There did not seem to be anyone with a managerial role, so newly arriving guests just had to crowd among the few tables hoping that the occupants would soon leave. Demand for tables was so great that staff had no chance to clean them between customers. When we went down on our first day the food had run out altogether. We gave up and (along with many of our fellow hotel residents) opted to take our breakfasts in McDonalds in the mall next door.

- the noise from the construction site was ever-present but it never got so bad that it significantly disturbed our sleep or spoiled our holiday. Presumably can be worse or better depending on what work is being done.

- wifi was awful - we could hardly ever get a connection and, when we did, it was too slow to work properly. There was a lot of competition between us for the single wired connection!

The hotel itself is nothing flashy but the apartment provided good value for money which, combined with the excellent location, meant that overall we had a great stay.

Stayed in January 2013.

Pros:
Central location (very close to 7-11, in the heart of attractions)
Rooms serviced daily
Staff friendly and helpful
Free in-room Wi-Fi
Nice pool and deck
Breakfast nice and easy

Cons:
Value was a little poor, but expected for that time of year.
Rooms from the outside looked ugly, a much needed refurbish.

4/5, highly recommended.
