I stayed here in August 2012 for 9 nights with 3 adults and 2 children. We stayed in an executive 2 bedroom apartment on the 9th floor.
Positives: great location, spacious apartment with good amenities including a washing machine and 2 bathrooms, very clean, we had a quiet apartment facing the marina bay sands hotel so there was always something to look at, great pool area with plenty of pool lounges and towels, had a shopping complex attached which meant it was easy to get supplies and eating at the kopitian food court was cheap and tasty.
Negatives: hard bed and lumpy pillows, breakfast was very bland and no tv in second bedroom
Would I stay here again????
Definitely!!!

Stayed herein premiere 2 bedroom apt for 9 nights.. When we first checked in they put me in an executive 2 bedroom instead of the premiere and they soon realized they made a mistake after I made a few calls..
So they moved us to 1401 and it was bigger .. But before a technician fixed the main switches .. Because the main switch blew up the fuses..

The room had some degenerating conditions especially the towels which were with yellow stains and the pillow sheets which were with pencil markings from previous tenants

Again the cleaning services let down.. We told the reception about the soap and shampoo dispenser in the bathroom to make sure that they had to be checked and refilled but they were not.. They missed these twice in 9 days which was crazy I think.. Especially when they do not service the room on sun and public holidays and for 3 days we were given a tube of soap and a tube of shampoo ( it was even half- used) !! Cmmon this is supposed tobe a 5 star or at least 4 star

We were quite disappointed with the cleaning services with the towels pillow sheet and the cleaning procedures .. We may consider another property after we pay so much .. What a let down

stayed in August 2012;
staff is friendly and helpful; pool shared with Novotel is OK but nothing special; construction noise on one side and night club/traffic noise on the other; car park available at extra charge; appt are comparatively big but a little tired; b/f buffet is a disaster: cramped location, no fresh coffee, food like in a cheap canteen; shuttle bus to CBD only; gym equipment is mostly VERY old. Kitchen equipment is rather minimal (eg no wine glasses).

location is VERY good IF your main interest are the many many restaurants at Clarke Quay, otherwise high dependency on taxis / public transport.

Room Tip: your choice whether you prefer construction site noise or the "mpf-mpf-mpf" from the clubs...

Booked a premier apartment from 20–27 July 2012 at $253 P/n thru Expedia. Requested a quite room on Clarke Quay side but on arrival was given corner room 1401, right above construction site (see photos). We asked immediately to move but were advised that all rooms on south side were booked out. The young girl Mary who booked us in was exceptional and did everything she could to help out. She offered several options and showed us rooms so we could decide. Room 1103 on south side became available 2 days later and we took it. So much quieter and allowed us to enjoy the remainder of our holiday.
Hint: To get away from noise ask for room numbers 03 to 07 on Clark Quay side (see photo of floor layout)

Generally most construction noise was bearable except for the constant beeping of equipment reversing. This drove my wife crazy and being a light sleeper she didn’t enjoy it. It’s a bit of a mind game and if you can ignore it you can live with it. If however, you are a light sleeper then it can drive you crazy at night. My 2 sons and I had no problems sleeping but then we are mere males after all.

There are two types of Premier Apartment (A & C) with different layout.
Type A which we had first in 1401 has a much larger kitchen and lounge area which we preferred. Type C has a huge main bedroom but a much smaller kitchen and lounge area. The second bedroom was also a bit smaller and no real floor space to put luggage.
There are two of each type on a floor ie Type A - 1401 & 1407 and Type C - 1403 & 1409.
Make sure you request preference at booking and also follow up direct to hotel with an email.

Overall this is a great place to stay but the noise from the construction site is an issue.
If you can get an apartment on Clarke Quay side it’s great, otherwise you may be best to look elsewhere if you know the noise will annoy you. I think management should advertise these at a lot cheaper rate and make it quite clear you are getting it at a discount because of the noise.
Will be fantastic place to stay once the MRT is completed in 2017?

Pro’s
Great location central to Clarke Quay and short cheap taxi rides to everything
8 min walk to Clarke Quay MRT which is cheapest way for long distance trips
Excellent value for money with everything you could need in apartments
Separate airconditioning in each room
Staff were friendly, helpful and always welcoming
Great shopping arcade below with plenty of food outlets and a large supermarket

Con’s
Breakfast is very basic and can get busy (go at 9.45am and miss the rush)
Showers are in bath with high step in and out (be careful)
Soap is liquid in dispensers – much prefer a bar of soap (take your own)
Central atrium is open at top so lift areas can get hot, humid and wet

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on Clark Quay side

Have just returned from an 11 day stay in Singapore with my husband, mum and 14 yr old son. Definitely delighted we chose this place to stay. We had a really good sized appartment with 2 bathrooms and a great view over Singapore. It is excellent value and I think more freedom than staying in a hotel in the area.

Staff were fantastic and helpful but everything went smoothly and we didn't have to bother them for much. the first day we arrived our appartment was ready at 9am (early arrival from Japan) and it was above the dreaded buildng site. However, we asked for moving to another and it was no problem. We were on a lower floor but still 13 stories high! Washing machine is most welcome on longer trips! Daily clean in appartment which is fantastic. We didn't go to breakfast area ever as we were happy to have some cereal in our own time, usually before leaving to explore Singapore.

A shopping centre is below with a Hawkers food coyrt which is fabulous value and food is amazing. I loved the 'Food Republic' food court in Suntec City but there are loads around. Don't be scared to try them it is the best experience you'll have and we ate many times for ease and healthy options available!

Gym is okay. it has basic equipment but it still functions fine. Location is 5 mins from MRT station which is also cheap and simple to use. theres a bus stop outside and a taxi rank. I never had to wait longer than 30 secs for taxi and they are much cheaper than UK! Location was fabulous and you can walk to Chinatown in 20-25 mins if you like. Clark Quay is a bit overpriced considering the fantastic food options in the area nut it is pretty buzzy at night and an experience I'd recommend. Boat trips also leave from here.

Overall would recommend this highly and I would definitely use Somerset again if I was returning to Singapore. I have nothing to complain about with my stay here and I'm really fussy and stay and dine in some high end places. Great for flexible base and with a larger group.

Myself and 3 friends travelled to Singapore for a 10 day stay. We stayed at Somerset in a 2 bedroom apartment and couldn't have wished for anything better. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, TV and airconditioner, hairdryer etc. They were always kept lovely and clean and large enough not to be in each others pockets.

Buffet Breaksfast was included and had a variety of things for everyone.

As for the pool area what a way to relax after a hard day sight seeing. You could use the pool area from early morning until 10:00pm.

Best location. Somerset is central to everything. MRT station across the road, bus stops around the corner and taxi ramps 5 minute walk away. minutes walk from Clarke Quay which during the day was a pleasant relaxing area, and at night was a hub of activity. There was always something different to see or do. Plenty of different restuarants to try out, or if exhausted from a days outing you could get it to take back to your room.

As it was so central, it was in walking distance to a lot of the areas, Chinatown, Orchard Rd., Marina Bay.etc, or an inexpensive taxi trip. Various shopping complexes in the area along with food courts if you are looking for a quick inexpensive meal. Added bonus is a supermarket next door down in the B1 area.

As for the staff at Somerset you couldn't wish for any better. Silvan and all the staff were always happy to assist in anyway they could. Nothing was too much trouble, and they were always ingterested in how your day went, how you enjoyed it, and what you were up to the next day. It was lovely to be greated every time you came or went with such happy smiling faces.

We all agreed that in all the places we have travelled to that the Silvan and all the staff for the most friendly and helpful we have come across.

Even though there was construction going on next door, this didn't bother us at all, quite the opposite. Before going down for breakfast we would watch the hive of activity going on at the site, try and work out what they were doing and after a full day out we enjoyed checking out their progress.

We plan to return to Singapore in a couple of years to check out how the Gardens on the Bay has expanded and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

Located right in Clarke Quay, in day time, you can enjoy the nice and quiet riverside. At night, the area transform into a nice clubbing area with many choices on bars and restaurants. Live band and street performance is just at the corner.

On transportation, MRT station (Clarke Quay NE5) is just in 5mins walk. River taxi is at doorway. If you like, you can walk alone the river to the Merlion and Marina Bay. It just talk arround 30-40mins and the view is great. Also walking to China Town and From Airport to hotel, if take Taxi in non-peak hours, costed less than SDG25.

Hotel room is great and comfortable . Clean and large. Breakfast is ok, just at 9am, too crowed and refill is a bit slow. If go earlier or later would be fine. May request for the river view room and higher floor as our room is facing the construction side.

A small shopping centre with food court, starbucks, McDonald, Subways and a large supermarket is just located next to the hotel.
