This place is totally over-rated. It's menu is really pricey for the type of food served. One can get better quality and food in other sushi restaurants.
If you wish to have better food served in this restaurant, my suggestion to you is to book the sushi counter seats in advance. Do not get a private room as you will not get to interact with the chef and thus will not get the personal touch.
If you have the extra $$ to spend, just go straight for the celebrity restaurant in Marina Bay Sands; Waku Ghin :))

I walked in without a reservation & managed to secure a seat at the sushi bar where I was well taken care of by the master himself. Prices are steep though they do offer a S$60++ option. I went up a notch & opted for the S$120 set menu. What I was served was an exercise in freshness, simplicity as well as display of the aesthetics of kaiseki cuisine. After an amuse bouche & a selection of appetizers, we proceeded to the crux of my visit visit - the sushi & sashimi. Without a doubt this is the best sushi I have ever eaten in Singapore or elsewhere for that matter. The freshness of the seafood was without doubt as I understand Sushi Ichi gets three to four shipments a week from Tsukiji market in Tokyo. There are subtleties which are lost on at least one of the other reviewers who posted on this site. Sir (and you know who you are) it is a travesty that you compare sushi of such exceptional quality to a lesser establishment. There is simply no comparison. Factors such as the temperature of the rice as well as the right amount of vinegar are crucial. The sushi was so tasty & flavourful that soy sauce was unnecessary. I ate mine without & never missed it. At the end of the day with tax & service, the bill came to around S$200. But there will never be a complaint out of me. It is money well spent.

This is a good place around Orchard to have a comforting visually appealing lunch. Hailing from Tokyo, the cuisine is a study of subtlety of taste, harmony of aesthetics and top echelon supply chain fish. It is derived from Kyoto Keseiki Kyo-ryori which incorporates aspects of ikebana (flower arrangement) and sado (tea ceremony) into the basic idea of eating. Before you rush there with your DSLR camera, i must say that the lunch menus are rather high priced. The basic $60 menu made me feel on my first visit that they were trying too hard to dumb down their craft to fit the i\limited budget. On this visit, on advice of my paying client, I ordered the $110 (next from the bottom). Price aside, I was much happier with the experience. The 8 sushi pieces were all fresh and succulent but frankly so were the fare at much lower priced joints along Orchard. As for the artistic display, I supposed I was concentrating on adding value to my lunch discussion and none of the presentations made any strong impressions or perhaps they were lost on me.
