Description: La Cicala rebrands the tapas concept to take on an exciting, contemporary and casual-chic dining experience and introduces La Cicala Borderless Gastronomy and BarDescriptionLa Cicala announces a complete revamp to its menu and restaurant concept, offering guests a dining and bar experience that is bold, new and smart. Re-branded La Cicala Borderless Gastronomy & Bar, the menu boasts borderless gastronomy that goes beyond, and defies, fusion. Borderless Gastronomy is the breaking of traditions blending international elements, combining ingredients, techniques and ideas from Spain, Italy,France, Japan and South-East Asia for a sensorial experience and intelligent cuisine that defies the norm. "We researched as to what the market wants and subsequently, revamped our menu, and the entire direction, to meet clients’ needs and desires," says culinary-trained restaurateur Edwin Lau. "We learned that diners want greater diversity and brilliant experiences with food." The result is a casual yet chic restaurant and bar that is contemporary, approachable and vibrant. Dark hues dominate the interiors; soft lighting and sleek mirrors and panels, combined with dark earth-toned furniture, the establishment is modern but inviting and relaxing, perfect for an easy evening of drinks and good food with friends or a loved one. The new menu, more adventurous than its precedence, with innovative food and experimental styles specially created by Edwin, will get diners thinking, with what Edwin refers to as smart food. His innovative culinary techniques and imaginative play on presentation and colour, and experimental takes on flavours, Edwin discernibly combines European favourites with Asian influences, coalescing unconventional tastes, textures, forms and colours, for extraordinary flavour and visual appeal. Signature dishes and special creations that showcase the Edwin’s immense flair and sheer ingenuity include “Pato”, a delectable slow-grilled challand duck breast with daikon and wasabi; “Patatas”, a confit of grenaille potatoes featuring a surprising bacon cream, olives and shaven jamon; “Cordero”, a dish of roasted Welsh lamb saddle with Iberico Chorizo, chickpeas ragu and apricot mustard jus; as well as “Ajillo”, a subtle yet tasty gambas sautéed with fine wine, garlic, fresh herbs and piment d’espelete. The Bar is also well-stocked with a vast selection of fine wines, renowned sakes and an assortment of cocktails and liquors.

“Best Tapas Bar in Singapore”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

This place has only been open about 6 months but I have been here about 20 times already for both lunch and dinner. We never bother looking at the menu or wine list, leaving it to the discretion of the head waiter to produce the best La Cicala has to offer. And what is on offer! Fantastic jamon de Serrano carved off the bone, stewed squid with potatoes, roasted asparagus, pimentos stuffed with tuna, chipirones with some kind of spicy mayo, delicious meatballs, spicy ham and cheese croquettas, the list goes on and on as long as you want it to. Very interesting wines from various parts of Spain. If you have a large enough number try to book the high table.

“Location great, food just ok, service poor”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

Arranged with friends to meet at La Cicala last night for dinner.
Had cocktails on outside patio, which was nice. Within minutes of arrival the Sommelier was at our table asking if we needed recommendations from the wine list. We said maybe later when we had dinner. The cocktails - especially Sangria were great, but need a wee bit more booze in them. Dinner was just o-k. we ordered 8 tapas for sharing as recommended by the waiter between 4 of us. The portions were very small and not really enough to be considered dinner. Service was slow and rushed. The table was too small and the plates of tapas would not fit. We asked them to "slow down" as they were bringing all 8 plates at the same time. Had to ask several times for drink refills. The Sommelier , again seemed more interested in pushing expensive bottles of wine. Dessert was pathetic. We ordered the creme brule. It was like soup and did not seem cooked. The chocolate sausage was sliced very thinly and placed on what tasted like small slices of stale bread with some sort of cheap Walls' ice cream . One of the worst dessert selections I have ever had. The Sommelier finally scored with a bottle of Spanish sherry. However we would have loved to have offered to have some cheese with it. We could not seem to flag down a wait staff to ask, By the time we finally got someone to pay attention - the Sherry was almost finished so we did not bother. In summary - a good place to stop by for an after work drink but I would skip the food and go somewhere else on Club St for dinner.

“Tapas Typico en Singapura”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

Authentic Spanish Tapas in a modern Club Street setting were recently enjoyed by my friends and I. We started with cocktails on the outdoor steet patio - very decent Gin and Tonics with juniper berries and nice white wine. We moved in and enjoyed a variety of delicious and quite authentic tapas recommended to us by the maitre'd. Portions are small...so order several to share. Food was very good...and ambience enjoyable. Only reservation - SERVICE - virtually none...we kept having to ask for refills of drinks and other things. Wish they'd "up their game" ...but like so many restaurants in Singapore, service is lacking.
