We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.
Upon sticky beaking the front desk I noted the regular tariff at $280 per night. We paid $139 booking.com for a superior double. I would have definitely not paid the regular trariff based on the room offered. I was quite dismayed when I opened the room door. The photo's on their advertisments give you a false illusion of space.
Location: Central to anywhere you would like to visit in Singapore via MRT, having two train stations at your doorstep (Outram Park and Chinatown)
With a minute walk to the China town complex.
Room: We booked two rooms, our friends got a room with a balcony and we got a room with no balcony. Our windows were also boarded up half way giving us no view to the road below.
I felt very claustrophobic. Even the shutter style windows provided to give the illusion of space did not help. The room was air conditioned.
Take Note.....You will want to feel very, very comfortable with your partner if you are booking this room because there is no option for visual or audio privacy. You couldn't swing a cat in these 2m X 2m rooms you will be stumbling over each other because there is no room to move.
The bathroom is a wet room and you could go to the toilet and shower at the same time because the space is so confined. The shower is more or less over the toilet. So this means your toilet paper gets wet every time!
The bathroom is entirely glass with a translucent glass in the middle supposedly to offer you privacy. You can see and hear everything. Unfortunately, you can't muffle the sound of toileting and the sound effects are in digital dolby sound. Some couples like to keep certain things private. If you wanted some privacy from your partner you would have to ask them to leave the room whilst you do your business and if anyone has a bad belly then a gas mask would be needed because their would be no escape from the smell. Our travelling companions took turns to the leave their room during those critical times.
I would only book this room if I was travelling alone.
Our room was situated on the road so it was quite noisey at night and in the very early hours of the morning we were awakened by the heavy duty street cleaners.
Cleanliness: Well cleaned
Entertainment & Food:
You are surrounded by Bars, cafes clubs and eateries. The top end of Keong Sailk is reminiscent of Paddington in Sydney. Upmarket, expensive somewhat overpriced drinks. Approx $17 for a beer in one bar.
Towards the lower end heading towards Chinatown, there are cheaper eateries and one on the corner is featured in the top 25 places to eat in Singapore.
You are also right next door to the now famous and only Michelin Star Rated Hawkers Stand, "Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken and Rice Noodle".
For a familiar breakfast experience McDonald's is a 5 min walk. Don't expect to eat your regular egg & bacon mcmuffin meal as both are replaced with chicken.
Staff:The reception staff were mostly friendly. One male staff member was seen regularly sleeping either in a chiar at reception or on the waiting room lounge.
The cleaning staff were quite chatty and friendly.
Getting Around:
MRT - train travel, most efficient service and stress free form of transport I have ever experienced. Trains literally run every few minutes. No queues! No panic that your going to miss a train. Trains to suburbs are all run on coloured lines. Very easy to understand and navigate.
Both announcements that are made as you approach stops and in train stations are all in English. Trains do not have seats in rows like Australia, instead seats are on the sides of train, (minimal seating so be prepared to stand) enabling you to see the depth of the train. This is interesting as you can see the train move in a snake like movement through the tracks. This also means you can see everybody on the train with you. You are not alone in a carriage making you feel very safe.
You can purchase a card for $5 which you keep adding credit to. It reduces the standard price for travel. If you have money left over you will be credited.
You can also purchase a standard train ticket and reuse this 6 times, with a reduced price of 10c each time you travel.
Fares are cheap and getting to your destination is very quick.
Trains are located at Changi airport and you can train to your hotel as we did with ease. Train stations are extremely safe and well thought out. They are very clean and hardly resemble a train station that we are accustomed to in Australia.'
Note: When exiting Outram Park MRT Exit H - new bridge Rd - walk straight - first left then left onto Keong Sailk. This is the easist route to the hotel.
Something Nice: The hotel does offer complimentary water. juice, softdrink all day. This was great on those incredibly hot days.
