“Luxurious and close to shopping malls”
Reviewed April 11, 2009

My daughter and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 4 nights, we did not have breakfast in the hotel. The room was average size, TV with good channels, NO internet (its available but you will be charged), well-stocked fridge, good AC, shower (no bath tub), you need your room card to go up the lift. There is a lovely swimming pool behind a beautiful park with a jacuzzi. I paid £117 per night for a twin, non-smoking room without breakfast, which was quite pricey. This hotel is in the midst of so many shopping centres, MRT, bus stops, hospital. The taxis are quite popular because they are honest and cheap. Grand Hyatt to the airport will take about 25 mins.

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt Singapore for 4 nights in the all-suite Grand Wing, on the Club floor. The Grand rooms are 55 square metre suites, but despite a refurbishment 3-4 years ago, the accommodation looks tired. Carpets looked and felt dirty, and the the much-touted Bang & Olufsen televisions produced poor sound. The Grand rooms are good value for the amount of space you get, but they do not feel luxurious or cosy, in my humble opinion. Hanging space is quite limited.

Toiletries need to be of a higher quality and at least of L'Occitane or Molton Brown standard - this is a Grand Hyatt after all, and the shampoo and conditioner smelt and felt like dishwashing detergent. Biggest disappointment of all was the Club lounge on the 20th floor, whose breakfast spread was the poorest I had ever seen at any Hyatt or chain-hotel's Club/Exec floor. When I brought this to the manager's attention, he admitted that space constraints prevented them from putting out a larger spread, but I suspect it's cost-related. There was plenty of space in the lounge where additional platters or chafing dishes could have been installed.

Loved the new Damai Spa - amazing treatment rooms, designed around Japanese Zen gardens and bubbling streams. It was so tranquil that I fell asleep, helped by the hands of my massage therapist. The gym was pretty well equipped too. Pool area nice and tropical, but felt very exposed, being surrounded by buildings on all sides. I felt so vulnerable in my bathing shorts!

For the prices charged by the Grand Hyatt, I'd look elsewhere. Unless you absolutely insist on staying in the Orchard/Scotts Road area, there are far better hotels in Marina Square (the Pan Pacific) and Raffles City (the Swissotel Stamford).

Stayed in this hotel for one night and was really pleasantly surprised with how nice their new rooms are. Really really great rooms, nice big LCD tv's, DVD player, great chair and really great work desk. The beds in the room were really nice and with nice big feather pillows! very comfortable rooms. The Bathrooms were very nice but one pet hate with Hyatt's is their "own brand" crappy body products that they use, I really do wish they would put something decent in their rooms!. The location of the hotel is just off Orchard Road which is fine, my preference when in Singapore is the Marina area as its closer to my business commitments and I just like the area better. The only downside to this hotel is that every thing is very expensive, like the charge to use the internet $50, what a joke where do these hotels get off charging this for only 24hours so we can check a few emails!. The other thing is when I checked out at around 545am I had to struggle to the front door and flag my own taxi down, no help offered by any of the staff behind the desk!. All in all I think this hotel is very nice and if you want to be around Orchard Rd then its in a great location, but really for the price they are charging ($350+) you can do a lot better in Singapore, one big thing is this hotel does not have any views of Singapore from your room!

This was our first hotel on our round the world month long trip, we arrived without a suitcase that got lost ast heathrow terminal 5! but when we advised the hotel, they said it was no problem and kept us updated to when it would arrive via voicemail and letter to the door and when the suitcase arrived it was delivered into the room with no issues, great service.

The room was a really nice suite, a seating area with a lcd tv with loads of channels, an office area, a large bedroom with a massive bed, and a fab bathroom with a full size bath with hand shower (great for a quick hair wash) over shower and also a seperate shower cubical - 3 showers! The toilet was also in a seperate room in the bathroom and the toiletries that were supplied included the usual shampoo etc, but also a razor, comb, vanity kit, etc, all great stuff, especially when you have a missing suitcase.

The hotel was centrally located on scotts road right next to orchard road, right in the middle of all the shopping and just next to the train/subway system, perfect, even the night safari bus stopped outside the hotel.

The leisure areas - pool, gym and spa are amazing. its all brand new so very shiny and impressive right now, but the gym is very well equipped with all the usual gear but all the treadmills, bikes etc have satelite tv touchscreens on, really cool. you also get personal service if you need it and a large towel and bottle of water on entry, all free of course.

The pool looks stunning, the sunbeds, which there are loads and its always empty, have great quality beds ready with towels laid out and even tables next to them but call buttons on for when you would like water or food and drink. To be honest, even the toilets are impressive with a spa bath in!

We also requested a late check out which was agreed for free and without any grumbles, and they store luggage safely for when your ready.

To be honest its difficult to find anything negative about this place, there was some construction next door, but they start at 9am and we were on a floor that didnt hear any noise.

I would return to this hotel next time, yes its a bit more pricey than some others, but for me, was worth every penny

Sparkling Hyatt with great facilities. Cuban cigar store in the lobby. Straits Kitchen has been featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations on the Travel Channel. Right in the middle of the Orchard Road Shopping district and across the street from the subway. Walking distance to the Botanical Gardens. A few stops or a medium walk to the Colonial Center of Singapore including the Raffles Hotel. Rooms were updated and had the amenities you find in good Asian hotels that are usually missing from US Hyatt's. Big flat panel TV's. Nice pool. Great place to base a visit to Singapore.

A very good hotel in a great location behind all the shoppings and restaurants on Orchard road....

the service is very good and the hotel restaurants are very good...

the only negative thing i think that the rooms interior needs to be upgraded because it feels dull and for the high standards of singapore i think it should be fully refurbished....

overall: Very good hotel in a great location...i would give this hotel 8/10
