“Center of city location, modern hotel”

Hotel is modern and located in center of Singapore across from Raffles City and Hotel. Unfortunately the majority of hotel staff are rude and not well trained in customer service. Many issues with hotel rooms, first room had dirty sheets and needed to be switched (luckily by a very nice night manager). New room did not have proper draining for sink and was very noisy during rain storm due to window sill being outside of room...

While the foyer may be newly renovated, the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Faulty air conditioning leaves the room like a chiller when you are out, no spare blankets, poor bathroom fittings and no wifi in the older building. This cab be accessed if facing the newer building, But staff make it near impossible to do this.

We stayed 10 nights and were treated like we owned the place. We paid a little extra for the Carlton Club which provides a larger room and access to a fantastic lounge facility 6 am to 11 pm where you can relax and read, watch TV and have hot/cold refreshments with pleasant music in the background. (free internet or wifi too). Evening drinks & canapés are complementary as well as a great buffet breakfast. There were 4 of us and our wives quickly found that "drinks" included the famous Singapore Sling cocktail. They also had an impressive range of complimentary wines from Australia, France and Italy.
The entire experience can only praised. The staff were wonderful all over. One rainy day they ran out of loan umbrellas, so staff at reception offered their own on loan. Now that is remarkable. FYI my glass is always half full and ignore minor glitches. Who cares if a light flickers, or bathroom grout looks a bit tired.

We have visited Singapore 12 times & this is our 10th hotel. We don't stay at 5 star only 4 star hotels. I rate the Carlton at slightly ahead of our favourite the Swissotel Merchant Court. Both have great locations but the CARLTON wins on cost.

The hotel is located in a very central area so that we could go around by walk.
I got a room in the old building. A simple room with no decoration, the bathroom was old and water pressure wasn't strong enough.
On the next morning we wanted to have a breakfast but it was way too expensive - around 30$
There are places 2-3 minutes walk from the hotel where you can have a nice breakfast for around 7$.
The free WiFi, obviously, did not operate on the 7th floor.
On checking out, I've been asked to pay for the internet (with LAN cable) which I did not use. After I raised my voice and complain, the employee just gave up the bill.

I stayed at the Carlton twice in June and August, 2013. My first stay was fabulous since we got a room toward Marina Bay on the 25th floor (I think it was #2514...). The view from the 25th floor was fantastic, and we really enjoy the view. That's why we decided to come back there in August...

We checked in around 5 pm. We specifically requested a room nearby #2514 on the 25th floor for the great view. The receptionist said that the rooms on the 25th floor were completely booked, so she put us into the executive floor, the 11th floor. OK, we got the key and went to the room. We were speechless. It was not an obviously executive floor, and the only difference was the renovated (?) bathroom, with a view of the University... We were not happy with the room at all, so we asked for a room change. Then, we got a room facing the University on the 21st floor, slightly higher than the university building. The view was not what I had wanted to have, so we again requested a room change, and the receptionist guaranteed a room toward Marina Bay on the 24th floor, with almost the same view as the view from the 25th floor, the next day. OK, that will do...

The next day was a nightmare. Even though they guaranteed a room on the 24th floor with the bay view, they told me that there was no room on the 24-25th floors, and they assigned a room on the 23rd floor with pool view although I had specifically asked for a room with the view of Marina Bay. After several times of calling and talking in person at the reception, I finally got a room on the 23rd floor around 3:20 pm and moved into there. I was utterly in shock! The room terribly smelled cigaret although it was a non-smoking room. What's more, the only thing I could see when I opened the door was the wall of the next building! Unbelievable!!! They should have informed me that the room on the 23rd floor had NO view! I specifically asked for a room with the view of Marina Bay on the higher floor, but they did NOT get that AT ALL! Again I had to ask for a room change and eventually move back into the original room on the 21st floor. The receptionists at the Carlton were completely useless, and they wasted my time...

Well, if you are lucky to get a room with a great view on the 25th or 26th floor, your stay would become more enjoyable...

Room Tip: Rooms on the 25 or 26th floor toward Marina Bay have great views.

The hotel is well located and the staff is very friendly. The club rooms are particularly nice
and use of the club lounge is specially useful for business traveller to Singapore.
The hotel is centrally located and distances in Singapore by taxi are not that far
The hotel is also near to many nice restaurants and is a nice 5 star hotel

Room Tip: Choose a club room non smoking as offers the club lounge which is excellent value for money
