“Excellent location - But a bit outdated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the Grand Pacific hotel in Singapore 4 nights early in the first week of July.
The location of the hotel is excellent! 2 metro stations are within easy walking distance. The bus stops in front of the hotel, so a very convenient starting point for lany sightseeing.
The rooms are dated and have a very old fashioned look. There is no Wifi in the rooms so you cannot use the internet on your tablet or smartphone unless you go to the lobby. But unfortunately the lobby has a very limited number of seats to accomodate for those who like to browse the internet.
Breakfast is average for Europeans.

The staff is very friendly and helpfull and they are the hotels best asset!

We stayed here for one night on a stopover. The rooms here are very old and tired. Very clean but for the price we paid $160 SGD not including breakfast I would expect the room to be a bit more modern. As is the case in most cheaper hotels in Singapore, the room reeked of stale cigarette smoke that had penetrated the carpets. Great location though. Better than the hotel 81 chain, although that is not saying much at all. Also, wifi only in lobby. Couldn't believe that. Not sure if I'd stay here again

We have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel twice now and recommend it to any or all Singapore visitors. Anyone travelling abroad with a stopover in Singapore should take advantage of the great deals offered by Singapore airlines and stay here. It's wonderful, it's clean, comfortable, the staff are great and the location is terrific, i love it. A couple of doors down is a massage spa, called institut esthederm, at the Victoria hotel. Mavis and crystal give the best massage in the world. They are incredible. They are very sweet, very humble and the best at what they do. Singapore has become, for me, a destination to return to as often as i can. Brilliant.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade if available, although they are all good

We stayed at this hotel (called the Alson then) in 2004 & 2005, 8 years later the only change is the reception has been moved to the ground floor.
The rooms are very old, tired, dark and dull. The buffet breakfast is very average.
When I said nothing much has changed I mean that literally, even some of the staff are still there, nothing wrong with that but the building, OMG!

A great hotel if you are planning a couple of nights in Singapore. Hotel rooms are not the most modern, however clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff very good and very helpfull, good choice for breakfast and eating areas kept clean and tidy. Drinks at the bar can be a bit expensive, but no more tha anywhere else in Singapore. Good location, close enough to walk to most attractions. Taxi cost around £12 from airport

Stayed here for 3 days and 2 days while my husband was here on a business trip. We thought the location was good - it seemed equally accessible from and to all the locations we usually go to in Singapore: Orchard Road, Haji Lane/Arab Street, Club Street, Marina Bay Sands. We were in a refurbished room so it had wifi (I think one of the other reviewers mentioned there was no wifi - but there is now, thankfully) and we were able to check in early as our flight arrived at noon. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and overall it was good value for money.

We stayed there from June 21 to 23 during the peak periods when the haze was worst at PSI401 but the hotel front desk was kind to provide complimentary disposable paper masks which were really helpful. This hotel is located next to Bugis Junction MRT, so convenient to shop and dine, all within walking distance, a Seven Eleven is right next door. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially the bellmen. We stayed in the Deluxe room @ sgd160++, great value, but don't get persuaded to upgrade to Premier type of rooms for an additionl Sgd60 because it's not worth it. Free Wifi is only available in restaurant and lobby. They do provide free wired internet connection in each room. We used a hotspot device in the room using the existing connection to create our own WiFi network. Overall, we enjoyed our stay due to great location.
