“Didn't love it”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

I stayed here recently with my mum for 4 nights. Although its not the hotels fault the construction noise was constant, loud & annoying.
The rooms are old & rundown and need of renovations. I was surprised that we had king single beds (& not double) when booking a twin stay. We ordered a bucket of ice & were generally shocked when we were told we would be charged for it. Only around $2.50 but I have never been charged for ice at any other hotel I've stayed at.
The "fitness room" was disgusting. It consisted of an exercise bike, a treadmill & small weight set crammed into a tiny room which stunk to high heavens. The equipment was all old.
The buffet breakfast was unappetising.
When checking out the girl didn't know how to use the computer or something & we had to wait 15 minutes or so for someone else to come & assist.

The location however was great, the food court around the corner was handy & had a delicious selection of food.

Room Tip: Ask for a room furtherest from the construction

A rather convenient location. However, mrt construction is in progress right in front of hotel. Entire street block off. Taxi not able to send to lobby and not visible. Difficult to flag a cab. You need to call for a cab. For that, I suggest alternatives until construction is over.

I must add that the hotel went beyond to help guests call for cabs and additional measure in place to insulate noise during the day.

Stayed for 4 nights. Specifically booked in advance for a room away from the construction noise, but never got it till the 3rd night, by then I didn't bother.

The reception staff are really nice. The manager is a bit slow with calculations.

I asked for a cheese sandwich from Tom service and I got it delivered cold 40 minutes later. When I returned it for a fresher one, I got a similar treat. I left the tray outside my room and it was not removed till the following afternoon.

I wouldn't return to stay in this hotel or any of the its competitors on the same street ( Hotel 81, Somerset hotel, strand hotel ...) till 2017, why? Construction is 24/7.

On the positive side, excellent location. Wonderful staff. God service & clean rooms.

Dear Mr Shammasi,

We thank you for taking time to write in which allow us to address the shortcomings. We have taken note of your comments and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

On your request for a room away from the construction noise, the hotel was running full occupancy at that time and all requests are subject to room availability. As far as possible, the hotel tries to accede to customers’ preferences/or requests and special requirements, as indicated in their booking. We have also checked with our Asst F&B Manager about the late delivery of food. The time we received your room service order till the delivery of food took not more than twenty minutes. We understand that we have to re-do your order as you do not wish to cut the sandwich into slices and that took another fifteen minutes for the delivery.

The Authority has restricted the heavy public works till 1930 hours. Disruption is intermittence. We are working closely with the Authority to minimize the inconveniences.

The Management is constantly looking into areas of improvements in the best of our efforts. Assuring you of our best attention and service at all times.

Kind regards,

I have been to Singapore many times, but this was a first for my daughter. The size of the room (small) did not bother us. Even the slow exit of water from the shower and handbasin didn't annoy us. The new MRT construction work outside the hotel was deafening, but we coped.. But really put this hotel way down the list was the "breakfast buffet". For myself I only ever have fruit, cereal/yoghurt. Only 2 types of fruit on offer.
Only chocolate rubbish cereal and rice bubbly things and cardboard flakes. No muesli or healthy cereals. And no yoghurt on the weekend. My daughter was disappointed in the cooked choices.
On our last morning the restaurant was full. We approached 2 tables pushed together with the intention of asking the occupants if we could have one table, as there were only 2 people on the 2 tables (set for 6) when one of the occupants told us in no uncertain terms they were sitting there.
It was a little disappointing that the staff or the F & B manager did not come to our aid and separate the tables for us. Unusual for Singaporeans who are normally the most accommodating people. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone who has never been to Singapore before.
I came home really disappointed. Such a shame as the hotel itself is in a brilliant location. I also thought the hotel was overpriced, compared to others I have stayed in.

Have stayed a few times and has been ok. This time I tried to book direct but no response to an enquiry email.
Book via webjet, a double room for 2 ( cost extra) when checked in was given a twin. Had to complain three time before given room as booked and paid for. I told by reception I only booked twin, even though paperwork showed double. Internet advertise in room but only lobby.
Very noisy due to underground works ( not hotels fault) but no pre warning.
Very poor

Good location. Not so friendly people and not a very good service. We arrived very early in the morning and i got the idea that the receptionist didn't even try to find us a room. We didn't use breakfast there, because nearby are cafe's to sit and relax. But room & cleanliness is ok.

My wife and I were very happy with Bayview Singapore for our short 4-day holiday break even though there were some shortcomings that we are sure could be improved by the Management.

Ultimately, it's the very accessible factor that pleases us most. We hope our following experience would help you consider staying at the hotel in your next stay:
1. The free shuttle to Universal Studios Sentosa is only a 5 minutes' walk away (first meeting point at Summer View Hotel: Exit Bayview hotel and turn right along Bencoolen Street. It's opposite the tall and distinctive Ibis Hotel.

2. The Dhoby Ghaut MRT station is only a 10 minutes' walk away since we had used the very convenient MRT from the Changi airport to the hotel and vice versa. These trips only cost us a very economical S$2.10 one way per pax!

3. The southern tip of Orchard Road, which is the eclectic Singapore shopping hub, is just a 5 short minutes walk from the hotel. On the first day, we had walked until the Orchard Road's Somerset area for shopping before walking back again to the hotel. This, we found, was a bit taxing on our feet. So, on the day after,we elected to take the North-South MRT to the northern tip of Orchard Road (the Orchard Station) and walked southwards towards the Somerset area, after which we took the North-South MRT from the Somerset Station to the Dhoby Ghaut Station before walking back to the hotel. What a relief for our limbs!

4. The Suntech Mall and Convention Centre, is only about 15 minutes walk away.

5. Just a few hundred steps from the hotel is the Bras Basah Circle MRT line that took us direct to Marina Sands Hotel where we witnessed the breathtaking man-made park, the Marina Sands Resort and Casino, and my my, the food court within the resort was at its brim during lunch with hardly any space to sit. We thought the Chicken Rice is nice here.

6. The hotel provides basic breakfast at its small cafe which fill us up with some start-up fuel for our gruelling daily sightseeing/walks. Somehow, we also enjoyed free wi-fi in the room (mighty glad about this!)

7. Next to the hotel is a 24-hr 7-eleven shop and a 24-hr food centre. Though food is at best average at the latter, but how could we complain when food is there to satisfy our late-night hunger pangs. If you want a nicer Chicken Rice around this area during lunch time, go to a popular food centre along Waterloo Street, which is the street behind the hotel.

All in all, Bayview Singapore has met my expectations for its excellent location and comfortable room. And I must also commend the reception team who, to us, is very friendly and helpful to our needs during our 4-night stay; even the small cafe F&B team worked their best to refill food when the occupancy was full during our stay. Remember, it is only a 3-star hotel.

Some comments for improvement:
1. There were some hairs on the bathtub.

2. The showers water flow control was a bit faulty.

3. The air-conditioner temperature controller knob came off and was not working so well which makes the room a little bit warm.

4. The new chair in the room is a tad too heavy and bulky or bulging for us to manoeuvre in the tight room. A lighter and slimmer framed one will serve better, we thought.

Thank you.

Room Tip: We asked for a room away from the lift and on the higher floor. Since the Bencoolen Street stretch i...
