Royal Plaza on Scotts
Ranked #43 of 319 Hotels in Singapore
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 3, 2012

I have spent more than 100 night in this downtown hotel, basically in the heart of the buzzling commercial area of Orchard Road.
The hotel is now being renovated with new bathroom fitting and some very nice working desk area.
The building itself is not new but honestly well maintained with spacious and clean rooms.
Breakfast buffet does offer a mix of asian and western food with a bit of accent for Malaysian and Indonesian tastes. This is no wonder considering that during the weekend most of the guests come right away from this two neighbors countries.

Dear adalbore

Indeed, high value for money!

Royal Plaza on Scotts is just a stone throw away to all the shopping malls, restaurants and even the mrt which makes it very convenient for all our guests. Aside from that, we continuously seek to find ways to improve not just our service, but also our rooms. Additionally, it’s nice to hear that you liked the new bathroom fittings.

We are looking forward to your next visit!

When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff, the manager gave us a tour of our room which was informative.

Location is right by the subway, so you can commute easily. The area that the hotel is located, is basically where all the luxury shopping is.

The room was small but comfy and there was free drinks everyday, can't complain about free things!

Would gladly stay here again if we return to Singapore!

Dear SusanDo1,

Complimentary minibar is one of the highlights of Royal Plaza on Scotts as we want to give our guest the convenience of a refreshing drink in this hot and humid weather of Singapore. Being just a stone throw away from Orchard Road and Orchard MRT, it gives our guests the comfort of enjoying the sights and sounds of Singapore right in the heart of the city.

Not only am I proud of what we offer and our location, most of all, I am very proud to have such dedicated and motivated staff.

We hope to see you again when you come back to Singapore!

Arrived from Phuket in the evening and was upgraded to a 'club room', unfortunately this did not include access to the club lounge however for around 100SGD you can include club access which includes afternoon drinks and canapes plus breakfast (we thought it was worth the money given Singapore prices).
The room was small with a small luggage room/wardrobe off to the side.
Very clean and comfy.
Location was excellent with the underground only steps away and Orchard just round the corner.
All in all would recommend.

Dear rpaters,

Thank you so much for recommending Royal Plaza on Scotts!

At S$90++, you may already upgrade yourself to a club room and enjoy countless club room benefits such as complimentary pressing of your suit, complimentary soft drinks, coffee & tea all day and a lot more! Also, being in a very strategic location gives our guests the convenience that they need. This is especially for those who are only travelling for a few days as our hotel is surrounded by mid to posh shopping malls and great restaurants which Singapore is very known for.

I am more than pleased that you had a wonderful experience at our hotel. We hope to see you again in the near future!

Dear Lisa M,

A succinct and comprehensive review. Thank you.

We at Royal Plaza on Scotts try our very best to reach our guest’s expectations at all times. Royal Plaza on Scotts is one of the very few hotels that serve complimentary minibar. We are also proud of our breakfast buffet spread.

As you mentioned, our pool has plenty of lounges as I have chosen it personally because I want our guests like you to feel very relaxed while enjoying the pool and the sun.

Once again, thank you and we look forward to having you again!

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the Royal Plaza is a very nice hotel. Large enough rooms, very comfortable, complementary water and Nespresso machine. The hotel is located on Scotts Rd, which is literally 2 mins walk from Orchard Rd and all the shopping and eating. Also, there is free Wifi which is a must!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade. We were advised to (and got one) and so did two other couples travelling with us...

After reading the reviews on here we decided to go for a Club Deluxe Room and it turned out to be well worth it for us. Also, we booked a few months in advance so were able to get a very good discounted rate.

We checked in on the 15th floor - the Club Lounge - and were given tea and biscuits while the paperwork was being prepared.

Our room was on the 13th floor and an odd numbered room (you get a view with an odd numbered room). It was a decent size with a king size bed and a view over the city and we could see the swimming pool. Bathroom was quite big with a walk in shower and a separate bath. No noise heard from outside at all, very nice quite room.

If you book a club room you can enjoy complimentary afternoon tea from 3pm til 5pm which consists of cakes, scones and sandwiches and as much tea or coffee as you can drink! Then from 5.30pm til 8pm there are free alcoholic drinks and a small buffet. The staff in the Club Lounge were very attentive and couldn't do enough.

There is free WiFi usuage throughout the hotel.

Breakfast buffet in the Carousel restaurant was very good although we were a little disappointed to see some of the fruit was from a tin and not fresh.

The evening buffet however was absolutely fantastic. So much choice and the food was cooked to perfection and was of a very high quality. You usually expect buffet food to be made with cheap ingredients and not very tasty but this was so not the case here.

The hotel was perfectly situated for us. Taxis were available from outside the hotel and we didn't have to wait longer than a couple of minutes for one. There is also a bus stop right outside too although do not make the mistake we did and use SAEx buses to get to the attractions - terrible service. They were more than 30 mins late and do not always go to the destination they are advertising! Taxis really weren't very expensive so better off using them.

The service we received throughout the hotel was fantastic. We only have one complaint and that was the Heat Lounge was closed on Friday evening due to a private event. Considering this is the only bar in the hotel and it was a Friday night I think this is very poor. We could have gone to the Club Lounge but they didn't serve the drinks we wanted and of course if you weren't staying in a Club room then this wouldn't be an option for you.

We spent a couple of hours one morning by the pool which was quite a small area but very private. The pool was perfectly fine for a nice swim and towels were provided. The sun loungers were very comfortable.

We both had a wonderful trip and would definitely stay at this hotel again if we come back to Singapore.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Club Room for complimentary afternoon tea and evening cocktails and ask for an odd numb...

Dear Scrasey2

Thank you for a fabulous review, your compliments is our best advertisement! We have believed in this phenomenon all this while, and your review has verified it once again.

We are glad that you had experienced our exemplary services at the Royal Club lounge. The club room comes with daily buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. Being located in the down town, we are close to all the happenings. However, due to the urban density, very few of our rooms have a view. I am glad that you got one, which has a pool view.

We have noted your mention on the tin fruits, and will see how we can improve there. We are happy to read that you did dine at Carousel for dinner and loved the extensive international buffet. We are honoured to share with you that, Carousel has been voted as the best buffet restaurant from past three (3) consecutive years.

Regarding the Heat ultralounge bar, please accept our sincere apologies. This was a rare occasion when bar was closed for a private function. Otherwise our bar is opened for in-house guests and city guests daily.

Once again, thank you for a detailed review. We are sure that other travellers will benefit from your advice. And, we will be looking forward to see you again in Royal Plaza on Scotts, Singapore.

This was my third stay at Royal Plaza.

Arriving by taxi, bags are whisked away at kerbside while we check in, and we're given a run down of everything we need to know about the hotel and our stay (note, on a previous visit, we arrived at peak time and didn't get quite this personalised service).

We stayed in a Club Deluxe room with no view (well, a view of a car park) but that's expected as you're in the middle of the city.

The Club Deluxe room provides you free mini-bar (a selection of soft drinks, some Oreos, a few bottles of water, and two Tiger beers) which is refreshed each day, Nespresso machine, good desk, king size bed, decent sized bathroom with great shower and separate bath, great toiletries, free wi-fi (I've not experienced problems with this, as others seem to have), access to the Royal Club lounge for afternoon tea and cocktail hour plus coffee/tea/soft drinks all day, plus breakfast included at either the main buffet or in the club lounge. As you'll also expect, there's extensive tv channels plus daily newspaper delivered. Like a lot of hotels, there's not sufficient milk for multiple cups of coffee, however we were on the same level as the club lounge so a cup of coffee was only just down the hall. Getting a club room also gives a free pressing of a suit during your stay - this trip was for pleasure so I didn't have any suits to pres :-)

The 'standard' pillows are quite soft, but there's a hard pillow in the cupboard, and other options available by calling reception (we didn't avail ourselves of this service, so can't comment how good the other ones are).

Breakfast spread is probably one of the best I've come across - from the great pastries, a wide variety of hot dishes from different cultures (indian, asian, western), to eggs cooked to order.

All staff are helpful and efficient, and nothing seems too difficult.

The pool, sauna and gym are all well equipped. There's a nice cafe area near the pool too.

The hotel is just off Orchard Road - there's an MRT very close so transport is not a problem. You can get the MRT to just about everywhere you'd want to go, and the hop-on/hop-off buses all stop nearby. You don't need to catch a taxi from/to the airport - just use the MRT. If you do need to catch taxis from here, I suggest booking beforehand rather than waiting in the queue - this is especially important from 7.30am till about 9.30am weekdays.

If you don't like shopping, or prefer a room with a view, you'd probably do better down towards Marina Bay, but otherwise, I think Royal Plaza is a fantastic hotel (I've stayed in lots of hotels in Singapore, usually for work).

Room Tip: I think even numbered rooms face the car park opposite - no idea what the view is from odd numbered...
