The personalised service upon arrival was excellent. We were late to check in and missed the happy hour canapés and cocktails. We checked out at 12 the following day and were told we could stay at the hotel (our flight was at 11PM) and make use of the facilities (i.e. pool, health club) and could have our free cocktails as well. Our room was amazing and it was a wonderful experience all round. While it was a very expensive stop over we would definitely do it again.

Well positioned modern and with really excellent rooms
A very classy hotel which did everything we could reasonably have asked for
Not cheap but in this case worth the money but be aware it is near Orchard road rather than the commercial centre

shangri la garden wing is a delight for travelers need to feel the earth beneath their feet, comfort in the extreme, cocktails sublime and Christmas decorations to delight! there can be few places on earth as genteel as this hotel in Singapore!

Stayed for a couple of days on business travel in Dec 2013.

After a seven hour delay the airport pickup was still available at 04:15am and delivered me to the hotel. The front desk was extremely nice and friendly given the time of arrival and my room still available. Hotel lobby is impressive and was nicely decorated for X-Mas.

From the good impression on the day of the arrival my impression went down with every hour. The rooms are noisy to the corridor and you do hear neighbours. The cleaning staff ringed multiple times despite my Privacy sign while I was trying to catch some sleep back.

The restaurants and the lobby cafe have very unobservant staff. It took me 20 mins of waiting time to ask for my bill and I would loved to have another Espresso while waiting - but nobody responded to my attempts to become visible. Restaurant service is very slow, drinks are not refilled even after 10 minutes, the level of offered help and service just poor for a 5-star hotel.
Breakfast menu is huge, including long walks while your food gets colder and colder, omelets were very unloving, the noise level very impressive so it's difficult to ask. The breakfast restaurant furniture is dirty, stained, Espresso mugs were dirty, sometimes we did not had any napkins. This would be adequate for a cheap 3-star restaurant.

Rooms have a nice, fully automated control system to setup lights, curtains and information lights for the staff on the corridor. However the LCD is hard to read and to interpret and require some time of playing around.

The bed however was excellent. Very hard mattress, lovely very fine linen and a large selection on pillows. Very good and I had a very very good sleep.

Food in the Japanese restaurant is very good (once you get it), the Sushi selection wide and interesting. Fortunately the chief avoids to top up with Mayonnaise for Sushi and let the real taste come through. European food was good.

All restaurants do not have enough capacity for guests to just walk by and require reservation. The Chinese restaurant was booked out for 2 hrs for lunch and I had to find something different.

At the end of my trip my expectations have normalised and I will most likely search for alternatives - with more observant staff and better food selection.

The location of the hotel was superb. The initial reception was very respectful and courteous. The room service, the food and the ambience were nice. The room had been structured beautifully to utilise the space appropriately with all the amenities to suite the guests. The food at the restaurant was delicious with lot of varieties from different regions.
