This is the second time my family and I have stayed at the Shangri-La Valley Wing hotel in Singapore. It is a superb place to stay which is out of this world. Everyone at the hotel get out of their way to make you feel welcome and give 101% service. The hotel is also ideally located to the main shopping area in Singapore which is Orchard Road and very close to Orchard MRT.

We had decided to take our 16yo daughter on a trip to place she had been as a kid during our assignment in Asia. At the same time it was our 20th wedding anniversary so decided to surprise the family by booking in the renovated Garden wing the Jaccuzi One bedroom Suite.
Family indeed was ecstatic when entering the room, basically two large rooms. But what got them going was the 130m2 terrace with a barbecue/dining area, a sitting area, (actually 3 of them) and of course an elevate platform with a nice round jacuzzi.
This room is really unique in Sing. At least on the mainland. What a pleasure everyday to come back and enjoy room service and dine outdoor and then sit in the jaccuzi before going to sleep.
Bathroom is excellent, great technology (a bit Peninsula inspired albeit to TV above the bathtub), japanese toilet (great but prepare some time to learn how to use it).
Breakfast the the waterfall café was great awa from the cantine style modern restaurant in teh other wing. Service was very friendly. The only negative was that as this is a new room with new features (bbq, jaccuzzi) it seems housekeeping did not clean the terrace every day. And since it was raining quite a bit the place was very wet. After a short email to management this got rectified and we then got the terrace cleaned every morning and before dinner if we ate outside. Finally on checking out I mentioned that it would be great if they would have a bbq menu as an in room dining option they said they had but again someone forgot to put it in the room (we were there 6 days). Nothing dramatic but again at this price one would expect a bit more concentrated approach. All-in-all a great trip, would recommend this hotel which feels like a small resort.
Worth to mention: we did a trip to Sentosa, you can use the Shangrila Resort facilities there by showing your room card. Even better you can sign your drinks at the pool on your room at the other hotel.

Beautiful stylish hotel, lobby area is busy but very relaxing , with people sat having afternoon tea or sipping champagne. The hotel concierge Jonny is fantastic advising us on restaurants and places to go . Only short walk away from Orchard Road the shopping area.

My wife and I spent a few weeks in Singapore recently. Despite all the buzz around Howlong Bay and Sentosa we decided to stay at the old Shangri La which is situated near Tanglin Rd. 30 years ago this was rated consistently as the best hotel in the world. It still could be. Whilst there are newer and flashier hotels in Singapore the old Shangri La still has great rooms, better service, a beautiful pool and first class restaurants. The tariff there is 1/2 of the newer places but despite it being well away from the newly developed areas Singapore taxis are the cleanest and cheapest in the world so its location doesn't matter.. From the hotel to Howlong Bay about $S8.00. Bargain! The staff are superb.

Such a calm ambience but not lacking atmosphere. We were welcomed at all times with the offer of complimentary drinks and snacks ( even bubble drinks as one servers liked to call champagne). Rooms traditionally furnished to a high luxurious standard and as expected, lighting, sockets etc all well placed. Breakfast choices excellent as was the afternoon tea and canapés. Eating and drinking in top establishments in Singapore is expensive, which makes the extra charged for the Valley Wing very good value. Location just around the corner from Orchard Road, taxis always available plus the main hotel has a shuttle to central areas throughout the day.

We stay at the ShangriLa for a week or more every time we return to Singapore which is once a year. This time we were in the Tower Wing which is not as nice as the Garden Wing but what a view! We were on the 15th floor. The room was smaller than those at the Garden Wing but still large enough to fit a rollaway cot. We didn't eat at The Line this time but had gorgeous meals at Nadaman. Cocktails at sunset at Blu was so good we kept going back. Any of the Blu signature cocktails are excellent but particularly recommend the Passionfruit sour and the Orange-cardamon carpriahna. We tried their tapas - the calamari and potata bravas were good, the pork belly was too tough and salty. The Rose verandah tea buffet (which starts at 12.30) offers a great selection of Asian food and the service there was the best in all the restaurants we tried (Blu, Lobby Court, Waterfall Cafe and Nadaman). I have to mention the service at the gift shop. We ran out of one particular item which the hotel did not stock and the lady at the gift shop actually gave us her own item. She was marvellous and we say a huge thank you to her. My only gripe was the meagre $11.75 cup of coffee at the poolside. For that price, they could have given me at least a pot. I understand charging that amount at the Lobby Court as there was a jazz trio performing but to charge that for one small cup of coffee by the pool......

I stayed at Shangri-La, Singapore (Orange Grove location) for 4 nights in August 2013. Upon check-in the staff were very helpful and courteous. Even provided coupons for additional discount from the breakfast rate. My room on the 14th floor had exceptional view. The AC kept the room nice and cool at all times.
I could tell that the hotel isn't very new, but overall everything was in pretty good condition - very nice and clean.
The bed and the pillows were very comfortable.
TV with 30+ channels (local and international news, sports, 1-2 movie channels, 5-10 Chinese channels).
In-room safe was included (not that I needed it).

The hotel offers a shuttle to downtown and some shopping centers - make sure to ask the front desk about the schedule. Orchard Rd. is within walking distance (5-10 min walk) with lots of shipping and dining options. Right on the corner with Orchard Rd. is Black Angus and some Pizza place (for those of you, who prefer to stick with the Western food).
As far as dining is concerned - the hotel offers several restaurants, but I only tried "The Line" on the ground floor (1 level below the reception - use the escalators to get down there or press "1" in the elevator). In my opinion the restaurant was overpriced, but then again - Singapore is a very expensive place. For lunch and dinner "The Line" offers a choice of meals from the menu or a flat fee for a buffet-type dining. A single dish + one beer costs ~ S$75. Dinner Buffett + one beer was ~S$115.
There is a wonderful pool outside, so make sure to bring a swimming suit.

Overall - great experience, courteous staff, good location.
