“Choose the Valley Wing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We spent four nights in the Valley Wing of the Shangri-La just prior to Chinese New Year. The Valley Wing is a "hotel within the hotel" boasting service and attention to detail that places it head and shoulders above the rest of the hotel. An example of this was staff remembering my son's dietary issues and ensuring that these were accounted for not only at breakfast but in the snacks provided as part of high tea. All this was done without fuss and without having to ask. This was particularly remarkable given the hotel was probably at its busiest with the onset of the CNY holidays.

The rooms are spacious and almost suite like. Even with a roll away bed there was plenty of room for two adults and a 9 yo to relax in comfort.

Breakfast in the Valley Wing was a wonderful experience with waiter service and an amazing range of food and beverage selections. Perhaps not as wide as the selection at other parts of the Hotel but our family found more than enough to satisfy them.

In contrast we also dined in the Line Restaurant. While the food was fantastic in quality and amazing in variety it was filled to bursting point with large groups. It was absolute bedlam and not an altogether pleasing experience.

The pool also got a good workout. It was huge and plenty deep enough.

All in all a wonderful stay. We look forward to returning some day.

Room Tip: Choose the Valley wing if you can. It is amazing. Get a room overlooking the pool.

It is my second stay in the sl singapore. I can really recommend it. The hotel is great. I have a horizon club room. I love to use the facilities of the horizon club. The pool in the garden is huge and very good to swim. The breakfast buffet in the line is the best breakfast in the world.

Stayed here with family for four nights in the garden wing. having stayed at the mandarin oriental and grand Hyatt previously, we decided to stay at shangrila this time based on the expectation that it might deliver more of an urban resort feel, whilst still being close to orchard rd. On that front It was great. Staying in the garden wing, it does certainly have a bit of a resort vibe and the pool is Big and relaxing with great kids pools and fountains. Breakfast at waterfall cafe is also very enjoyable. The main line restaurant I believe to have to have great breakfast, but it's just too manic vs what you get a waterfall so we didn't have breakfast there. The service is mixed and the rooms whilst nice, given such recent renovations, I was surprised to find some of the design elements a bit old fashioned. Overall a nice stay, and would stay here again when spending time by the pool is a priority.

Room Tip: Stay in the garden wing

My husband and I stayed at the Shangri-La for 3 nights & this was a fantastic start to our holiday. Due to an early flight we arrived at the hotel around 7am, & were delighted to find out our room was ready & we could check in. Having seen our lovely room we then went to breakfast and were overwhelmed by the amount of great food on offer. We thoroughly enjoyed trying lots of different things during our stay. The room itself is very comfortable, clean & spacious & we had a nice view of the city. We ate at the restaurant by the pool one evening & loved both the food & setting. Upon check out the staff very kindly acknowledged that it was my husbands birthday and handed him some chocolates & a card, this was a lovely touch & something we will not forget. All in all our stay at the Shangri-La hotel was fantastic and we would highly recommend it.

A top hotel in a nice location. All the staff are helpful, polite and friendly. The hotel has a variety of restaurants to suit all.The new Waterfall Cafe is a nice quiet intimate restaurant with very good food and service and nice option as the Line restaurant does get very busy and can be noisy. The Rose Veranda serves an excellent high tea and is very popular so you need to book. The business centre is superb.Stayed in a garden wing room with a balcoiny which was very good. The only fault was the bed matress was very hard and uncomfortable.Overall though a verey good stay at this Top Hotel.

Room Tip: Garden View Room is certainly on a quiet side of the hotel.

Room is quite old and depreciated in Town Wing. There is a strange glass partition at the entrance to separate the room. I also don't like the lighting, the room is quite dark at night.

The location of the hotel is embarrassed, too far to walk to Orchard but too short to take taxi. During my stay, I also found very difficult to get taxi and always long queue waiting in the morning.

Choice in breakfast is ok, but during my stay, it is very busy and not a very comfortable breakfast place.

Apart from I was assigned to a room further outside the exit at room# XX23. The service is good and helpful, they helped me to change the room quick.

I am not sure the quality of Valley Wing and Garden Wing, but for business travel, I won't choose Town Wing for my next stay in Singapore.

Room Tip: Don't choose Room No. XX23. Always call taxi in the morning, it is not a convenient location.

Stayed at Shangri La in January with two children (ages 10 and 3). Staff were outstanding and even remembered our children's names. Always keen to assist in anyway to make our stay extremely enjoyable. Excellent facilities with great pool, gym and tennis courts. The Buffet breakfast is one of the best I have ever experienced. Hotel is relatively empty during the day as a lot of business people stay here. If you are in Singapore and want to stay relatively close to Orchard Rd than highly recommend this hotel.
