“Good Service, Busy Hotel”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Had stayed in a number of common chain hotels, and I must say that the two selling points of this hotel are hard to beat.

1) Fantastic View of the Singapore Skyline (Dont ask me whether Marina Bay Sands or The Stamford is better because clearly MBS made the view from this hotel even better)
2) Very convenient location with a shopping mall and train station below

Other worthy points:
1) Breakfast is very good like most 5 star hotels.
2) Service staff at the reception, restaurant and club level is good.
3) The furnishing and rooms are what you would expect from a normal 5 star hotel, comfortable & cozy, although getting slightly old compared to the newer hotels and renovations. Bear in mind this hotel has been here for a long time and it wont do justice to rate them against a new hotel.
4) Hotel can get really busy especially check-ins, but the staff on duty always tries to manage the queues and update you when the rooms are ready.

I have stayed at this property a few times over the last 2 years. I like the location a lot and the staff is always very friendly. The rooms are nice, if slightly worn. The hotel is connected to the Raffles City Mall offering a ton of dining options.

My only complaint - the Internet charges! S$28 per day, per device to use a slow internet connection. Horrible. Many of the decent hotels in Singapore offer cheaper or free wireless - or at least allow you to use multiple devices. This would prevent me from staying in the future.

I am a Singaporean and I was offered a free 5 day stay at Swissotel by a friend who couldn't make it. I checked in late at night and informed the front-desk that my wife will join me the next day for our 10 years wedding anniversary.

My solo friend had booked a Classic Harbour View Room. So I was told by front-desk that my bed would be changed to a King-size bed and moved to a higher floor (52th floor). The view is fantastic as you can see Marina Bay Sands, Marina Bay Financial Centre, Esplande and others from the balcony.

Although i would expect an upgrade to a suite and a complimentary meal for our celebration or maybe a bottle of wine, or some chocolates, or some thing.... (no, there is nothing). What i get is a note informing me that they had skipped my room for cleaning at a certain time, daily without fail. But, My "privacy" sign is displayed at the door daily. Why do they waste paper and put a note daily when the "privacy" sign is displayed? The front-desk could have informed the house-keeping from day one that we are celebrating our anniversary.

The hotel had been here for a long time and i had stayed at this hotel after year 2000 (I think it was called Westin Stamford at that time). Basically, the room amenities are not satisfactory. They could have checked before offering to the guests. Some of the problems i encountered are:

- the TV remote is not sensitive, you have to press a few times before it change channel;
- the valve in the wash basin blocked the water from draining properly;
- the safe deposit are not working properly, probably due to low battery;
- there is a leak when flushing the toilet bowl;
- for free internet, you have to re-login every day after 12 am although i was told that it was not necessary when using the same device;
- newspaper not delivered on the second day.
- no outdoor slipper provided, so i have to wear bed-room slippers to the pools. i have to throw away the wet slippers. There is no replacement after that.

The service is not as good as i had expected. Although they are productive and efficient, it does not provide you the satisfaction (heartfelt service) of a 5 star hotel. Probably there are more foreign staff and trainees, (i was served by foreign staff), or maybe i am a local and they assumed that i know everything. For example, I was not being introduced to the facilities of the hotel and the location of the concierge service or the gym and spa and also not informed on the operating hour of these facilities.

- After check-out, they issued two cards for hospitality stay at 8th floor. Both of my cards were not working, so i have to bring our luggage down to the front-desk for the exchange. A simple apology or offered to bring my luggage to the room would be nice for the inconvenience caused.

- Also at check-out, i was not asked whether i need the invoice. When i asked the staff, she said it was pre-paid so no invoice is necessary. I was also not bidded farewell and thanked for my stay at departure, or even asked how was my stay during the 5 days. Instead I was asked whether i had consumed anything in the fridge and cleared my credit-card deposit.

I would say they asked me standard question and provide standard answer during check-out, but they do not ask me question anticipating my needs, such as whether i need a cab, or storage for luggage. I have to ask to get my answer.

Apart from this average service, you can't deny that it is one of the hotel with best location in Singapore. Whether you are tourists on business or leisure, you can shop at Raffles City (connected to the hotel), City Link (connected), Suntec City, Funan Centre (IT product), Marina Centre, Bugis or Bugis+ etc, all within 5 - 10 mins walking distance. You can even go to Orchard Road for Shopping via subway (City Hall Station below Raffles City) or bus. For dinning, you can eat at the restaurants located at the hotel or at Raffles City, City Link, Suntec City etc. Almost all shopping centres have food centre or restaurants. There are also hotel restaurants nearby as there are more than 5 5-star hotels within this area.

It is also near to Sentosa, Chinatown, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay and accessible by bus or cab, or subway (MRT).

Note -
- For tourists who wants to drive and park at this hotel, there is no complimentary parking.
- For room without breakfast, you can eat at Macdonald's (24hrs) or Starbuck just outside the hotel or at City Link, or nearby coffee shop.

I stayed in a harbour view room on the 63rd floor over a long weekend. The room was spacious, with a luxuriously comfortable bed. The view was fantastic, overlooking the Marina Bay and Singapore Flyer. The City Hall MRT station is just downstairs, and there is also an adjoining mall which is very convenient. The Starbucks and McDonalds outside the station open till late (24 hours?). Many attractions are only a short walk away and public transports in Singapore are cheap, efficient and reliable.

The lobby was very busy as there were tours as well as airline crews staying at the hotel. Hence the check in and check out took a while. And expected queues (and people jumping queues) for lifts. There was a always a line for taxis outside the hotel but hotel guests were given priority. The staff and doorman were very attentive, friendly and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: harbour view room on higher floors

Just stayed for 1 night. Very impressed by the magnificent view. It's a high-rise hotel in front of a park. Centrally located w/ malls nearby.

Very classy restaurants within.

Room is comfortable & functional, but not the very modern luxury.

We have stayed at this hotel approx 24 times because of the location and height of the hotel each room above 45th floor it is a breath taking view day or night. I have many photo's from previous stays and it has and still is changing.
