“Excellent hotel for the busy traveler!”
Reviewed August 25, 2011

Stayed at the DELUXE room of the hotel and it all met our expectations. Check-in was hassle-free as the receptionist was highly trained and new exactly what she was discussing. The room was just right for two having all the facilities that are needed to make the stay comfortable. The room was spacious enough to move around in. the view from the room was good. I had a balcony which allowed me to step outside for fresh air. My only comment is that there was no blowdryer which was really surprising for a 4-5 star hotel. At any rate, I was happy with the service and facility. The location of the hotel is convenient to shoppers as it is right beside (access from Hotel) the Raffles Shopping Center and a few minutes walk to Marina Square (mall). Also, its almost across RAFFLES Hotel which is frequently visited by most tourists. This hotel is also very near the MRT station which can bring you to several parts of Singapore. For food lovers, Chijmes - plaza-like bldg that houses restaurants serving various cuisines, is walking distance from the hotel. Its also a 5-dollar (singapore) ride to the Marina Bay area where there are a lot of tourist spots to choose from. An easy MRT ride to Orchard is easily accessible as well. It's not a bad deal for the price paid.

Room Tip: For your last minute shopping, you can do it at the Raffles Shopping Center right beside the hotel...

We stayed here for 5 nights as a short getaway. The hotel is very very busy and huge. I noticed a lot of flight attendants staying there. We had a room on the 20th floor which was nice but I was really worried about the small balcony that had only a waist Height rail to stop you plummeting 20 stories. There was no chairs or anything on the balcony. I would not stay here with small children. For a business traveller this would be a good place to stay. The pool was nice but very shaded and 'inner city' I didnt swim there. Laundry was ridiculously expensive and we had to giggle at the $10AUD bottle of water in our room. It is close enough to the subway and the quay area. Very nice but would not stay here again. Staff were friendly.

I've stayed at this hotel many times whilst working in the airline industry. We chose this hotel due to its great location and fantastic views from the high floors. We weren't disappointed by either of these. We booked a 'Grand' room which is a large corner room with 2 balconies and panoramic views from the 40th floor however....the decor has not changed since I stayed there in the early 90's, its not shabby just very dated. Some rooms must have been renovated as the photos on the hotel website do not show this older style room. The other negatives were: the mattress was extremely hard and the shower which is over the bath did not drain sufficiently so that by the time you were half way through a shower you were standing in about 20cm of water. The water in the shower took about 15 minutes to heat up in the morning so we just had to let it run before we got in. These bathroom problems were around years ago when I stayed here. The check-in area is quite small for such a large hotel and check-in/out can take some time. The staff however were friendly and helpful so if its location and view's you want then I suggest asking for a renovated room...hopefully the bathroom problems have been sorted out in them.

Room Tip: Request a high floor renovated room

Our stay at Swissotel was a pleasant one. The staff was friendly and yes the place is forever bustling with people. What we liked the most was the easy assess to the mall, supermarket, Starbucks , MC Donald's etc. It's a convenient place to stay and get everything under one roof.
The rooms are spacious but the ambiance is not exactly 5 star. The housekeeping services were good as they see to it that rooms are always tidy and clean. The pool and spa facilities are good. My children enjoyed their time in the pool cos they made lots of friends there.
The view from our room was excellent. we were at the 61 st floor, the balcony was spacious and safe for children to stand. Loved the late night talks with my kids on the balcony watching the pretty night lights of Singapore.
Especially the breakfast spread is excellent, good variety and friendly staff who would always see to it that we were well seated , comfortable and enjoyed the food.
Over all a fine hotel to stay with family. We would definitely recommend the place to others.

Stayed at the Stamford for 2nights. Having read the previous comments I was already alerted to potentially not getting the best room. When I arrived I was upgraded to a Junior suite however the room is in urgent need of a refurbishment. The furniture and carpet are very old and there is virtually no sign of being a 5 star hotel in Singapore; there is no charm or ‘soul’ in the room. Although you I was not staying in the room often I wish to return to a comfortable environment at the end of the day.
The size for a Junior Suite is acceptable however considering the old décor I would have preferred a smaller room but refurbished.
Bathroom is extremely small and the shower has no hand held shower head.
Wifi is not available in the room and the wired connection is chargeable.
Minibar was not refilled during my entire stay, in fact when I arrived I found half a bottle of whiskey in it.
View is great and with two balconies it offer great views on major landmarks.
Check in was very impersonalized and slow. I had to queue for about 5 minutes until it was my turn. Early check in was requested and granted. Thank you.
Lobby is extremely busy and the tour busses and massive amount of people do not make you feel welcome.
All in all a good hotel to stay in if you are on business and expect a four star service and accommodation.
The worst experience however was Room Service. The quality of food is very poor and the presentation is not appealing at all and for that the value is not there. I did not bother to go to one of the many restaurants. For a single business traveler Room Service is very important; a bite at the end of the day while doing some more work until late night from the room does not allow many people to go out and therefore Room Service becomes the only option. I am afraid The Stamford failed on that important detail.
Summary, an acceptable stay however I will most likely not return due to little details which were not delivered and therefore are pretty annoying if your are traveling on business.

I stayed at the Swissotel Stamford for over two weeks in July and August 2011. The property is fairly nice with decent sized rooms. The pool is nice and it's well located for the MRT and the shopping mall.

Unfortunately staying there for two weeks is too long given the lack of service and amenities for long term bookings. Oddly the rooms don't have very much storage space so many clothes had to stay in luggage.

The hotel is extremely large and so it seems to always be busy and difficult to get service. There doesn't seem to be a direct way to get a hold of the concierge to get advice or service and the telephone never gets picked up when calling the operator.

The two biggest issues I had were the ridiculous prices for internet service ($180 per week) and they still use the old card in door system which doesn't work. So every day I had to stand on line for 15 minutes to get a card replaced and be told I carried the card in the wrong place (obviously, blame the guests!). Top tip to avoid the lines are to go to the crew desks in the back corner where there are loads of service personnel and limited customers!

I hope to not have to go back. Would rather try other hotels in Singapore although the views from Equinox are nice.

Nice hotel, attentive and helpful staff. Conveniently located to Orchard Road and connected to the Raffles City Shopping Centre and the Raffles City Convenient Centre, reasonably convenient. The hotel has free mini-bar, slippers, bathrobe, iron. Room has shower (not bath), nice bathroom furnishings, flat screen TV, comfortable and huge bed, enough light at the desk. Room is clean and in good condition with step-out balconies with city view. Breakfast buffet is very good with many choices. Exterior building is not impressive looking but the lobby is very.
