“Simply superb!”
Reviewed December 25, 2006

I've stayed in this hotel twice in December and it was an absolute pleasure.

A fairly large hotel, but with a personalized touch to it. The service throughout the hotel in all the different areas was excellent. All the staff are very accommodating as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber.

The rooms are attended to twice a day with fresh fruits being brought in each time.

We were upgraded to a Premier Harbour room. The views from the room...Wow! The view at night is especially spectacular. The room size is very good, with a small office area provided.

Room facilities also excellent as expected, with all the usual suspects being in the room. The room lighting controls are a neat touch, as well as a privacy button which is respected by the hotel staff. There was also a DVD player in the room, which was useful.

The bathroom is also superb, with a very modern shower system. It is separated from the room with a glass panel, so one can see straight out of the bathroom onto the amazing views from the room. Of course if privacy is required, then there are blinds on the bathroom side of the glass panel.
This glass panel enlarges the size of the room and gives the room a nice feel.

The business centre is very well equipped and once again, excellent service is provided. The Internet access at the business centre is very expensive compared to any local Internet cafe. However when I used it for less than 10 minutes to check my email, they didn't charge the costs to my room.

To sum up, an amazing hotel from the moment you walk in to the reception area. Highly recommended and one of the best 5* hotels I've stayed in to date!

We stayed here for three nights on a stopover on our way to Australia.
The Oriental is definitely one of the best hotels I ve ever stayed at. The service is excellent and the staff very friendly. The hotel is renovated in an elegant modern style. We were upgraded to a harbour view room. The view from the 17th floor was amazing.
A wonderful breakfast buffet was included. There is so much to choose from. We have never seen such a big choise for breakfast at any hotel where we have stayed before anywhere in the world.
I definitely recommend this hotel, you wont be disappointed if you stay here.

It's a fantastic hotel,it's a business hotel with also very good leisure facilities. restaurants are great. Try Mortons Steakhouse, probably best steakhouse in Singapore. We had an executive suite which was great and very spacy. Seperate living area and a seperate bedroom. Breakfast is average to 5star standards in Asia. Conviently located next door to shopping mall Marina square which flows over into Suntec City.
Hotel is very close to Orchard Rd. I can recommend this hotel to everyone who comes to Singapore.

Mandarin Oriental Service from start to finish. Booked the club floor - great room, great amenities. Loved the club - great place for a cocktail. Had a lovely dinner in the Japanese restaurant and also at Morton's. Spa experience was wonderful as well. Absolutely no complaints.

Just returned from Singapore and 2 nights at the Oriental. This is a wonderful hotel. The room was beautiful, large, and luxurious. The view was incredible (harbour view, club room). I ate at the Chinese restaurant twice and loved it both times. The staff was friendly, polite and professional. The club has a very nice breakfast and excellent cocktail food.
I would recommend this hotel to any one and would stay here again if I am lucky enough to get back to Singapore.

My wife and I stopped here for five nights (end of November/early December) and the experience was wonderful. We took the Club Room option which was well worth the money. We were checked in in the room and were greeted with fresh flowers, fruit and a bottle of wine - fantastic. We have never stayed at a hotel with so many curteous staff available to do your bidding, nothing was too much trouble

We tried the Club Room for breakfast on the first morning and it was very nice but the choice was limited. We then switched to the "Melt" Cafe (at no extra cost) which was little less than astounding, such an amazing choice of food and all well cooked and presented. Again the staff were efficient and attentive.

We only managed Afternoon Tea in the Club Room once and it was very nice but limited to small cakes and tea/soft drinks etc. Unfortunately we never made it for coctails and canapes in the evening.

We would advise paying the extra for the Club perks which in our case was good because it meant we didn't have to check out until 8pm which was useful since our flight was at midnight.

This may or not be of interest but when we arrived at Changi Airport from the UK we looked at using the Shuttle Taxi to the hotel. The normal price is S$7 per person but we were told that we would have to wait up to an hour for a shuttle. They then tried to persuade us to take a shuttle for just the two of us at a cost of S$35 which they could provide immediately - what a con! We eventually got a taxi which cost S$15. The moral of the story is don't even think about getting the Shuttle just get a taxi - it's cheaper and quicker.

In summary, if we go to Singapore again we will most definitely stay at the Oriental and wil be advising family and friends to do so as well.

Had to stay there last night -at the airline's expense- 'cause my flight had been canceled. It was a genuine consolation!

Stunning, well appointed and spacious room (although my views were not in the best direction), with hi fi TV system, huge window and own discreet terrace. Large marble bathroom, with quality towels, bath robe, slippers etc (those details are how I discern what is for me a great vs a just good hotel).

Al;though there are a number of different restaurants, I ended up having both breakfast and lunch at "The Cafe" on the 4th floor. I had the best Nasi Goreng ever! Splendid presentation, ingredients and taste! That would be my lunch suggestion. Although I suspect many guests will also be amazed by the Asian/contemporary decor.

Not unpredictably for such standard hotel, all the (many) staff I encountered were most kind and attentive, many really making efforts to go the extra mile to satisfy the customer.

Good 25m swimming pool (with good service, big towels, complimentary water, refreshing sun spray, sun creams if you don't have yours etc), close to a small but well equipped fitness room (all Technogym machines).

Caters wonderfully for anybody, just make sure you're OK with the location (not quite central to the main shopping areas, although e.g. Suntec City mall is at easy walking distance).
It's the best of the four hotels I've tried so far in Singapore (others being, in my ranking order, Meritus Mandarin, Marriott, and Hilton).

  • Liked — The decor of room and common areas
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — If you like Indonesian/Malaysian food try the amazing Nasi Goreng at The Cafe
