“Great hotel and even better staff. Loved it!”
Reviewed December 3, 2011

The hotel is well located near the marina. Rooms are reasonably sized, clean with great views of the city and marina. There are several restaurants in the hotel, all quite expensive but also very nice. Service is impeccable. You might be able to find something less pricey but this is certainly a great hotel.

Our family of four including two children aged 7 and 3 stayed for four nights. There are some great things about the hotel. Firstly the pool area was fantastic, brilliant and friendly service and a lovely main pool as well as a great toddler pool complete with cabanas - all very good.

The service was very good with staff remembering names and making us feel welcome. This was against the backdrop of a highly corporate feel to the hotel with functional but impersonal architecture - it's basically a big and ugly tower block but the children loved the dramatic lifts.

The real whammy was the cost of extras. Food costs are exorbitant at the MO. $12 SGD for a child's glass of milk and $26 for a pizza is 'taking the biscuit' and there was no children's menu.

Also our rooms were ready late despite us sitting by the pool in the rain waiting and our bags took a further hour to arrive and they still managed to mislay some of them.

A good hotel if you have more money than sense. We stayed a night at Raffles and it was cheaper, more personal, better service and had much better breakfasts... And it's a million times more stylish.

All that you would expect from the Mandarin Oriental, great service and very comfortable rooms. Request a bay view, it is really nice!

The pool is a lovely way to relax on a Sunday afternoon after the Sunday brunch buffet in MELT, great food a must try!

Room Tip: Bay view rooms offer a great view over Marina Bay Sands and the bay

I visited Singapore as my last stop off during my honeymoon. The hotel had picked us up with a friendly driver who was talking to us about the history of Singapore which was a very nice touch. As we landed at 11.30pm the hotel were perfect in the terms of checking in. A lady greeted us at the main doors and rather than going to the check in area she took us straight to our room and did the check in there. Which was very nice of them. The room it self was amazing. The views we had were amazing. the room was spacey and had great sound speakers in the wall which I could input my mp3 player. They provided a free red wine which was nice. The whole experience through out was perfect. The only thing they let down on was when I went to the main desk to ask them if a football match was on tv and they checked and said 'no' but while I was flicking through the channels I saw it on just before half time (i know i shouldn't be watch football during my honeymoon but the PL just started). The location is great not to far from the shops. Great hotel to stay in. I am glad I choose this hotel. :-)

We booked a harbour view room through Amex - and although upgraded to an enormous suite - actually asked, and were very glad to be downgraded to the room we booked. The view above the pool was incredible, all the sights were lit up at night and looked magical.

Good breaksfast, super efficient service - and really lovely pool, complete with complimentary water, ice creams etc.. On our last night because of an injury - we were unable to go out so ate in the italian restaurant by the pool - it was extremely good! and with the view thrown in, became an unlikely highlight of the trip.

The staff are charming, efficient and nothing is too much trouble. My niece ordered a room service club sandwich one evening which was not quite as described. She was not unduly upset but was asked whether it was good by the waitress who came to clear away the tray. She answered that she had been a bit disappointed that the cheese was missing. Without batting an eye the response was that she would therefore not be charged for it and the apologies were profuse.
Apart from the service, the rooms were very well equipped, you don't need to take an adaptor for electrical items and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The downside is that I failed to connect to the free wi-fi promised to be provided in all public places in Singapore nor could I work out how to get it in the hotel, in contrast to the hotel we moved on to the following week in Cambodia, where I got connected immediately without even needing a password.
The breakfast buffet is sumptuous. You certainly don't need lunch.
All this does of course come at a price. One evening my husband and I ate at the food court in the shopping mall attached to the Casino in the Marina Bay area near the hotel for a total of less than 13 Singapore dollars. After walking back to the Mandarin Oriental we decided to finish off the evening with coffee in the lounge bar. Our 2 coffees cost twice what our meals had cost. Even though they were really nice we were rather shocked.

Room Tip: We had a Premium room with a view of the Singapore flyer, the Casino and the Merlion in front of the...

Having stayed at the very best five star hotels in the past we can say without any hesitation the Mandarin Oriental is the absolute very best. The major factor which sets this hotel away from the others is the outstanding service experienced. We would say to anyone who has the opportunity to stay once in their lifetime in a hotel which has the highest standards ---- then book the Mandarin Oriental. Thank you to all staff who looked after us --- we will never forget our stay at this magnificent hotel. We were upgraded to Harbour Suite room and the 360 degree view of the Marina Bay Sand Hotel & Harbour View was breath taking --- in addition the Buffet Breakfast at Melt Restaurant was truly superb ! Thank you once again MOSIN.

Room Tip: High Floor and Harbour View Room is fantastic
