“OVER PRICED AND DATED....”
Reviewed April 26, 2010

We stayed here because they had a "Recession Package" deal. We arrived late in the evening and found the reception flat out.... and the nightclub / dance music also flat out.
Our room was dismal and dirty and worn.... even with the Recession Package deal it was not up to scratch. Fittings were old and surfaces well worn ... the place needs a serious re-fit. We tried the smorgasbord / buffet for breakfast (included in our special package) and it was nice enough but nothing special, I wouldn't recommend it if you have to pay. Also the service wasn't so great either, we had to keep hunting out the wait staff and then they would treat you as if it was an inconvenience.
The location also is not that great. We went out at night and during the day and found the place soul-less and sterile, like a shopping mall but full of bars and restaurants. And they were pricey, ridiculously so. Across the river was another large hotel / shopping mall and the MRT (which is handy) but once again soul-less. You could be in any city in the world. But if that's what you like then this is perfect.
Personally, I prefer the colourful areas of Singapore like Little India, Newton Hawkers Huts, Chinatown and so on, and I will be staying nearer to these next time.

We stayed here for 4 nights in an executive king with 2 rollaways for the kids.
It took some time for check in to find our reservation- an issue that repeated itself when the other 2 families in our group checked in a day later. The show Fawlty Towers comes to mind. Overbooking is definitely an issue as reviewed below and I'd definitely back up the aircrew issue, there was always a large crew coming and going. When we eventually got our room is was pleasantly furnished and large with plenty of space for the 4 of us, however it was on a smoking floor and stunk. It also had a lousy view over some roof tops, it seemed dark and unpleasant. I complained about the smell and they offered to "refresh" our room and we would be able to move the following day. We decided to stay on in the room knowing we would be using it only for sleeping anyway. Having said this, the hotel was in a fabulous location right next door to a major restaurant and entertainment area. We were on the quiet side of the hotel so had no noise issues at all. The buffet breakfast was lovely and the pool was huge and a welcome relief at the end of a long hot day on our feet.
Our main reason for choosing this hotel was the cost, we had pretty much blown the budget by staying at the Peninsula in HK as a treat so I knew it was going to be a huge come down, and we wanted a room that would take the 4 of us. However I won't stay here again, think next time I'd splash a little more cash and probably go for the Swissotel Merchant Court as it's in the same location but a much nicer hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback on Trip Advisor.

I am glad to read that you felt the rooms were pleasantly furnished and that you enjoy the Clarke Quay location of the hotel as well as the hotel facilities and our Buffet Breakfast at The SQUARE.

In regards to the delay in check in, please accept my apologies, and i have review this as it is of great concern to us at the hotel. The issue itself was related to a delay flight due to some of the travel disruptions experienced through out the region - and the hotel attempted to its best to resolve this situation, however I apologize that this was not the case in your example.

We take all feedback seriously so we can continue to improve and provide consistent service and quality at the hotel.

Kind Regards

Stayed one night here on a stopover in Singapore. We have always stayed in the Orchard area in the past but decided to try out Clarke Quay as we got a promotional rate for our room. We didn't spend as much time as we would like in the area but the bar/pub scene is literally around the corner. Our room was very nice - clean and well kept, and service was good once they found our reservation. Concierge was also very helpful with directions and recommendations. Only downside was that we couldn't get any hawker fare in the vicinity. The closest one was a good 10 minute walk away and choices were very limited. Overall a good stay for a stopover if you're intending to stay in the Clark Quay area.

Family of four stayed for 9 nights. Location was very central and within walking distance of restuarants, bars, MRT and attractions. Hotel basement has good quality supermarket and food outlets. Rooms on premium level were adequate and clean. Our rates included breakfast which was varied slightly each day to keep to a good quality. Pool area on level seven is very functional. Closeness to Clarke Quay is good and bad as can be a bit noisy on nights that entertainment is on. Overall this hotel is good for value and quality.

One big BEWARE though for people checking from say 4 pm to 9pm. The hotel seems to overbook heavily and rely on people leaving for late night flights and PARK guests in the foyer for indefinte periods until a room is ready. They cater heavily to the airline crews which leave at odd hours and hence they try to turn rooms twice a day.

We arrived after a 9 hour travel with a 6 and 4 year old at 8.30pm to be told that our room for the next 9 nights was not available. We were sat in the foyer until closer to 10pm until a room on the Premium floor 'magically' appeared when I started to express my discontent and requesting to see a copy of the hotels overbooking policy. Our upgrade to the premium floor did not allow us access to the Lounge, even though I am an A+ member who had been messed over at check in.

The next day (after our 10 pm check in) whilst the children were sleeping I went to see if I could sit in the lounge to read a book. To my disbelief I was asked to leave by the Lounge Manager - even for just wanting to sit in an empty room during the middle of the day!!!! At this time I vented my frustration at the way this hotel treats international travellers at check in - especially those with young children. I was curty reminded by the Lounge Manager that we only waited from 8.31pm to 9.55pm. Quite frankly this was insulting to my family. You try explaining to young children that have flown for hours to then sit in a hotel lobby why they cannot check into their room - with no offer of any assistance what so ever. To a fatigued family 84 minutes felt like a lifetime.

The next day the Lounge Manager (who obviously) recognised her judgement error expressed that after taking to the General Manager that we would be able to use the lounge, however, we would still need to have breakfast in the main restuarant. As a man of principles I refused to enter the Lounge for our entire stay. I can afford my own drinks thank you Novotel and quite frankly I prefer to choose the company I keep and like to go where I am made welcome.

We travelled with mulitple groups who stayed at this hotel and over half of them experienced the "Your room is not ready scenario". Each night on returing from dinner we saw the same thing over and over again.

General Manager Larouqe you need to consider the current policy of overbooking as it places your staff under intense pressure as fatigued travellers simply want to check in and complete their journey. You have a solid hotel in a great location. It is unfair that you treat your staff and guests as second class to chase the extra dollar for the transient airline crew market.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for the positive comments you made regarding our hotel. However I am sorry that we were not able to meet all your expectations.

The hotel hosts a relatively small air crew, and usually does not overbook since all bookings are confirmed in advance. They experienced a couple of delayed flights recently, which would explain the fact that you had to wait for your room.

The Premier Lounge staff just followed the procedures, designed to protect the exclusiveness of Premier Floors’ guests who are willing to pay extra for the additional services. I hope this was clearly explained, and that you were given the option to avail the Premier Lounge benefits.

However, in a commercial stand point, the issue was not properly handled, and I do understand your disappointment. Your comments though have prompted us to revise our policies concerning this matter.

We appreciate your input, which will benefit future guests, should a same situation happen again.

We travelled to Singapore within a party of 18. We arrived at the hotel at 5.30am and we did not ask for early check in nor pay and the hotel kindly allowed us entry to our rooms without charge. Only concern was our room had 2 x single beds and considering it was my husband and I with a 2yr old and a 4yr old the bedding needless to say did not add up. So we went back to the reception (located floor 7) and they promptly moved us into a suitable room within 30 minutes. Excellentcustomer service. The rooms were spacious and clean, bathroom large with a good layout especially with young kids. The pool was excellent and the breakfast each morning was excellent. The wait staff eosecially Prabu was awesome each morning he would have tables awaiting our party and paid particular attention to our daughter always ensuring they had suitable cutlerly, a high chair and often got them a hot chocolate and food etc (he was a marvel). All the staff especially the wait staff and conceirge made you feel like part of the family and you were welcomed very warmly. Location was fantastic - only downside if you have prams walking over the brisge to get to MRT etc having to carry up the pram those steps. Restaurants everywhere along Clarke Quay and 7elven right next door and a shopping mall attached (needed nothing all within fingertips)...Money changer and starbucks also attached to hotel. We stayed on floor 11 never heard Clarke Quary bit we also requested facing park so not backing or looking onto the Quay so no noise issues...

This hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of Clark Quay, perfect for any type of Night life / Dining. Pool view room was quiet, clean and had great views. Hotel staff were very very friendly, and could not do enough for us. Concierge was particularly helpful, giving us bus details on how to get to our locations.
Hotel is right above a shopping centre, with food court, supermarket, massage, electronics, fragrances and more. Only disadvantage, is concierge is on ground floor with a lift to the hotel check in is on level 7. You need to change lifts to get to the rooms. Walking distance to Central MRT station and a nice 5 to 20 min stroll along the river foreshore to major attractions / tourist interest points, i.e Singapore Flyer.
