Stayed at the Marriott Singapore for four night as part of business travel. This was my first stay at the hotel and overall I was satisfied with the choice.

Location: Ideally situated on Orchard Road. Only need to walk downstairs to experience all of the character, culture, shopping, and food that the heart of the Orchard area has to offer (watch your wallets!). Within 10-15 minutes walk are the Botanic Gardens and the Newton Circus hawker center. Co-located with Orchard MRT station to whisk you away to any part of the city very efficiently. Taxis are also easy to come by via the hotel staff, and they can get you to any part of the core city for $10 or less (airport will be $20-25, sometimes $30 depending on time of day and surcharges).

Room: Most rooms are in the tower, and the higher you are the better the views. My room faced Orchard Road and the view from the 13th floor afforded views of the skyline and the lights below. The room was modern and spacious. Two large closets including the safe, iron/board, robes/slippers, etc. Large marble topped desk with light. Bed was inviting and comfortable. Modern bathroom featured separate vanity area, large walk-in glass rain shower, and enough space to move around freely. Air conditioning worked perfectly, and guests are able to adjust temperature as desired. Large flat screen television with ample channel selections. As I was travelling during the NFL playoff season, I appreciated having access to the ASN station which carried all of the games (easier than finding a local expat bar in the wee hours of the morning). Wifi was quick to access and fast enough to get some work done.

Facilities: The gym is sizable and features all of the essential equipment (free weights, weight machines, and all cardio machines). Complimentary water and additional towels within. The pool is clearly designed as a resort hangout, however it's large square size makes for a decent swim workout early in the morning (no one around). A few different restaurant options, all of which are over priced (even for an expensive city). The pool grill is a nice spot for a drink or outdoor meal. Wan Hao chinese restaurant has apparently won awards. I enjoyed a quick Dim Sum brunch there on Sunday morning. The cafe downstairs as well as the coffee stand are good places for a morning bite before heading to the office. Of course, being in Singapore will leave you with no shortage of fantastic food options, so I'd definitely suggest making a effort to get away from the hotel's food offerings if you have the time.

Service: As most would expect for a high-star hotel/resort in Singapore, the service is impeccable. Immediately greeted at the taxi door with a warm welcome and help with the bags through to the room. The warm welcome was continued at the reception desk. The receptionist was unable to offer me a room with a King bed (disappointing considering my 1 month advanced reservation), and she was quite apologetic for it, but still kept a smile on her face with a positive demeanor. She even went to the trouble of delivering a hand-written note again apologizing for the lack of King rooms (a very nice and personal touch/gesture). The concierge was very helpful with directions, maps, and reservations.

Miscellaneous: My only gripe concerns crowd control. The hotel is located on a very busy corner and the lobby door dumps right out onto the main side walk. It can often be challenging to simply navigate through the walking traffic out to the taxi stand. Once arriving at the taxi stand you may then have a time fending off random people (non-guests) trying to jump into the hotel guest priority taxi line. Hotel staff does their best to control the rif-raf, but rush hour (especially in the morning) can be frustrating.

Room Tip: High floors with south and west facing rooms offer the best views.

We loved the beautiful architecture and also Christmas decoration. The Christmas Day buffet dinner was fantastic, there were lots of delicious foods, like fois gras (of different types) and the main course of beef was just to die for - cooked to perfection and to my liking (very rare) and my husband's (rare). The whole hotel experience was just amazing. Loved it! This was not our first time at this hotel and certainly not our last.

I had a two-night stay - my first - at the Singapore Marriott during the Lunar New Year holiday. Singapore is an especially popular destination for Chinese tourists during the New Year break, and hotel prices and occupancy rates rise accordingly.

If you're interested in shopping, the Marriott has a prime location in the heart of the Orchard Road retail district. You're a short walk from dozens of stores and restaurants, and right next to the Orchard MRT (subway) station. Even during the holiday rush, we were able to get a taxi within about ten minutes at the hotel's taxi stand.

The hotel itself is in a tower with a Chinese-style "pagoda" roof. I'm guessing the complex was originally built in the 90s, or even earlier, but appears to have been updated in the past few years. Although the hotel was originally built with a nod to Chinese design, the makeover seems to be Marriott's attempt to "get hip". The result is sort of a Marriott in Hyatt drag. There's nothing wrong with any of the furniture or fixtures, but I wouldn't make the Marriott a priority if you're particular about design.

We were in the basic category of room, which was quite large and bright, with ample window space and city views. The bed was comfortable, and the bedding was excellent. In addition to a small couch at the foot of the bed, there's a built-in table with chairs next to the window - a great set-up for work or eating in the room. We didn't try the hotel's breakfast buffet; a room service order came quickly, and was of good quality. Housekeeping was thorough and efficient. The air conditioning worked well, and the room was well sound-proofed.

Check-in and check-out ran smoothly, and the concierge desk was helpful in providing basic sightseeing information. Outside the lobby, the staff handling arrivals/departures and taxis appeared to be overwhelmed. When we were getting a taxi to the airport, our request to have our luggage sent out somehow got lost. After waiting around, we went back into the hotel and discovered our bags sitting unattended on the lobby floor. It certainly wasn't a major crisis, but you'd normally expect this category of hotel to have the basics under control.

Overall, the Marriott is a good base if you want to be right in the middle of the Orchard Road retail scene.

Simply the best. Had an excellent stay with my family. My son really felt at home and wants to visit every year. We had the opportunity to experience true hospitality of Singapore. The hotel was but away from Sentosa island and hence had to make an early start. But the bus was on time and took us in time for the start. We will definitely come back again and I hope the hotel can give us the same experience. I must say it was the perfect location for shopping and my wife did not spare the credit card. We managed to shop and drop off the bags and go back for more shopping. Ideal location and excellent service. Will recommend to anyone who wants to have the comfort and ease of shopping.

Great location and an immaculate hotel. Best of all is the staff. There are a lot of hotels elsewhere that try to be friendly but they don't know what they are doing. But at the Singapore Marriott, the staff is very friendly and well trained. This is definitely one of the best Marriotts I have ever stayed in.
