A rather folorn sort of place: some of it half-consumed by re-growth of the forest, some of the traditional family graves still tended and/or restored: you will see the offerings of food, water and burning papers left by descendents of the dead.

It is sad that Singapore does not place much value on this precious reminder of its history: they are building a road through here parallel to the existing 6-lane one which will save all of 30 seconds from journey times, but such is the primacy of the transport department (LTA) that nobody much cares, or if they do they have no clout to do anything about it. Mass exhumations will be taking place in early 2013 before the bulldozers arrive: see it before then.

I made a trip to Singaapore in April 2012 to visit Bukit Brown and glad I did. Saddens me to think by the end of the year an 8 lane expressway will go through here. This is a wonderful slice of SE Asian history in a natural surrounding abundant in trees and wildlife. Yes, it's a bit rough but that's its charm - no plastic tourist trap here. Visit it while you can.

Excellent park and historical site of forefathers (and ancestors of present locals) and early Singaporean Chinese immigrants. Unfortunately this site is planned for redevelopment by the present government.

The Bukit Brown Cemetery used to be the burial site for the pioneers who came to Singapore. Each grave seems to be telling a different story. Visitors should try to keep to themselves and show some respect when in the Bukit Brown Cemetery.
