Granted, there are many restaurants on Boat Quay in Singapore, offering a table at the Singapore river; you can select a restaurant with food that appeals to you at the moment. Furthermore, when you walk along Boat Quay, at every restaurant you will be approached by a "barker", who will recommend his restaurant urgently, handing you a menu. Some years ago we plumped for Lanna Thai Restaurant and found that they served tasty food and the service was impeccable. Well, maybe there are restaurants at Boat Quay which offer comparable quality or even better, but I want to talk about the experience, which makes Lanna for me one of the magic spots in the world. You are having dinner at a table facing the Singapore river; across the Raffles landing site and dusk sets in, the bumboats, festooned with red Chinese lanterns are chugging by and the almost surreal giant bank skyscrapers are looking down on you. And do not forget the excellent meal and the pleasant service at Lanna. We reserve at least one dinner for Lanna when in Singapore. A general tip for Boat Quay visitors. As there are many restaurants vying for the customers, there is always some sort of happy hour or discount action going on. Do not forget to ask, otherwise you pay full price.
