We stayed here overnight in transit back to NZ. The staff were excellent and spoke good english. The room was nice the usual small room size for Singapore but we were use to this. The hotel secured our luggage so we could spend a few hrs at Clark Quay before flying home. Good location near a small shopping mall with food court, restaurants and near some bars. 15 mins from the airport which cost us $15 singapore dollars in a taxi. Overall recommended.

The restaurant is set to the side of the lobby and is worth a visit. The food was not too bad, though we prefer the one at Keppel Club. They did not have babi ponteh the day we visited, which was rather disappointing. We also ordered the pengat durian desserts, which were not too bad, though a little on the expensive side.

We stayed here for four nights and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean, efficiently run, and situated in a building (and neighbourhood) with a lot of character. A problem we had with the hotel safe was immediately fixed, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. We had a room facing a side-street and noise was not an issue.

Location-wise, the hotel is not within walking distance to the MRT but is across the street from a number of buses that will take you to the heart of the city. I should also mention that the hotel is extremely well-situated if you want to try Singaporean food - within walking distance, there are 4 good chicken rice places (including Tian Tian and Five Star), a great air-conditioned food court on the top floor of 112 Katong Mall, and many other assorted eateries.

The only nitpick I have is that the breakfast was a mishmash of random western foods - scrambled eggs, baked beans, mini pizza, fries - and could do with more local flavour. But that's a very minor complaint. Overall, this hotel delivers exceptionally good value.

The hotel isn't that good located if you want to go shopping etc. but we'e booked it for an overnight stay on our trip to australia and it fit the purpose. Close to the airport, nice and helpful staff, good breakfast and clean rooms with everything you need. If you have a lot of luggage, you should try another hotel - the rooms aren't really spacious for two huge suitcases.

I checked in on 29 Jun. There were two counter staff. The younger ladynl needs more training on customer relations. However, the older lady receptionist made the experience five stars! The rooms were new, beautiful and smell great. Nearby is a huge shopping mall with everything you need.

The hotel is in a lovely area with some charcater. The streets around it include old traditional shop fronts., and there is a range of restaurants for all budgets (as well as a shopping mall) nearby.

Our family room was clean and comortable, but interesting. The room's only wndow was a skylight, resulting in the room being a bit dark - not a problem for a short term stay.

This is a reasonably priced hotel for Singapore with good service.

Anyone like me, who prefers a small, boutique hotel with character to a massive, concrete and glass 5 star pile but also wants a swimming pool, will be interested in the Santa Grand Hotel East Coast. There aren't many boutique hotels with character and a pool in Singapore.
The front of the Santa Grand is a delightfully restored row of Chinese shop houses onto which has been added a new, 5 storey building at the rear. There is a good, Nonya style restaurant on the ground floor - breakfast for guests only in the mornings, but open to the public for lunch and dinner. I guess that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the breakfasts seemed entirely adequate for me and my wife, both in terms of quantity and variety. The rooms are adequate in size and simply but well furnished. The rooftop pool provides expansive views over East Singapore to the city skyline and, with Singapore's humidity, a delight at the end of a sticky day (or at any time, for that matter)
Overall the service was very good and friendly, although there were some hiccups. It took too long to get a response to our request to have some soap put into our shower and there was a problem with the room safe which was never successfully fixed. The location, just off the Marine Parade suited our purposes extremely well (visiting an expat daughter about to give birth) but would otherwise be "different". It's actually in a very interesting area, close to the East Coast Park and sea/harbour, and also with a lot of interesting restored old buildings. There's a couple of large shopping Centres just down the road and a wide range of restaurants and cafes (funny that for Singapore!). However it's about half way between the airport and the city centre, so not ideal for an airport stop over and not in the city centre for the nightlife and full-on shopping. However, public transport in Singapore is always close, and the cab charge for getting to the centre won't bankrupt you.

Room Tip: We were in the old, restored part of the hotel. These rooms have large shutters over the windows and...
