The Forest by Wangz
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 20, 2013

I stayed in the Forest for 9 nights in Sept with my husband in a studio and can truly say that this has been the best place that we had stayed in Singapore during our many visits to this country over the past 13 years. The unique selling point of this property is undeniably the superior standard of service which compares very well with the deluxe 5 star hotels in Singapore, and in some respects surpasses these. The staff go way out to bring satisfaction and comfort to the guests, be it a request for late check out, special items for breakfast, bookings for transport, etc.
The hotel also operate a convenient shuttle service to a number of locations with very accommodating drivers providing polite and efficient services.
The hotel is modern and clean and well managed with good facilities and amenities. I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends and look forward to staying at the Forest again on my next visit

We have stayed in the Forest by Wangz for 10 days. We had ordered an executive room which is the second category (there are three altogether). We had booked that room thinking that we would have somewhat more space than in the studio category. Also we both work with our laptops and we thought that there will be enough space to work as well.
Beforehand we had asked for an early check in due to our flights arriving early in Singapore. The staff told us via email that an early check in can not be guaranteed, even though they will try to do their best. When we arrived, we were very pleased that we could instantly check in. But the room was so tiny. I find the pictures a bit deceiving, because with the mirrors and the glass bathroom the room looks bigger than in reality. Also we were very disappointed to find out that there is no real desk to work on, but only a small portable desk where you have to sit on the couch to be able to work on it. Also in the studio executive, there was only one closet, which for two people is way too small.
For the two of us, who need some space but what is more who always need to work with their laptops, this room was not an option. One of the staff members advised me to go down in the lobby or restaurant to work there, but it isnt an option to really work either.

When i complained at the front desk and said that we needed enough work space and more space and that we had booked the room thinking that it would offer more space, the lady at the reception desk offered us an upgrade for a fair prize. We then went to the third category which is the only category that i can actually recommend. It is also the only category that has a real desk where you can work on. All other rooms are much too small and dont offer enough space to work or relax. They might work if you stay for a night as a business traveller and dont stay in your room so much, but in my opinion they dont work for longer stays.

Also this third category has a balcony and a tub, which are nice extras to have, especially if you stay longer and are on holiday in Singapore. It also has a washing machine (the dryer function didnt really work), a fridge and some basic equipment to cook. I was happy that you can open the windows in the rooms (but AC is also there of course). It is also very quiet there, the beds are comfortable and you can sleep well.

The staff members informed us that there is no breakfast on sundays, which i think is rather weird and not a sign of good service.
They say it is due to the fact that these are serviced apartments and that they are not a normal hotel. Now i have stayed in many serviced apartments in many countries already and i have never encountered one that didnt offer breakfast every day. Also i think for the price of the room and the standard of these apartments, a breakfast should at least be available every day.

Also the breakfast buffet did not fulfill our expectations. It consists of toast, two jams, butter or cream cheese, croissants, one cereal and milk, plain or fruit joghurt, three fresh fruit options, a Asian bun and chocolate breads. You can have eggs or ham or mashed browns as well. It is okay as a basic breakfast, but you are better off if you dont expect too much. It is really simple. I feel they could stock up without problems, offer several cereals for example and not just one, offer more jams, chocolate spread, cheese and vegetables such as tomatoes, etc. and maybe offer other food options, like Indian breakfast options, etc. Again, it is okay, but it is not really an amazing breakfast. Some days therefore we went to have brekfast elsewhere, just to get more veggies, more diversity, more options.

The pool is nice and clean. It is not very deep and not very long, but it is okay.

The staff at the reception is very friendly and most people from the restaurant section were friendly too. The cleaning lady was super friendly and did an amazing job, because our room was very well maintained, cleaned and cared for.

Shower gel and shampoo you get in a travel size once a week. So you should bring your own or not expect it to be replaced every day.

Wifi was well working and available in the room. I found it a bit annoying that you have to login every day again, but its okay.

We asked the staff again for a late check out because our flights were in the evening and they were very nice to actually let us stay longer. I think it was also due to the fact that we have stayed in the hotel for over a week.

We reached most of the places downtown by taxi or MRT. With the MRT it is just a couple of stops and the station is not so far, so you can easily also use public transportation to move about in Singapore.
We were content with our stay at the Forest by Wangz. But considering that the rooms for example in other bigger hotels are similar priced, we dont know if we would return. Because other hotels might be more near the city center so you dont have to take a cab or MRT and also other hotels might offer bigger rooms, more space to work inside the rooms, breakfast offered on all days and a huge breakfast buffet. So if any of these points above are important to you, you might reconsider your stay at the Forest. We liked our stay and were content with the staff, but we think the Forest by Wangz could offer a bit more to its guests for the price.

Room Tip: Chose the highest category if you stay longer, because all other rooms are really tiny. Also if you...

Dear eve E,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your recent trip in Singapore. I apologise for not meeting all your expectations and am delighted to read your compliments on the Guest Services, Breakfast Lounge and Housekeeping team’s service.

Unfortunately, as with a number of serviced properties in Singapore, we do not offer breakfast on Sundays and local public holidays. Your feedback on the semi-buffet spread is also noted and we are looking at how the variety can be further improved to cater to differing tastes.

We are sorry your apartment dryer was not working well. Our maintenance team has re-checked the machine in the apartment after reading your review to ensure its good running order. Please do not hesitate to approach any one of the team should you encounter any inconveniences in future and we will address the issues immediately. Early check-ins and late check-outs are subject to apartment availability and we are glad to have been able to accommodate your requests.

Once again, we appreciate your support and hope for future opportunities of serving you.

We recently visited our daughter and partner in Singapore who are based in Novena. We were keen to stay close by and in an apartment with preferably a pool to relax by and breakfast provided.
The Forest by Wangz not only provided all these things but surpassed our expectations in the personal service that was provided by our "hands on" manager Syed Faizal Alriffat (happy to tuck in his tie and clean tables, help at breakfast time and no doubt lots of other unseen tasks), the breakfast chefs, our excellent housekeeper, the dedicated maintenance chap and all the other staff at reception who were happy to help us whenever we needed assistance with things like taxis etc.
I can honestly say that Forest by Wangz provided us with the true meaning of the word "service". As the Manager said "We have the luxury of being small enough to provide personal service to our guests." Syed and the other staff took the time to get to know their guests and one nice touch was that he even provided us with natural unsweetened yoghurt for breakfast when I mentioned that I had suffered a stomach bug in one of the countries we had visited and wanted to eat this while taking antibiotics.
The apartment was kept spotless each day by our housekeeper - thank you. The furniture and fixtures are modern and the studio apartment we stayed in was well appointed with tasteful decor throughout. We also used the iron and ironing board.
The pool is delightful to sit by. The art work is lively, charming and modern particularly the lighting on the outside facade which is fun to watch at night as it changes colour. The hotel has only 5 floors so is a low rise building and is definitely an oasis in the concrete jungle of Singapore as someone else said. There is a really pleasant atmosphere about the whole building, particularly chilling on the rooftop lounge just as the sun was setting. I just wish more architects would realise that you can make a building feel intimate.
The hotel is so conveniently located for the MRT and just a couple of stops to Orchard Road and the rest of the wonderful urban jungle of Singapore.
One last thing that we really appreciated was that we were only staying 6 nights and we asked Syed if it would be ok for our daughter to stay the final night instead of us. They were only too happy to provide clean sheets and towels for their stay. Above and beyond the call of duty.
This is probably one of best boutique hotels we have stayed in and at a reasonable price comparable to the other higher priced hotels who don't offer breakfast. Thanks to all the staff. You are a great team.
You made our trip to Singapore very memorable.

It is very difficult to fault this hotel. We stayed here for 9 nights in early September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located just outside the Singapore City Centre providing a retreat from the busy city centre. The hotel is located on the attractive tree lined street Moulmein Road and very well located being a short 10 minute walk to the Novena MRT Station on the North/South Line with trains at approximately 3 minute intervals until 12 midnight and approximately 10 minutes travel to Orchard Road, MRT Interchange (Dhoby Ghaut) or the City Centre. Surrounding Novena Station are the Velocity, United Square and Square 2 Shopping Malls with a wide range of food choices and shops that are open till about 10 pm every night. The surrounding area appears to be up market apartments and a number of medical centres or hospitals. There is also a high frequency bus stop about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

The exterior of the hotel is an attractive forest tree architectural facade and lights up at night. While our room was facing the main Moulmein Road, the lights turned off somewhere between 10pm and 11pm and the block out curtains meant we were not disturbed by outside lights. Some minor road noise could be heard inside but this was not at all disturbing.

The hotel is very clean and with modern furnishings. The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and a high level of ambience. The hotel common areas feature 'forest' elements and indoor plants giving a relaxed and tropical feel to the hotel that is a blessing in an area dominated by the busy city.

We had a studio room which continued the modern furnishings and forest theme. The room had great natural light and felt roomy through the clever use of furnishings and layout. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and after a day of exploring the delights of Singapore was very welcoming upon our return to the hotel. The studio room feature basic cooking facilities, a fridge and ample storage space including wardrobe, safe and cupboards. The room included 3 chairs, a table and desk along with bed side tables. Tea facilities were provided, along with 2 x 1L bottled water (although it is safe to drink tap water). However no milk was provided.

The climate control was great and it was nice to enter an air conditioned room after being out in the hot humid environment all day. No noise from the air conditioning. The hotel also features wireless internet throughout which is fast and free. No iron was provided in the room although there was one in the adjacent common hallway cupboard.

The bathroom was clean and the rain shower very enjoyable. The bathroom is separated from the main living area by a frosted glass screen which at first appearances may not provide much privacy. However the frosting on the glass is more than enough to provide adequate privacy and even with the best imagination there is very little if anything you can see in the bathroom. The design maximises the use of light within the studio room.

The room featured a large TV facing the bed with satellite channels including documentaries, news and Australia Network (which allowed us to view the 2013 Federal Election results live). There was an alarm clock and stereo along with adapters to enable charging of your devices.

The room was serviced daily except Sunday which you are told about well in advance. The cleaning service is fault free, with fresh towels and refill of tea and bathroom amenities.

The hotel features a large lap pool which is very clean and enjoyable. The roof deck on the top floor also provide respite and good views of the surrounds.

There is also a laundry which is SD$5 a wash although we were presented with 1 token for a single wash. The use of the dryers are free.

The hotel has a common dining area with breakfast served daily. The breakfast is basic with a range of cut fruit, store bought pastries, toast and cereal. There is a cook who will make eggs however you like along with bacon and a daily special. We enjoyed pancakes on a number of morning along with egg, bacon and cheese sandwiches. The cook is very pleasant and friendly and remembers your preferences. For example he remembered we enjoyed pancakes so ensured he left enough to make us some each morning. He is also chatty and very helpful. A pleasant experience.

Lastly the hotel does have a 24 hour front desk. The staff also welcome you when you arrive and leave and are very helpful. They also present a smile and very approachable. They answer any questions and very accommodating.

The hotel has a late check out (12 noon) and you are able to store your bags for the day if you are departing later than the check out.

The only negatives I could come up with is that the design of the bathroom meant a drip could be heard for about 1 hour after use of the shower or basin, the inclusion of milk along with the tea in the room, and the coffee in the dining area could be improved as it tasted a little bitter. However I should note that I left these comments on the review sheet with the front staff who were very concerned and went to great lengths to understand my comments so that they could improve. Top marks for customer service and refreshing that a hotel takes any comment however minor so seriously.

Overall our experience with The Forest by Wangz was very pleasant and I'd highly recommend to others visiting Singapore. My mother who stayed somewhere a little cheaper was very jealous of our accommodation. We found it very relaxing and enjoyable to return to the hotel after a day wandering around Singapore. They even included a bottle of wine as a gift on our anniversary. It truly is a great venue as a retreat from the city and I'd have no hesitation to choose The Forest by Wangz again on my next visit. It is easy to see why this hotel is rated #1 on Trip Advisor in Singapore. A+

My wife and I stayed for 8 nights in a studio apartment and would recommend this Hotel to anyone. The staff, from manager down, would do anything for you. Breakfast was great and cooked any way you wanted. A shuttle service was supplied and went out of their way to drop you off where you wanted to go. A late checkout was given to us which us most comfortable. Everything was comfortable. Next stay we will try to book a one bedroom apartment facing the pool to enjoy maximum space. An excellent Hotel with top class service.

Room Tip: Choose a one bedroom apatment facing the pool area to achieve more room.

Fantastic place to stay! Great location within close walking distance to the MRT and several shopping centres. Very comfortable and trendy rooms. We stayed in a studio room with a king size bed -so comfy! Hotel facilities are beautiful and the complimentary services they provide such as wifi and breakfast are awesome compared to other hotels where you have to pay for these. Breakfast is delicious! The very best thing about this hotel is the friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here for our birthdays and all staff signed a birthday card and housekeeping left little cakes and chocolates in the fridge. All the staff know and personally greet you and wish you happy birthday. It was very lovely unexpected touch and very appreciated! The staff also were very helpful in providing advice on places to go, things to see and do. For the quality of service and facilities, this hotel is amazing value for money!

We stayed here as a family of 4 for 7 nights
Everything about thus hotel is top notch and considered - from the architecture, to the interior design to the top rating staff. Every inch of this place is stylish and well thought out. Every luxury is catered for.

The hotel staff go out of their way to help. Travelling with a 6 monther and 4 year old the hotel staff did everything possible to make it easier. Helping us into and out of taxis with pram and all, bottles of water when swimming and on the way out sightseeing. If there was any problem it was immediately fixed promptly and with a smile. The service here is the best. We are so glad we stayed here and especially after taking a day trip to Marina by the sands hotel to look at the famous infinity pool. There were queues and queues of people waiting to check in and check out - so Impersonal. There is none of that here at The Forest by Wangz. It's just great and we are sad to go home.

It's a great boutique apartment with great touches and fantastic staff. A special thanks to OJ and Aimee and Aisha for the time you spent with our daughter...Thank you...we will be back.
