I was searching for a nice restaurant to celebrate my hubby's birthday and found this gem online. At first glance, the prices seem to be on the high side but considering that the restaurant is offering kaiseki (equivalent to Western haute cuisine) I felt they are pretty reasonable. The lunch menu is S$68++ while the dinner menu is S$180-280++.

The restaurant was fully booked for dinner on the day I wanted to make reservations so I decided to go for the lunch. A reservation is highly recommended as the restaurant is very small, with just a handful of tables.

The lunch menu consisted of 6 courses and every dish is excellent! Each dish was presented very beautifully and the lady boss patiently explained each dish to us. We cannot remember the Japanese names of the dishes but it ranged from cold tofu, sashimi, asssorted tempura, stewed pork, udon to desserts. The portion of each dish may seem small but they make a very satisfying meal at the end.

Our total bill came to over S$160 for 2 persons (we did not order any sake). I felt the food, service and overall experience was worth every cent. I will definitely return to try out the dinner menu soon. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for exquisite Japanese food. It is a perfect place for a leisurely paced meal.

The restaurant offers just two Kaiseki set meals, one priced at S$180 and the other at S$280, with the ++, of course! There is no menu available. Reservation is a must!

We had the $180 7-course menu as a tryout and it was an amazing culinary experience and despite the high price tag, this is one place worth visiting again because Mr. Goto will work out a different menu of carefully prepared dishes which reflect what the seasons have to offer…. so you will definitely taste something different each time! Even the tableware was selected to complement the food by their look, size and color. We were served by Mrs. Goto, a sweet friendly lady who gave us an explanation of the various dishes and she wrote down the names of some of the fish items when requested..

Like the delicate soup of thai fish with Matsutake mushroom, which was in season, then there was the most wonderful platter of sashimi with o-toro that melted in the mouth, swordfish belly, sea urchin, sea jelly, yellowtail, clam and squid, all were amazingly fresh…and all this was followed by another fish dish of Kinmedai pan-seared to perfection…We finished with fragrant mochi served with a freshly whisked bowl of quality green tea.

GOTO is not a fancy restaurant and there are very few tables (8). The food is deliciously good, exquisite, complex as any Kaiseki should be and it is worth a try!

One of the most refine authentic Japanese restaurant in Singapore. Quite pricey though. Service is impeccable as it's run by the chef Mr Goto and his wife. A nice and quiet place for a special occasion.

Goto is a tiny place, four tables, and pricey, $180 is the cheapest per person dinner, but it was a many course omakase, chef's selection, which was exquisite in its preparation breadth, and use of unqiuely regional Japanese foods. There were so many quirky, clever touches, without it feeling showy or forced, and needless to say, the quality of all the ingredients was impeccable. Not your everyday place, but a special occasion spot for foodies that want to get beyond hotel sushi spots and see a wider specttrtrum of Japanese food.
