“Cheap and you feel it!!!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Ali's Nest was quite an experience...Firstly we got the smallest double room that could possibly exist (be warned if he takes you to the third floor and last room!!!!), with a bunk bed an air-con and a small shelf all cramped into 6 square meter. Secondly it was just under the roof and as soon as it rained it was really loud and two nights it even rained through the ceiling onto our bags! Thirdly they smoked in the whole house which wasn't very pleasant.

But at least it was cheap way to spend several days in Singapore and the location was good as well!!

Extremely good location in Little India, right next to the MRT station (Farrer Park) from where you can get anywhere in the city very quickly. The guesthouse is clean and homely with great wifi, kitchen area and bathrooms kept clean. The fan room we stayed in was small but the bed was very comfortable. Please be aware it's $40 per night per any double room (fan or a/c) - and not the price quoted on their website. Also, you may book an a/c room but get whatever room is available once you arrive. You will forgive Ali (the owner) for that once you meet him, he's a very colorful character and a really nice guy who will give you a lot of interesting and useful tips about Singapore. And after a lot of looking around you will find that he definitely provides the cheapest rooms in Singapore.

Breakfast is simple- toast and jam, fresh coffee/ tea available all day.

Definitely recommended when staying in Singapore.

This place is truly great !
Super clean, the bathrooms (which there are heaps of) are cleaner than most hotels !
Excellent location - right in little india, walking distance from the MRT Farrier Park and Little India Stations, as well as shopping malls, markets, and street food area !
Free breakfast in the morning if you want toast/spreads, coffee, tea etc.
Theres a kitchen with fridge, jug, stove, etc etc - i found this great one night i cooked up heaps of steamed veg as i was sick of always eating out .
The staff are friendly, the dorm fits 8 people, there are also private rooms as well.
The best sleep i've ever had in asia was my first night here in the dorm !!
Lounge/eating area is clean and really comfortable .
Not a single bad thing to say !!
(the dorm room was $15 per night)

We stayed at Ali’s Nest in September 2010 for a couple of weeks. Ok, so the accommodation is basic (located on the 1st and 2nd floors) – we had a double room on the top floor of the ‘nest’ above the kitchen and lounge. We had a double mattress (no frill’s on the floor kind!) with air con (a must have!). The shower block is kept very clean by Ali and was right outside our door which was handy, the kitchen can be used no matter what time of day (although there are so many great restaurants nearby it’s not really needed apart from to make drinks) and is often being used by Ali or his family.

There is a great collection of books in the lounge which you can use or swap and take away. It is basically a homestay style place, so get used to comings and goings and family members sitting around on the ground floor.

Ali’s place is located in Little India and near to the Mustafa Centre – which is open all the time (24 hours if I recall correctly) – there is also another shopping centre which is slightly posher and has the generic places including McDonalds (who also deliver!).

Ali was a great host and is always up for a chat as well as full of handy information. Always greeting you with a 'good morning' no matter what time of day or night!

This is a great place to meet other backpackers and experience how locals live! If you’re looking for a hotel this place isn’t for you…..but is one of the cheapest places to stay in Singapore!

Room Tip: Top floor was quite quiet and right next to the showers/toilets

Ali's Nest was a clean and friendly place to stay in Singapore.

Ali is a helpful, warm and hospitable host. The rooms were basic and functional but clean. Shared bathroom facilities - clean and equipped with hot and cold water. Tea and coffee available all day and 'breakfast' included (modest spread of bread and jams). Nice kitchen/lounge area to meet other travellers and the classical music is a lovely touch.

Good location, a minute walk from Farrer Park MRT in the Little India district. Easy walk to the heart of Little India and Arab Street for lovely, budget food.

Recommended.

Ali's place is a very surprising place. First when you enter everything is quiet, but as soon as we climbed up the stairs Ali welcomed us very nicely. He offered us breakfast (we were staying one night but arrived very early the first day so it was two free breakfast). Ali is very helpful and the classical music is perfect for breakfast. the neighborhood is also quite close from the city center and you can find a lot of cheap indian place a a big food court down the main street. The beds were not that comfy but it was alright. Sanitary were very clean and functioned perfectly.

this place is awesome..
it may seem a but cluttered but its closes thing to staying at a locals home.
u have full run of the house, there are penty of bathrooms (4).. so that u dont have to
wait in the morning..
Ali himself is a great host and an unlimited source of local info.
i stayed in the dorm room which was s$15 a night with the aircon on so the room stays cool.
i only planned to stay 2 nights but ended up staying the whole week.
even felt slighly tearful when checking out and saying goodbye.

be sure to check out mustapha center on syed alwi road (5 mins walk)
