“Great little hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2011

I stayed here for three nights recently, and would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel is located in Little India, and it is only a short walk away from the MRT. It is about 10 minutes by taxi to Orchard Rd. We really enjoyed all the nearby Indian restaurants, and also walked over to Arab Street.

The hotel itself is very cool, with funky interiors throughout. I had a mono room and it was large and well appointed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. I loved the Kiehl's bathroom products, the Nespresso machine, the free minibar, and the wifi.

I had read other reviews that said that some rooms get noisy. I requested a more quiet room when I booked and had absolutely no problems with noise levels.

Breakfast was good, but it is a little different to many hotels. The buffet was really just bread and muesli, but there was a menu with different options for eggs, pancakes, etc. and they were all great.

The staff were all really friendly and helpful.

We were splashing out on a nice place to stay in Singapore because it does tend to be expensive. We also made use of a special offer to stay in one of the Whimsical Lofts which I highly recommend if you get the chance.

We stayed in the space room and LOVED it. The cuddly aliens, the star lighting, the coffee, the biscuits, the Kiel's products, the shower, the bath, his&hers sinks. All perfectly fitted into a designer space. We found the room was a great size, not so big that you get lost in it, but with space to put everything away.

As others have said, it tends to be design over function but I need to stress that the design is sooooo good, that it just means that the function is not perfect. Examples are that the lighting in the space room is atmospheric - you can make it pitch black at night, but it doesn't get *really* light during the day. I wouldn't recommend packing after dark as you would be bound to forget something on one of the many useful shelves or nooks. The unusual seating in the space room also meant that we probably would have chosen a different room if we were staying for a longer time - the typewriter room we saw around probably had a more conventional set up that would appeal to different people. We didn't have a single problem with noise from the street (even though we faced the open air restaurants) or leaking showers.

The staff were very helpful and informative - though I would say that they are more used to dealing with more discerning customers than us backpacker types and were surprised we were taking the MRT to the airport rather than booking a taxi. Location to MRT stations is great - you can walk to Bugis (on the line from the airport) or to Little India (on the line to Clarke Quay) in approximately 5-8 minutes. The local restaurants are cheap and tasty - I can recommend the vegetarian ones.

I cannot believe that other people were not delighted with the breakfast - it's possibly one of the best breakfast spreads we have experienced. There was a DIY muesli bar so you could make up your own muesli to your own taste, with lots of unusual toppings, and there was freshly baked croissants and homemade bread. There were specials every day (always including a vegetarian option) on top of the other cooked meals you could order like a full breakfast, or banana and pecan maple crumble pancakes. We ate so much we didn't really need to stop for lunch!

Overall I would highly recommend Wanderlust Hotel to anyone travelling who wants luxury and design in a unique setting - far better than the bland "luxury" hotels that you could pay twice the price to stay in. It's somewhere you genuinely want to explore and stay in - we couldn't wait to get back to our room each day.

Room Tip: Space Room is quirkier than others, whimsical lofts are a great size

We found the hotel while searching for boutique hotels in Singapore and took a punt. It worked out to be a nice surprise. Right away the staff were friendly and welcoming, allowing us to check in very early (although we insisted we were happy to just leave our bags for a few hours and wander around). We took a small room because it was a short stay. The room was small and the separate cubicle idea for the shower and toilet was a strange concept. The toilet cubicle was closest to the bed so a little odd when you or your partner/travelling companion needs the facilities! Apart from that the room was pretty clean, great to have a Nespresso machine & nice tea selection. Being in Little India is a different experience to being central in town. But we enjoyed the visit and dinner at Banana Leaf Apollo a few streets away. I think we would stay again but would definitely look at a bigger room for sure. As the different floors have different designers I wouldn't think all rooms have cubicle shower/toilet set up. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and reception/bar/restaurant area. Thank you to all the staff who assisted us during the two days - you were fantastic! Hope to visit again soon.

Room Tip: Probably look for larger rooms, but everything was great!

Warm Greetings from Wanderlust Hotel!

We are pleased to hear that you have enjoyed your stay. I believe you stayed in the Pantone category. Yes, that room is a little smaller than our Mono & Whimsical categories. We try to accord our guests with different amenities to make the room worthwhile. Perhaps when you come back for your future stay, do request to stay in the Mono Deluxe category. It is much spacious and the design is more enhanced and visually descriptive. The team at Wanderlust looks forward to having you with us again!

The hotel was very funky indeed. We stayed in one of the treehouse rooms and it was beautifully decorated. The Nespresso coffee and complimentary drinks was a big plus, along with the bath products too.
Only downside was the steep stairs to the bed above (wouldn't recommend this room to those who are not able-bodied). The shower was unfortunately rather leaky in the sense that the water seeped out of the glass doors.
Location-wise we weren't too bothered. It's a bit out of the way but it's in a nice area.
Otherwise a very good experience.

Warmest Hellos from the team at Wanderlust Hotel! Thank you for your kind feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed some of the amenities in the room that we have offered. Rest assured, your information regarding the leaky shower will be feedbacked to the management. If you do decide to come back for a future stay with us, I personally recommend for you to choose the Origami room in our Mono category. It gives a vibrant yet comfortable experience. Till then, we wish you safe travels!

The design of the hotel, the restaurant, the service and breakfast are all good, which i shall not elaborate.

The location is in little india, very vibrant, but during weekends and at night, it could be VERY noisy. My room was facing the restaurants with outdoor dining areas that open till after midnight. The noise was crazy, and luckily the hotel was also aware of the problem and provided in the room a pair of ear plug to block the noise, otherwise, i don't think i can sleep at all.

There was some problem with the drainage of the shower room, after shower, the water could not drain away well. Mine was the yellow submarine room with a bath tub, which should be one of the larger room on the floor.

The bed was comfortable (sorry to repeat again, the noise was really quite unbearable, luckily ear plugs were provided).

Hotels in Singapore in general are getting more and more expensive. This hotel, probably due to its location, is relatively reasonably priced. I would consider this hotel again for my next trip.

Greetings from Wanderlust Hotel! We thank you for your feedback and would like to apologise for the street noise and interruption. Located in Little India, the area is indeed bustling especially at night. Our guests' comfort is of utmost priority. Perhaps for your future stay in Wanderlust, do request for a quieter room and we will definitely accord you a room away from the streets. We look forward to welcoming you back again for a better experience. Till then, wishing you safe travels!

This is a great tourist hotel off the beaten path located near little India. Not comfortable for business travel.

Staff friendly. Breakfast was very good. The design of this hotel is boutique chic. Every room has a theme and is different.
I stayed in the Jimi Hendrix room so can only review that room. THE BEST BED EVER. Hands down. I didn't want to go to work - just wanted to stay in that bed. However getting in and out of the bed is uncomfortable. Not set up for any working environment. Loved the neon sign.
One very important tip - make sure to check the calendar for any Indian holidays, as getting a taxi is very difficult and can take up to half hour. Love the decor downstairs in the lobby area and the group seating in the dining area.

We stayed three times at Wanderlust, using it as a sort of "home base" while in Singapore during stops on an extended trip to Southeast Asia. We stayed there because we had stayed at their sister property Hotel 1929 when it first opened a few years ago and enjoyed that experience; this time, we wanted to try the company's newest hotel. Appearances can be deceiving, as the hotel is not much to look at from the outside and the lobby, despite trendy decor, is pretty modest. However, the rooms are incredibly well designed. Although small, and somewhat prone to noise from the outside, they are very comfortable. More amenities than you would expect in a much higher-end hotel are present: Nespresso machine, large plush towels, plentiful Kiehl's amenities, rainfall shower, very nice bed, large safe (with a plug for laptop or mobile phone), etc….just tucked into a very small space. It's not for everyone, of course - the lack of a desk and anywhere to sit besides the bed might be bothersome - but we found it perfect for our needs and wonderfully different from a typical hotel. Wi-fi was speedy and complimentary, although as others have noted, you can only connect one device at a time and switching is a little tricky. Note: there are much larger, but considerably more expensive, rooms available. We received a tour of a few of them and they were very cool.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is quite good. The servers are friendly and service is prompt. You can order a hot entree (there's a choice of two options) and browse from the fairly good selection of cereals, pastries, breads, etc. The only negative comment we have is that on our first stay, there was really good homemade yogurt, but that option had disappeared on our return visits.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They remembered us on return visits and were always available to assist with directions, restaurant recommendations, printing airline itineraries, storing luggage, etc. Despite the small size of the hotel, there is someone at the front desk 24 hours a day. Location is in Little India, which is teeming with great restaurants, including possibly the world's best kulfi (Indian ice cream) just down the street at Khulfi Bar. (Although, oddly, the hotel staff don't seem to recommend any Indian restaurants. Just go out and find one for yourself if they recommend elsewhere!) Nearest MRT station is an easy 8 minutes walk, and taxis are quite easily available (hotel will hail one for you). As with the rest of Singapore, it is very safe and orderly, and you can eat wherever without worries about hygiene.

Overall, we have great memories of our stays at Wanderlust and will return there whenever we're next in Singapore. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for something different from the usual Orchard Road experience.
