Stayed during one of the weekends in Jan. Got a complimentary upgrade to one of the Club rooms at the highest level.

The positives: room was cosy and generally clean. Staff was nice enough to accommodate my special request for room service for my friend's birthday celebration. Location is not too bad, with a good variety of chic restaurants and bars within walking distance.

The not-so-good: checking in and checking out took quite a while (longer than the average waiting time experienced in other similar type of hotels), the staff seemed unsure of the processes. Bathing towels were slightly stained. Requested for a room with river view but was rather disappointed as the view was disrupted by the construction going on by the river.

At the rate of about SGD200+ for a room, I'd consider it a comfortable and enjoyable stay. If you prefer the location (for some travelling around the city), then yeah I'd say it's alright to stay there. Otherwise nope, I probably will not return again.

Stayed at this hotel in December & January as a stopover on the way to Australia and on the way back.

The hotel is clean and efficiently run, the bedroom we had was on the small side but adequate for our 2 night stays.

The breakfast was good with plenty of selection for all tastes, We had one dinner in the hotel one night and found a limited choice and service was slow.

The location is quite good and there is a complimentary bus to take you to the main areas.

The lounge and bar areas are quite small there was no room for a pre dinner drink as all the seats were taken on the night we ate at the hotel.

The pool area was very clean and had an excellent poolside bar.

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the pool

We stayed here for 3 nights in November 2012.
The hotel is in a good location, at the top of Clark Quay, which has a great atmosphere in the evenings, with many bars and restaurants.
Our room was clean and comfortable, with a beautiful bathroom, although the shower was quite difficult to operate.
On our first morning, the lobby staff were very helpful when we asked for directions - giving us a couple of maps and showing us the location of places of interest. On our last day, we got caught in a downpour, and the reception staff were brilliant - providing us with plastic bags for our (very) wet umbrellas and shoes!
The breakfast buffet was very good, with plenty of choice, although the actual system at breakfast was disappointing - there didn't seem to be enough tables for all the hotel guests and we were kept waiting in a queue. Half an hour before the end of breakfast, the restaurant staff were already setting the tables in preparation for lunchtime, and 'encouraged' guests to hurry their breakfasts, by reminding them that the breakfast sitting was finishing soon. This explained why there weren't enough tables, and was annoying for the guests.
Overall, it is a good hotel, in a good location.

A good place to stay to see central Singapore, walking to Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, and Chinatown. View (Jan 2013) at bit marred by building work for a new cut on the river opposite, but should be fine when the work is finished. We liked the pool, and the breakfasts. Pleasant and helpful service. Needs free wifi in the rooms for 5-star rating.

Great hotel, amazing views, friendly staff, my only gripe- we asked for a smoking room, great we got it, but you cant open the windows, even a small opening window would have been good, however wouldnt put me off going again, i suppose i should be gratefull they have this facility.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel then you can watch the amazing kite shows at night.

My husband and I chose this hotel primarily for the location, and it did not disappoint. We were able to walk to the river where there are many wonderful restaurants and shops. Clarke Quay is a fun place just to walk around, especially in the evening when it has a crowded "party" feel to it. The hotel itself is lovely. Our room was on the small side, but clean and well appointed. The bathroom was a good size, clean and modern. The only negative I found was with the reception staff, and as I read the other reviews I'm not alone in this opinion.

Stayed at this hotel over christmas with my 5 years old daughter and my husband. The location of the hotel was excellent and right next to the canal, was a nice walk all the way down to the famous landmark - merlion. However, the rest were a complete disappointment ....

Booked this holiday at the very last minute, the price was on a high side which was expected during Christmas holiday. The room was small but we were expected that after reading through the review here! But our experiences of the hotel's services according to the previous reviews ( good or excellent from a lot of the reviewer ) was a totally different story !

- no greeting or smile from the staff at the check in which was fine but when we tried to ask some questions about the hotel shuttle bus and the street map, none of them care and kept passing us from one staff to another ! If they were busy with other guests, I will be happy to wait ! But we were the only people checking in at the time and they were busy 'chatting' to each other ! And this happened throughout our stay (4 days)

- no free Internet in room ( which is a bit of a surprise considered this is not a very old hotel! ). Free wifi at the lobby, but will cut you off every hours, sometimes every 10, 15 or 20 minutes!!! And you will have to walk up to the front desk to ask for a new code which printed on a little piece of paper(1 code for 1 time access only). Imagine there are a tourist group with 20 people checking in.... We gave up after a few times!

-all the above didnt really bother us but when it came down to the service we received from some of the staff, we were not happy! (Understatement) I am sorry to say that we felt the staff were treating us differently because of your nationality! Or I really hate to use the word 'race'! It became clear that they were a lot more 'willing' and 'happy' to provide services for certain groups. E.g when we were waiting to be seated for breakfast, the male waiter has a 'huge' smile on his face when greeting the family in front of us ( we got talking to the family the night before and they were from Australia ) and asking them any preference for seating - indoor or outdoor.... We were right behind them and requested an indoor table and were told we have no choice but to sit outdoor! (We can see empty tables available indoor!). So we did and thinking the table are reserved maybe! Then we bumped into that family after breakfast and were asked why didn't we sit indoor and how could we bared the heat outside! ! The table were taken up by their other group of friends who came late!

- there were a few Chinese tour group stayed at this hotel when we were there! (Even though my husband and my daughter can only speak English, we are Chinese too! ). The staff treated the other chinese in the tourist group like second class citizen! Ok they talked very loud sometimes and yes they don't speak English ! And yes the price they paid might be cheaper as booked in bulk! And does it give them right to talk behind (more like in front) of them ( sorry they thought we don't speak English and from the tourist group too! guessed they saw me helping the old lady at the buffet table whom tried to order an fried egg!). only stopped when they overheard our conversation with my daughter in ENGLISH! Too many similar incidents during our stay and I am not going to write them all !

Having been to so many countries and different hotels, we did come across some bad services but nothing as bad as what we experienced with this hotel!

And message to the general manager, I know you will 'copy' and 'paste' your standard respond feedback letter on tripadvisor! Don't bother! Spend some time to train your staff or We will be expecting a new name at the end of that letter soon!

Thank god everything outside this hotel were excellent! We will definitely visit Singapore again but no way I will return to this hotel!
