The hotel was clean and the receptions were OK. The rooms had good amenities and some food courts were near the hotel. Overall, it was OK.
I should say that the location was not very good for transpotation, but since we were 4 people, taxi rate was acceptable for us.

We arrived very late, we were housed in the block next door, the room consisted of a long room, but everything was clean and new, a wonderful stay!
Bed was soft and the tv easy to handle with English channels.

Check-in is slow,so get there early.
Ask for the new building next door.
Just 4 dollars SG by taxi to the famous Newton Food Centre, which is open late.
Wireless is not free.
Laundrette is on the fourth floor of the main building.
Be careful of the water features as you walk into the block next door, a real trip hazard, especially for children, who could drown.

Room Tip: Ask for the newer rooms in the tower block next door.

We stayed in January 2014. We arrived about 7am after an overnight flight from Rome. We did not expect to be allowed in our room at this time, but surprisingly, we were, which was great as we were very tired. We had booked a triple room for my husband, my teenage son and myself and were upgraded to the "Royal Residences" in the adjacent block. The room was very spacious, almost new and had a kitchenette, balcony and large bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. The room was actually great! There was a construction site next door which was very noisy during the day but as we were mostly out was not a great problem. It was nice and quiet at night. I did not find the buffet breakfast much fun. There seemed to be a never ending stream of large tour groups in the hotel so it was always very busy. The breakfast area was far too small for the number of guests and it was hard for the staff to keep the food supplied, hard to get a table, very noisy and chaotic. The food choice was not great either, mainly asian dishes. The location was quite good, less than 5 minutes walk to an MRT station and with several bus stops nearby also. Overall the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, but at times inefficient. The room was great, no so much the breakfast.

Room Tip: The "Royal Residences" are apartment style rooms in a separate, new building. Our room was...

This is hardly a 4* hotel, I would rate it a 2* at he MOST, inefficient staff at reception, dirty furnishings in the reception area, the breakfast awful unless you like asian food to start off your day. The only positive is that it is conveniently located with a bus stop outside the premises that will take you into Central Singapore within minute, apart from that I would give this hotel a big MISS!!

Room Tip: I don't think there would be any good rooms in this establishment!!

We stayed at this hotel as a two night stop over between Australia and Sri Lanka. It did it's job as we were hardly in our room as we were busy site seeing etc. The rooms are tired looking and need updating but they were clean. Buses stop right out side the hotel so it is cheap transport around town, but having said that the Taxis in Singapore are so cheap you are only saving a few dollars. The pool is cool but does the job. There is a shopping mall around the corner where you can get a good priced breakfast or lunch.

I stayed in Hotel Royal for six days. This hotel is a two-star one, in dire need of an upgrade. The ambience is very 70s, but not in a good way!
The corridors have a peculiar dank smell. The carpet of my room looked as though it had not been vacuumed for at least six months. The cleaning staff forgot to replace toiletries on two days. One one occasion, the paper packet contained a wet shower-cap. I shudder to think where it came from! The towels were torn, as was the wallpaper in the room I occupied. The location is okay - a few bus-stops away fromOrchard Road, and round the corner from the Novena station on MRT's red line.
Would I return? Not so sure.

This hotel is excellent for the basics. Your rooms are just bed, small desk, TV and nice bathroom. Nothing fancy. Buffet breakfast is terrible, there are only Western choices and even then mostly fried stuff.

The location is excellent however, 10 min walk to Newton Circus, close to MRT, and the station (Novena) is only 3 or 4 stops away from Orchard. If you're looking for an affordable place in the middle of Singapore this is the one.
