Owner description: No visit to Sentosa is complete without meeting its most famous, 37-metre tall resident, the Sentosa Merlion. The legendary Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body - as a guardian of prosperity which personifies Singapore's history as an important seaport. The lion head depicts the folklore of Prince Sang Nila Utama's discovery of lion (singa) and City (pura) while the fish tail symbolises the fishing village of 'Temasek', also known as 'sea-town' in Javanese. Set foot in the Merlion's mouth to get up close and personal with the legend. But don't stop till you get to the crown! At 60 metres above sea level, you will actually be seeing Singapore through the perspective of the Guardian of Prosperity. Come soak up the 360⁰ commanding view and bask in the aura of this endearing national symbol. You'll see why legends, myths and stories all point to this regal creature for the swift recovery of Singapore's economy from the Asian financial crisis.

“Spectacular !!!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Merlion at Sentosa is Bigger and Better than the original one at Singapore !!
The lighting-effects in the evening are quite-dazzling, the walk-up and view from the mouth is also beautiful. The Gardens behind the Merlion with its' lighting and decor ideas is a great place to relax and hang out

“Nothing much to see”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

A short film about how Singapore got its name was shown prior to entering the main chamber at the foot of the Merlion. Souvenir dollar coins are given to each guest. You have to choose one area to insert the coin and a stub will be given to you wherein you can claim a souvenir at the gift shop.

After a short elevator ride, you need to climb a set of stairs, either to the left or right, depending on whether you'd want to visit the head or the mouth of the Merlion. The usual photo op awaits guests at the mouth and your photo will be available for purchase at the gift shop. Nothing much to see especially on a hot day.

“Love the Merlion”

I love the Merlion, both this one and the one in Singapore. I love how it lights up in the evening, a real symbol of Singapore.

“A great icon of Singapore”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

An icon of Singapore but there is really nothing much to this Tower as the mythical creature of the sea with half lion head and a body of a fish. At night, the eyes would shot out laser lights.

“Seen It - Photographed It - Brought The Keyring Souvenirs”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Sit back for a bit of history .......The Merlion is the official guardian and protector of the city of Singapore. The Merlion features the head of a lion and the body of a fish is a symbol that represents both strength, and Singapore's strong relationship with the sea. While there is more than one Merlion in Singapore, the one located on Sentosa Island is an experience you can't afford to miss. The Merlion and Singapore are so closely related that the two share a common creation myth. The story begins with a young prince named Parameswara, who was one of the grandsons of Alexander the Great. Prince Parameswara had many famous treasures, but the most famous of them all was a jeweled crown that was said to be part of the treasures of Solomon. The prince was returning home from a voyage at sea one day when he noticed a new, unfamiliar island in the distance. Upon his return, he decided to return to the island for colonization, and gained his father's approval to put together a sailing party to return to the new island. Unfortunately, the gods had other ideas. As soon as the ship left it's home port, it encountered the most violent storm that any of the veteran sailors had ever encountered. All were sure of certain doom, but Prince Parameswara declared that he knew exactly what to do. According to the Merlion myth, the prince calmly walked to the front of the ship and hurled his famous crown into the see as a gift to the gods. The see was instantly calm, allowing the group smooth sailing to the island they were destined for. When the men arrived at the island, they were greeted at the beach by a fierce lion. Again, all were sure of certain death, but the prince proclaimed that he knew exactly what to do. As Parameswara reached for his blade, he unintentionally locked eyes with the lion. Each instantly gained a mutual understanding of the other, and the lion disappeared into the jungle, never to be seen again
Well there you go ...... a lovely story and my family and friends loved the Merlion souvenirs.
