“Images of Singapore Museum”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

We came across the Images of Singapore Museum while visiting Sentosa Island in Singapore. What a great museum. At a cost of $5.00 this museum is definately value for money for all the family and a must see attraction on the island.

“Was this supposed to be a joke?”
Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

First we were ushered into a small room with some nice curios and maps. A digital sign above some doors counted down to a show. When it reached zero...it went back to 7 minutes and started counting down again. Eventually someone appeared and told us there was a special screening and if we didn't want to wait, we could go out the unmarked side door to the rest of the exhibit. Fair enough, if the show was anything like other Singaporean museum films, it would be bloody awful.

So I went to the rest of the exhibits, which were a huge number of embarassingly bad statue/diorama scenes, with terrible multimedia, like shrieking Chinese women, and terrible interactive bits (the sign told me to pull the monkey's tail, BUT WHERE WAS THE MONKEY'S TAIL? Now I'll never know what happens when you pull the monkey's tail). Possibly the stupidest attraction on Sentosa, and that's saying something.

“There's an interesting and well-thought through part sandwiched by tacky and / or propaganda-ish parts”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

This is worth a visit if you have some time to kill, there's a short cinema-show at the start that's just cringe-worthy, Singapore is the best place in the world, everyone lives in harmony / peach type thing, then there is an interesting section with waxwork figures that tells the story of the different ethnicities that make up the state's population today - Only things we didn't like with this is that there is too much noise being blared out by some of the displays which makes it distracting if you're looking at something else nearby, plus there was genuine footage of the Japanese invasion of Manchuria (what does this have to do with Singapore anyway?) playing that included people being buried alive!!! In a family-orientated museum this is totally inappropriate!

The timeline of history stops at the end of the war, which is a shame as the full story of Singapore's Malaysian independence and subsequent economic miracle is almost totally omitted! Instead there are some interesting displays on Chinese and Indian wedding and child-related customs and rituals, plus a confusing display of photographs of various families - it's not clear why they are there.

Overall, the museum is interesting in parts but could be so much better.
