“Perfect Hotel for Families”
Reviewed October 21, 2011

We stayed in a family room on the 3rd floor (which is really the 2nd floor) overlooking the swimming pool. It was a spacious room with a king bed and a queen futon as well as a balcony with seating. I was expecting an outdated hotel from earlier reviews, but this hotel has been beautifully renovated and our room was very modern.

The kids club was the best we've encountered anywhere in the world. It's free for kids aged 5+ and is open from 9:30 am - 9:00 pm which is incredibly convenient! They even take the kids for lunch and dinner to the hotel restaurant at no cost! Their program is structured, with different hourly activities indoors and outdoors. The club has a 3-story indoor treehouse slide and the pool has a splash park and three water slides. They also provided circus activities on the trapeze, face painting, and many other activities. The staff were fantastic and my daughter never wanted to leave!

The hotel is conveniently located near the bus line to get to anywhere on Sentosa -- only 1 stop away from popular activities, including the Luge which was our favorite! The concierge was very helpful with directions and reservations.

The gym and the pool were fantastic....though I did see an on-duty lifeguard texting on his mobile so watch your own kids in the pools!

The only con was the chaotic breakfast buffet. Two out of the four mornings at breakfast, our table was given to another family when we were filling our plates! Too many staff seating guests and not paying attention to which tables were already assigned. I hope they can fix the chaos! The buffet selection was only average as compared to other hotels.

The gorgeous facilities, clean spacious room and super kids club are grand enough to deserve an excellent rating!

Room Tip: The family room is big enough for a family of four. I would recommend a poolview room on the first f...

I recentley had the pleasure of staying at the Shangri-La's on Sentosa for my 25th wedding Aniversary. The staff were exceptional on every level. I have never met such accommodating, helpful and delightfully friendly employees! Our room was so clean and serviced twice a day. I want to return there next time I visit Singapore. Loved it! Not a big deal, but the only thing I would say is, buy better hairdryers for the rooms. They were not very powerful. The country I live in could learn so much about customer service from these
people. Thank you Shangri-La's.

Room Tip: Pick a Deluxe room facing the beach and pool. Keep yr door closed because the monkies like to get in...

Excellent hotel with professional service quality in the infrastructure and even on the beach. Beautiful setting with beach access and large swimming pools. The environment is very quiet and far enough from the other attractions on Sentosa to have a nice rest after a busy day downtown. The main con is the distance with Orchard Road or with the financial district that make it a bit difficult. Otherwise the staff is very attentive and professional and the breakfast is really comparable to the one at Hyatt or other five stars downtown, with that extra touch of resort atmosphere that of course attracts families with kids. Very good value for money. The hotel is being renovated.

We were looking for a staycation destination, and the Rasa Sentosa came up tops. Renovations completed in 2010, and the hotel rooms are modern and new. The hotel has its own beach and a variety of pools, always a good thing when traveling with children.

A big plus is the kids' Cool zone where you can leave your kids to have some private time. The restaurant buffet proved to be surprisingly good, comparable to Shangri-La's The Line but is way cheaper. Compared to 5 years back, there is a marked improvement in the variety and quality of the food. Snow crabs we had were sweet and fresh.

The staff are friendly and helpful, even the room cleaners will go out of their way to accede to any requests we had.

The hotel is pricey and we spent about $600 for a family of 3, where our child ate for free (all kids below 6 eat for free). But our 3 year old loved the huge bed, and the flatscreen TV attached to the wall. She also found plenty to eat at the dedicated kids corner in the restaurant.

We had to keep our balcony doors shut at all times and avoid leaving anything in the balcony, thanks to the marauding peacocks and gang of macaques that frequent the area. We stayed in Room 917, on the 9th floor, and watched the macaques go from one balcony to the other looking for breakfast. They look cute and our child was happy watching them from inside the room, keeping a close eye on their sharp nails and teeth.

Needless to say, it is best to avoid the rainy season when choosing this hotel because there is very little to do other than outdoor activities or visit the underwater world which is just outside the hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of either the garden or sea.

We spent my husband's 50th birthday at the Shangri-La at Sentosa and it was a perfect weekend getaway for the whole family. Both children, ages 5 and 11 were well-entertained. Large well-heated pool, water play area and water slides kept children happy. When it got too hot outside, into the Kid's Club (Cool Zone) where they played games, did crafts and enjoyed activities with other children. My 11-year old loved going to the arcade as well. We got a Garden View room which was great since it was a short walk to the pool and also led to the gardens in the back overlooking the water. There are bikes and kayaks by the beach area. My husband and I especially enjoyed the chance to have our delicious buffet breakfast and dinner by ourselves while the kids ate their meals separately, supervised by the Cool Zone staff. Everyone had a big smile and was very helpful, we loved our stay here. Only gripes: a little too expensive and my husband and I woke up with sore backs! Is it the beds? or just our age...sigh!

My husband and our two kids aged 4 and 9 stayed at this hotel for two weeks and all enjoyed our stay very much. As we didn't arrive to the hotel untill about 3am - staff made the check-in process very easy, about five minutes as we had previously emailed them our passport information which was great so we could all go straight to sleep. Our family pool view room was beautiful - a tad bit small however but was fantastic. The beds and pillows amazingly comfortable and felt like you were floating on a cloud. The kids enjoyed checking out the monkeys every morning and evening who go from balcony to balcony looking for things people have left on their balconies.

Breakfast was simply stunning - everything you could want and more, our kids could not get enough of the children's buffet. All the staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and attentive which was fantastic. The pool area is fantastic and we enjoyed many hours swimming and relaxing by the pool. The pool is generally always a nice temperature.

We were invited to a welcoming party a couple of nights after being at the hotel which made us feel very welcome. There was free snacks, wine and beer as well as popcorn and mini incecreams for the kids. They also had ballons for the kids. The kids loved it and enojoyed meeting and playing with the other kids at the hotel. We felt that this was a really nice gesture by the hotel and was very appreciated.

My only criticism of the hotel was the food and service at some of the restaurants. We had a meal at Trapizza on our first day. The service was not friendly at all - they appeared to be very short staffed and even though we wrote down our order we did not get a drink we ordered even after asking for it a second time. Also when we had the buffet at the silver shells restaurant I ordered a diet coke and was charged 6.50 which I thought was outrageous (there was no drink menu given). Also when we ordered room service they did forget one of our orders and we had to ring up to get it sent in. The food is also very pricey and we didn't quite feel it was worth the price but have found that this is not that uncommon in five star hotels.

The night before we left we were provided with a bon voyage cake which was very delicious and very thoughtful which we really enjoyed. We also recieved some welcoming cakes and fruit when we arrived which was also nice. The shuttle bus to the harbour front is excellant - we used it almost everyday, even multiple times a day and never had to wait long for the bus. We would go into harbour front which is also next door to Vivo city to have dinner and lunch.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel - we did not want to leave and would reccomend this hotel for families if you can afford it as it is quite pricey but worth it.
