This was a great way to introduce the children to history and science at the same time while not boring them with stuff they don’t like. Really enjoyed it especially the Jewel of Muscat actual ship there.
A great place for families, young and adults. Very interesting history and galleries pictures and stories are well depicted inside with beautiful enactment of olden days history and many interesting display of the Maritime trade etc etc. Very educational.
The museum itself is just average. The displays are replicas, not real antiques. However, I think this is a good place to avoid the heat & humid weather of Singapore because it's indoor & fully air-conditioned.
I only recommend th Thyphoon Theatre, which is a very interesting way to enter the SEA Aquarium. I don't want to spoil the surprise, u should experience it urself 😊
Meh... if you absolutely love anything maritime then it’s worth a visit. Best part honestly was that it was air conditioned and gave a reprieve from the heat and humidity. It was nice and clean, but very small, nothing interactive & can’t believe you had to pay extra for the 15 min “Typhoon experience” - that should have been included in the admission cost. There were literally NO pirates in the pirate part of the museum, not even a mannequin in a pirate outfit. I had high hope but was not impressed 😕
They have a few interesting exhibits, but most of the display consists of reading notices about the maritime silk road (I do find the subject fascinating). I just felt I could do this in more comfort at home, using the Internet! If you’re disabled you’ll have a dreadful time getting between the 2 floors.
While on level 1, I needed the toilet. In normal buildings not difficult. It started a nightmare saga here. 2 staff members said the toilets were on that level, near the entrance, 1 said it was outside. Staff didn’t have time to help us find the toilet, and we couldn’t see any signs.
We decided to go to the basement where we knew there were toilets. For safety I need an elevator. We found one, it was roped off! There was no notice saying what we should do. We managed to find a staff member who called for help. We were then escorted to the elevator, which takes you out of the museum and then enter again on the other floor! That’s why you need an escort.
To conclude our visit to the museum, we went through the whole farce again. So if any member of your party can’t use an elevator, avoid. Otherwise it’s OK, but don’t expect too much, just lots of standing and reading about our fascinating maritime heritage.
It is a interesting and interactive journey where one will get to learn about the different type of maritime vehicles, the equipments they used, the reason the countries traded and the items that they traded for and also the cultures of it.
