Resort World Sentosa - Beach Villas™
Reviewed May 24, 2013

I manage to stay in one of the Ocean Suites this May & oh god it is beautiful. The personal view of the aquarium drew my attention so badly I could stay up the whole night staring at it. Attached with the bedroom, waking up didnt seem to be a problem. A living room & an outdoor jacuzzi is located on the 2nd level, which is ideal for gatherings, celebrations & romantic times. I rang up a few friends & had an impromptu party. The reaction time given per request I made were moderate (Towels, ice, etc). Initailly I thought the Ocean Suites are under Equarius Hotel which leads to a misconception trying to search it. It can be very misleading for interested parties, moreover, the reception counter is shared among Beach Villas & Equarius Hotel. Maybe the management will like to look into this. Given said that, I'll want to stay here again.

Disappointing. Terrible. Appalling are just of the innumerable words that i can use to describe the service at Resorts World Sentosa Beach Villas/Equarius Hotel (they are the same place).

Having paid an extortionate amount of money the words extortion came to mind when describing the worst hotel experience i have ever had in Singapore. This was for our anniversary and was supposed to be special, relaxing and romantic..... instead it turned out to be simply terrible and i would advise you not under any circumstances to stay here. We are both Singaporean PR's and therefore constantly take "stay-cations" in Singapore, usually staying at the supreme Capella....so they have just alienated us and our friends and anyone else i can tell!!!

First impressions are everything? Well the Beach Villa Ocean Suites, one of the most expensive rooms possible at Resorts World and the most expensive at Beach Villas is in a car park! Yes that's right you go through a car park to reach it and leave the room to go through a car park to go anywhere else!

The idea of the room is that you are in the aquarium and your bedroom window is the aquarium. That bit was great! However this is why you would pay such an amazing amount of money the idea promoted by the hotel is that you enjoying dinner/breakfast in the room with the privacy and space of watching the fish fly by, float by and enjoy the tranquility. This idea would work if they had a restaurant/kitchen which could serve any food or drink!!!

The dinner menu comprised of very little and everything sent from a Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) service kitchen serving all the staff and all hotels in RWS not a hotel restaurant kitchen. The wine list had 4 wines, 2 white, 2 red. So we abandoned this idea to enjoy the incredibly good Joel Robouchon's L'Atelier at RSW. The service there was exquisite and very French (there may have been a connection between the two...) and everything that the service at RWS Beach Villas/Equarius Hotel was not.

The worst was yet to come though....

Having missed dinner gazing at our aquarium view we decided to enjoy a romantic breakfast in room gazing at the aquarium. We ordered at 8.15am......by 9am the food still had not come. At 9.00 i rang to complain. I was told, and i kid you not, that because "other guests had also ordered breakfast (at breakfast time) the kitchen could not cope with the 4 orders it has received...."and therefore there would be a delay of 15 mins. At 9.15, i rang back...to be told that the kitchen was still overwhelmed and because our room was a long way from the kitchen (through the car park...) it would take a while to reach us. At 9.30 i rang back...at 9.40 we gave up.....

We rang to cancel the order and ask for a duty manager to be told there was none on duty.....we then told them to find one as we were coming up to complain and to use the cafe to have breakfast at the Equarius Hotel. They amazingly found a manager (although i use that term loosely), Irene Leong, who was a useful a chocolate teapot. She did not listen and kept offering us things we already had as part of the room and no refund. She seemed obvious to the fact that we had paid so much money for the room.

We then had a terrible breakfast at the Cafe called Forest at Equarius (they manage and run the Beach Villas Ocean Suites). Unbelievably they were closing and told us to "hurry up"....bearing in mind that we had waited almost 2 hours for breakfast and were being treated as if we had paid $100 not almost $2k this capped the day and we simply said no!

I haven't even mentioned the fact that the aquarium pump is next door to the suites and pulsates all day and night like an over excited air con unit gone mad or the fact that it's quicker to walk through the car park to reach anywhere rather than use the extremely slow buggy service.

When my partner, who was paying, complained to the Singaporean staff and especially Irene Leong, they simply did not comprehend anything. They did not know that we were in their most expensive room and already had free breakfast/aquarium tickets/water park tickets as guess what they offered us in compensation for our terrible experience....yes, free breakfast/aquarium tickets and water park tickets!!!

The fact that we were in the top room that cost the most amount of money simply did not register with them. We were treated no different than had we been in the cheapest room in RWS!!

The coup des gras came when we checked out and my partner was offered dinner back at the cafe Forest (not even a restaurant) that we were forced to have breakfast buffet at!!! The manager Irene Leong failed to listen when we first complained, when complained a second time and when we checked out and no less than 5 times offered us dinner at the cafe Forest at the place where we had already said we would never come back ever for anything!!!!

We asked for a part refund several times and were declined several times, merely being offered more dinners! For four people this time!!! Why would we want to inflict our friends to this terrible food and atrocious experience?

LISTEN to your guests, especially the ones paying an EXTORTIONate amount of money for an incredibly disappointing service and experience. Do not go here if you have any sense whatsoever or you will regret it. They are a rip off and have not heard the last of our efforts to get a refund!

Room Tip: Don't chose any room, don't go here, go to the Capella and buy a separate ticket for the aqu...

I called up the Resorts World Sentosa hotline and was shocked when the Guest Reservations officer announced that all of their beach villas were fully booked till Dec 2012. Fortunately, I did not believe her and looked up another website where I secured a 1-bedroom villa for a night.

The beach villas are located adjacent to the Equarius RSW hotel within the RSW complex. You drop off your bags and register at the Equarius check-in counter. Thereafter, you are escorted by buggy to your designated beach villa for an in-villa check in. My friendly butler was there waiting for me with a welcome drink, and check-in proceeded uneventfully.

The 1-bedroom villa was of a semi-detached configuration, with another adjacent to it...it was NOT a fully detached villa enclosed within its own compound. The interior of the 1-bedroom villa consisted of a spacious bedroom, connected to a bathroom with an outdoor patio and jacuzzi. Regretfully, there was no separate sitting area. The bathroom had a large tub, as well as a rainshower stall with a separate WC. Toiletries were from ESPA. Instead of a private pool, you had to share a common free-form swimming lagoon with the other villas. Each villa had its own outdoor jacuzzi although it is NOT private as the patio and jacuzzi are open to view from your neighbours. Moreover, the beach villa is a misnomer as there is no beach. The ESPA spa and gym were NOT open during my stay in Jul 2012 (this point was sadly NOT mentioned by RSW).

Breakfast was at the Forest restaurant over at the Equarius. The buffet spread was mediocre but they did offer you the option of ala carte orders. Service was excellent however.

Strangely, I had a problem with millipedes in my villa bathroom. However, the service from my butler was stellar! It is also worthwhile to occasionally forgo the buggy ride to walk among the lushly landscaped grounds.

Room Tip: The RSW Reservations team may not be aware of what you are entitled to under Agoda.com bookings (e.g...

Had a stay with the newly opened one bedroom Beach Villa and it was pretty awesome.

Good things first:

1. The room was big and spacious with a large TV and nespresso machine and other stuff.
2. Bed was really good with the goose pillows and down duvet.
3. Own jacuzzi by the pool and a "private" section of the pool with pool chairs.
4. Clean rooms.
5. Speedy and good housekeeping.
6. Newly opened gym with good facilities.
7. Buggy service to-fro villas (good and bad)
8. Peaceful and quiet.
9. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating.
10. Good work desk and internet connection.

On to the few not so good points:

1. A few things were actually missing during the first day of stay (e.g. pool chairs were missing cushion, bath scrub was not there, complimentary fruits lacked plates and cutleries for us to cut and eat it.) These stuffs showed up on the second day of stay after housekeeping, so it probably means it was overlooked on the first day due to hasty cleaning up of room.

2.The room is probably too big for one centralized air-con, so do turn on your ceiling at night to feel cooler.
3. Shower room lacked ventilation. It is big but becomes a lil suffocating if you tend to have long shower sessions.
4. Few minor defects or poorly designed features (doesn't affect comfort of stay)
5. Jacuzzi is a lil over-chlorinated.
6. Okay breakfast.

The in-between and other points:

1. Location (good for some, bad for the others)

Equarius and Beach Villa is located in the furthest of RWS and the carpark entrance was not open yet during my stay, hence you gotta enter from Hotel Michael and go all the way to the Equarius lobby through the basement carpark. To get to your villa, you can either walk or take the buggy service provided. Shuttle service is also available to other hotels within RWS. Depending on your purpose of visit, Beach Villa's location can be either an excellent or of inconvenience to you.

In conclusion, the stay at Beach Villa was pleasant and great for a peaceful getaway.
