Coming from the hospitality industry, this hotel is to me a real disappointment. This is by far the first time I am writing a bad review on a hotel. I booked 2 rooms for a 2d1n family staycation on 9 Sep. It was also in conjunction with my 10th wedding anniversary. And I mentioned this in my reservation.
Usually in other 5 star hotels where we have stayed in, whether local or overseas.. there would have been special little surprises like a small cake or chocolates.. or even just a standard card offering warm wishes. Its just a little gesture that makes guests feel good, and enhances their whole experience at the hotel. But I suppose not at this hotel.
The journey from carpark to hotel can be pretty daunting especially when travelling with old folks and young kids. The check in was pretty smooth, despite the queue. The front desk personnel was quite nice. I asked for connecting rooms but there were none available, due to high occupancy. But she managed to place us on the same level.. on the 6th floor. And offered us a 1pm check out the following day.
The corridor was so long that to get from one room to another was a chore. (Our rooms were 619 and 659). The in-room amenities are really not up to 5 star standards. The TV has limited channels, I think only local channels. And the remote controls for both rooms are quite bad.. we had to practically shove them right in front of the TV to switch channels or adjust the volume. I called housekeeping to request for a crib, which was sent up quite promptly.
There are no bathrobes.. only 2 bath towels in each room. And they are rather small, and the quality pales in comparison to other 5 star hotels.
Very basic toiletries, just ok only.. The toilet is quite clean, apart from a few strands of hair on the floor and toilet seat. I loved the vibrant colours of the wall tiles and floor. The shower curtain was clean but smelled a bit musky. Aircon can't be adjusted lower than 21degrees.
The following morning, it was raining quite a bit. . So I called front desk to ask if I could extend the check out time for just one of our rooms till 3pm. The associate who took my call said that they were running full. I asked if it can be arranged I were to pay for the extension. She checked and told me that they were able to offer me a final extension free of charge. And went on to say that I should understand, hotel policy states that checkout time is at 12pm.. and that they were nice enough to offer me a 1pm checkout initially. The unnecessary nagging put me off, because I only asked for an extension once. Wasn't even whining away.. and as a matter of fact offered to pay for my extra time there. If you are not able to honour my request, then its fine. Skip the lecture. I immediately checked out at 12pm, we dumped our bags in the cars and then headed to USS.
Next time I plan to stay in Sentosa. . I will very likely stay in Shangri La, where I can indulge and enjoy a five star experience.
