“An island all for yourself”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

The first time I visited Sumilon Island, I was taken away! It is a different way to experience the beach because you have the island for yourself as they control the number of people who go there for the day. It doesnt get over-crowded where you have to fight for a spot on the benches and could not even enjoy your swim because of the people.

I have not stayed overnight in the resort because it is too pricey! But day use which is Php 1,500 ($38) on weekdays and Php 2,000 ($50) on weekends is not bad at all. The package is inclusive of use of the facilities -- kayaks, boats, lagoon, infinity pool, jacuzzi, beach and cottages, snorkelling gears and nature walk in the island. They also have pool tables, different board games, beach volleyball and table tennis. It also includes a buffet lunch which is really filling plus they have seafoods - a lot of it! They also serve delicious pastas and sandwiches for lunch (pay separately).

The staff are also friendly and helpful. One of my visits here is for a company team-building and the coordinator who is based in Cebu City was able to arrange all my needs to the island staff as if I talked to them directly.

However though, the beach area of the island is a bit rocky so you can either swim at the other side where the moving sandbar is. But definitely it is still a great way to enjoy your Saturday!

“Somewhat misleading pictures leads to a pricey island”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

The pictures of Sumilon island looks breathtaking! When you first arrive you come to a nice pictureesque sandbank. We where going to stay the day at Maribago bluewater resort, on the other side of the island.

On the other side the beach was not nice at all. Big waves and sharps rock, so we just spent the day by the pool.

“Feels like being in a remote paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

This exclusive resort is an islet close to the bigger Cebu island. From Cebu City, one can take a bus going to Oslob at the South Bus Terminal even as early as 4 AM. Ask the driver to drop you off at the gate leading to the wharf of the resort. From there, you go down a steep road to the parking lot and office. The pumpboat or banca in the dialect will pick you up at a designated schedule, so I'd suggest you book your day tour in advance. There's an old lighthouse in Sumilon that can be reached by hiking, and there's a lagoon where one can kayak. The cabanas along the shore are perfect for a short nap or for reading a book. When we were there, the waves were big so we didn't do much swimming. As it was a holiday, the line to the lunch buffet was particularly long. But despite the crowd, it was still considerably quiet and secluded.

“$$$ expensive!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

we paid P2000 each for the trip over there (boats run 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30am, 2.30pm and 5.30pm... It included a beautiful buffet lunch and the use of the snorkel gear (not including flippers which cost P500 extra!) for P100 you can also rent a locker.

Overall the lunch was good, the coral were beautiful (along with the fish) however considering the price i expected to get fins included with the snorkel gear. BRING YOUR OWN - poor quality gear i had to swap mine about 4 times and my Bf 3 which was very frustrating when all we wanted was to swim with the coral and fish.

I honestly think if you are planning on snorkelling to have your own gear - the rental gear kept leaking. My Bf and I had to repeatedly return to the snorkel rental area (a long way from where you snorkel the virgin coral)

We were warned not to go to Sumilon island just using a local - apparently there have been incidents in the past.

“An Island of Activities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Sumilon Island, a Maribago Bluewater project, is a 10-minute pump-boat ride from Oslob, Cebu, Philippines located at the Northern tip of Cebu province. It has been developed to cater to the adventurous needs of both local and foreign tourists. Since it is an island separated by clear blue waters from the main island of Cebu province, the beach front is great for swimming/snorkel and scuba diving. It is so amazing to see colorful school of fishes abundantly swimming near the shore line. The Lagoon is also another good activity while enjoying both the sea & land breeze. Trekking the entire island will only take about 50 minutes, depending on the pace. The entire island is a sight, with three main islands within its vintage view >>> the islands of mainland Cebu, Siquijor, & Northern Negros. Cost is well proportionate to the enjoyment! Buffet Lunch menu is also well planned..
