Dos Mestizos sounded like the perfect place to celebrate our special occasion. After reading Trip Advisor, we made a reservation in person (as there was no reply to our email sent a week before). The evening started really well - I had a mojito and my husband had a marguerita - they were delicious - up there with the best we've every had.
We then started our meal with chorizo and octopus. The chorizo was homemade - ok - but lacked chorizo flavour. The octopus was thinly chopped pieces of octopus that had been marinating for so long that they tasted like tuna. The table next to us were also surprised when the unrecognisable octopus arrived. We were given a complimentary basket of bread - which was slightly sweet - but a very generous amount - with oil and pesto dips.
For main course we ordered the famous paella (which the waiters remind you needs 30minutes to cook) - chosing the meat and seafood combination. There was a generous amount of seafood (clams, mussels, prawns) with chicken and chorizo. Portion size (we chose the small, serves 2-3) was great and more than enough for us both. Unfortunately the paella just lacked flavour - no garlic notes - just very bland.
After another delicious mojito and local beer we headed home a little disappointed.
In terms of ambience. The waiters were all very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very hot as the air con was not on and the two fans moved around the hot air.
Suggest, go for a drink or two.
