My husband and I stayed 5 nights at Discovery Shores as a 2nd honeymoon/'babymoon' before our first baby arrives in October. Funnily enough there were about 4 other pregnant women staying at the resort. This goes to show how relaxing the place is. We were very well taken care of. Staff are very polite and helpful. Poolside and beach-side butler service is great. They bring you iced water without request and various complimentary snacks throughout the day, as well as laying out your towel and (oddly) folding your clothes for you when you go for a swim. We spent most of our time on the beach lounges which are located behind a privacy screen. We weren't sure if the screen is for protection from the wind, hawkers or both but it was effective for both these purposes. Some days they had 4 beds outside the screen right on the beach which we tried to nab. The security guard keeps an eye on the hawkers so you can relax without people bothering you.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom premiere suite which has the bedroom upstairs and lounge room downstairs. Good points were cleanliness, comfy bed, the shower (rainfall showerhead), cable TV (English channels are mostly U.S. programming). There is also a jacuzzi and lounges on the upstairs balcony but we only used it once, preferring the main pool and beach. Bad points: small chaise style lounge (not very good for watching TV as a couple) and the air-conditioning in the bedroom blew straight onto our heads. It's too hot not to have it on so we got used to it.

The quality of lunch and dinner at the Sands restaurant was very good with local and western choices. Because we spent most time on the beach lounges we ordered from Platitos tapas menu a lot but you can also order from the Sands and get it delivered to you. We loved the tuna ceviche and chicken toasts for lunch. We also tried Indigo which is their premiere restaurant. Again, the food was very good but it is located off to the side of the Sands, separated by a curtain, and isn't that much better than the Sands for the price. I'm sure it's better in the dry season when you can sit outside on the deck. Breakfast was the most disappointing. They offer a mix of eastern and western options. Eggs can be cooked to your liking which is nice but accompaniments like bacon, sausages and hash browns were very oily and the range on offer was very inconsistent leaning more towards local cuisine. The juice and milk is on ice but because of the heat doesn't stay cold for long so I avoided the milk. There is also no orange or apple juice with only mango, guava or pandan juice on offer.

We were staying towards the front of the resort close to the restaurants/bar so it was a bit of a steep climb up to the back entrance to get the shuttle service. The shuttle is very reliable however. It's available on demand and we only had to wait a maximum of 5 minutes. The shuttle can take you to the local shops at D'mall. There are more food options there but don't expect great shopping or air-conditioning. It's an outside mall. There is a Budget Mart there where you can buy snacks, etc.

All in all, if you're looking for a romantic getaway or family beach getaway Discover Shores is a great place to choose.

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the front (beach side) of the resort

Dear Renners083,

Many thanks for your post!

We are glad that you have made Discovery Shores your “home away from home” during your brief stay at our tropical paradise. We look forward to welcoming you back with your new family. We are very eager to make a good “first impression” with your baby.

Warm regards,

Staying in Discovery Shores was definitely worth it.lived up to its rating as world class resort..staffing were very courteous and helpful..service was A++..from the moment you step out the airport until you get to the hotel..they take care of you.. we arrived earlier but they graciously let us use a room till ours was ready ..now that's going the extra mile without missing a beat....location is one of the best..not too far from the action in the main beach yet not too near to be crowding..Amazing accommodation for people who wants quality service..easy to set up any activities with the concierge without the hassle of haggling with solicitors since its more or less the same price..they have preferred vendors that are great to deal with..We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and the view was awesome with very spacious living areas and complete amenities ...they were just awarded the 2012 Top Hotel Spa in Asia when we stayed there...I'm not surprised...I highly recommend it..we're definitely coming back and stay here again.

My wife and I spent a couple of days at Discovery Shores during the 4th of July week using their Pure Beach Bliss promotion. I can tell you that our stay was the best we’ve ever experienced for a beach resort! We arrived at Caticlan by car and called the resort so that they can pick us up at the Jetty Port. Archie came and picked us up and we were introduced to the service that defined Discovery Shores Boracay. He was very attentive and took us to the private Discovery Shores boat that was our ride to Boracay. We didn’t have to worry about our luggage because Archie took care of that along with the rest of the “boat crew”. The boat was air-conditioned and had a pretty attendant (forgot her name) who provided us with a drink and snack along with a refreshing cold towel to wipe our travel blues away.
It was a short boat ride to the island followed by a longer ride on the shuttle through the back streets of Boracay before we got to the hotel. We got to see the areas where the people of Boracay lived and how they lived. It was eye-opening considering the luxuries that Boracay offered.
Getting checked-in in the room is a very good process and the waiting food/treats already in the room were a big plus. We immediately availed of our foot wash/massage that was offered and Tess did not disappoint. Thank you, Tess!
The junior suite in the upper level was large/spacious and had a partial view of the beach/ocean. The bathroom was big and clean and the amenities were more than adequate. They clean the room twice a day. We were celebrating our anniversary and on our last night, the staff had sprinkled the bedroom with rose petals and created a towel origami of two swans kissing. Very nice touch!
We had all our meals at the hotel and we were very satisfied with them all. We ate at the Indigo Restaurant as well as the Sands Restaurant. Both places served us good sumptuous meals and the Sandbar Beach Bar gave us the best drinks. As always the service was great! Thanks to Joy and Rocky and Elmer and a host of other food-service attendants that Discovery Shores can be proud of for the services they provided to the guests.
We pretty much stayed at the resort and didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else. We enjoyed the beach lounge area where Gen and her coworkers were very attentive… cold drinks, frozen strawberries, sunglasses cleaned, etc. Service was exceptional and so was the security. I also had a great massage at the spa…very relaxing (slept through most of it!)
Kudos goes to Leeds, the manager, for running the hotel the way he does, for the teamwork he has created, and for taking the time to talk to guests and making sure that they are welcome. We sure felt that way. The hotel certainly deserves to be in the top 10 best hotels in the world (in 2012) as reported by Travel and Leisure.

Dear nowakaadventuretravel,

Thank you very much for your post and your recommendation.

Our associates will be proud knowing that they were able to make another guest very happy. Your gracious comment about our spa echoes the latest issue of Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best that mentioned Discovery Shores as the No. 1 Hotel Spa in Asia.

The World’s Best Awards also gave Discovery Shores the No. 2 rank in its Top Resorts In Asia list and No. 5 over all in its poll of top 100 hotels in the world. However, our greatest reward is being able to make a great impression on our guests and to be able to give them unforgettable experiences in Boracay and in the Philippines.

We hope to see you again at Discovery Shores.

I just got back from the best Boracay trip I've ever had, this is largely due to Discovery Shores. The place is just amazing, the view and the portion of the beach they occupy is the best. Security is tight so the vendors and boatmen won't bother you. You can also leave your belongings on the loungers and be assured that they will be there when you get back. The beachside staff are efficient and very competent, they will see to your every need even before you realize what you need. They go as far as cleaning your sun glasses and folding your towels and wraps.

The suites are well designed and beautifully appointed. We had around 6 pillows on our bed, and they were all soft and very conducive to sleeping. The bed is one of the best I've ever slept on (the best for me would still be the beds of Misibis). Each night the housekeeping crew will twist and fold one of the towels into an animal form, on the days we were there we had a seal, an elephant, and a squid(?).

Not so good though is the breakfast buffet. There was not one food item that stood out to me as good. The restaurant staff, either needed more training or they just weren't enough bodies to service the diners during peak hours. Coffee was good though.

On our last night we tried the dinner buffet and were pleasantly surprised.

Will definitely be back!

We bought a package for three days and two nights. It was so wonderful, we did not want to leave even to shop or site-see. From the time you arrive at the jetty port, the experience begins. Drivers, boat attendants, greeters, and every person at the resort offers the best in service. Your first experience in your room is to have your feet washed and massaged. Lovely snacks, amenities, fabulous pillows...it is all wonderful.

We have stayed lots of places, but the service at Discovery Shores is the difference. Someone comes around and offers frozen strawberries while you lounge beach-side browsing the internet. It couldn't be better. Another person also stops by to clean your sunglasses, straighten your towel if you get up. It was our anniversary and to our surprise, the staff decorated our room with rose petals.

Boracay is a beautiful beach to enjoy. Having a great place to stay and eat makes it the perfect experience. We will return! It is not overrated.

Room Tip: Choose the first tier for pool access, the second tier for tranquility.

Discovery Shores is a pleasant resort, with the best stretch of beach in Boracay! The service is good and attentive. The pool's small but with a beautiful beach, that's not too big a deal. Decent breakfast and food overall. Though, nothing spectacular. We stayed at a 2 bedroom suite and were very happy. The room fittings are good and we have no complaints. The house keeping staff are great, making an animal created from folding towels. My daughter loved the surprise after dinner each night, to find out which animal was created. We loved the free shuttle service provided which we used every night to try out restaurants around the island. Overall, we had a great time at Discovery Shores.
