Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Boracay
Ranked #20 of 151 Hotels in Boracay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We have just stayed for a week and had a second room with family staying too. For us the hotel was too far away from everything and the roads are so crowded with shuttles, ATV'S, and tricycles the island is too commercial and overcrowded.

Good Points
Clean rooms
Friendly staff
Nice pool
Good shuttle
Well maintained hotel
Quiet beach
Cold AC
Good free wifi
good cheap laundry service
Good selection of TV channels for rainy hours

Bad points
Location too far from d'mall
No local bars
Ants in the room
Flying ants in the reception
Bugs around the sink
Dirty beach (every hotel cleans its section except microtel who had a light tube, beer bottles, rubbish, poly cups from the hotel all over outside the hotel)
Noisy new air con as split units not used. If you keep on low it it is fine.
Rubbish restaurant not run by hotel (wanted to charge 300 paso to microwave a tub of food even when we had just bought some poor quality food from them)
Bar that has no customers and closes early
Nescafé machine for free drinks churns out cups of sludge would prefer kettle in the room or a machine that offers better coffee as all the buttons produce the same dark nasty coffee.
Small stretch of mud from the hotel to the road. I have no idea why they haven't covered this or made a path because after it has rained you need to cross a lake to get to road and the small local shops. This is easy for the hotel to fix by concreting it from the path outside the hotel to where the road is, it's a few meters.
Poor old TV's which seemed to have a habit of the sound going up and down.
Tricycles in this area will want to charge you 100 Passos per person to go anywhere if your not Filipino and some wont take you to the hotel. Thankfully my Filipino partner sorted the prices with me out of sight so we paid 20-30 per journey.
The massages are 350 paso per hour but expect the women to give you 40mins at the most if they can be bothered, go somewhere else for one.

Overall for the price paid I would stay somewhere closer to the action or your always having to get shuttles to and from the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't choose a sea view room they face the pool and it can be noisy.

We chose a room with a sea view and I'm glad we did; you get a perfect view of the sunset from the balcony. The room was adequate, clean and with everything you need if you're only staying a few days. The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant, also just on the beach was good and they had good cocktails too. The hotel is on a secluded bay which isa bit of a walk to the white beach but I like walking so an added delight and it's very romantic walking back at night (bring a torch). There's also a free minibus pretty much whenever you want to the town. Not sure I'd pay for hotel transport from the airport - it's a tiny place and public transport including tricycles is cheap and easy. If I came to Boracay again I'd certainly consider staying here.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view. It's worth the money.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights last July 2012. We were given an early check-in (it was a weekday) with welcome drinks. The room has 2 double beds, and the toilet is spacious with new shower head. The room and toilet is always clean The staff are well-mannered and knowledgeable from the driver, reception, waitress and cleaning staff. Definitely worth your money and will be back for more! This is the perfect getaway tucked in Diniwid Beach, away from the noise of station 2.
We asked them for medicine as I was having fever symptoms and they said they ran out of stock. So late at night, they asked their staff to go to the nearest Mercury (prob in another town) to purchase for us. Real sweet! Awesome service!

Some comments:
-the bed was sandy when we first came, one bed that is, until we left. So we just slept on one bed.
-arrange your transfers to and from the airport. the location is far away, so when we arrived we took the tricycle from D'Mall, and it cost us 180.
-make sure you syncronize your watch with the hotel. otherwise, you will be left by the shuttle, which passes by 20-40 mins. This happened to us twice and we had to take the tricycle, which will be at least 100 per way. Make sure you reserve beforehand and be at the meeting point 10 mins. before the time so you don't miss it.
-there was hair in my tocino meal, I asked the waitress to replace it, they did so without question. Look at your food properly.

Room Tip: I suggest you get a room either 1st/2nd floor since they don't have a lift (3 flrs only). Near t...

Transfer from airport to hotel -
Our adventure started once we landed at Kalibo airport. Transfer from Kalibo to hotel (bus - boat - bas) has been organized perfectly well. We were welcomed at the hotel with a drink.

Room -
We got a room with loud air-conditioning. Front door were not closing properly. We had to always push them to close and we had frequent problems with our magnetic cards opening the door. There were frequent blackouts, locally they took only few minutes. Safe lock was missing in the room, furnitures were making squeaking noise.

Interent -

It works whenever it feels like. And if it does the speed is too slow to do anything.
I guess it depends how many users is connected at the same time. To me it should always work no matter what.

Shuttle:
There is a shuttle from the hotel to d'mall. Usually they were on time, few times it happened they were before sheduled time and nobody waited for us, were we end up waiting for next one.
We have complained few times about it. But to us to be on the safe site we were always waiting for the bus 10 minutes before departure so they will not drive away without us anymore.

In house rest:
very good experience. Reasonable price. Very good and polite stuff.
No glass near the pool allowed (first time I had this)
Morning breakfast was ok altho they could give bigger portions. Big plus was: when late for breakfast they did not make a problem out of it.
On request they could make your breakfast vegetarian or enlarge with additional bread and jam and juice.

check-out:
Very disappointed!!!
After checkout we have loaded our begs on to the bus and waited inside for departure.
it was raining cats and dogs. I have been wondering for what are we waiting for in the bus. It happened to be "room check" to give us a green light to go. apparently they do a room check once you are waiting in the bus to check if we haven't stolen anything from there. They have called us back to reception in pouring rain to tell us that there are missing two face towels. Of course we haven't took them with us. Stuff blamed us trying to insinuate we took these towels with us. It made me very upset and clearly stated to check with house keeping why these towels are missing. It was very humiliating as all the stuff was looking at us and listening during our conversation and fight with receptionist. This is first time we have had such an incident with a hotel. in the end we have returned to the bus all wet. It turned out to be house keeping forgot to put these towels and note it down.

Overall:
Hotel is located on a isolated beach were it is quite. There is lots of space.
Hotel is trying to be very international, however there is lots of improvements to be done there.

Room Tip: do not take a room on the ground floor. ask for A/C less unit noise if possible.

Thank you for taking the time to post a detailed review of your recent stay with us. We apologize that you had a very disappointing check-out experience. These lapses have been addressed with our concerned Supervisors in order to avoid a recurrence in the future. We do understand your frustration and we offer no excuse.

Please know that your feedback is extremely valuable to us. We are replacing loud air condition units with new ones. Just last week, we installed outdoor antennas that outstandingly improved our wifi connection anywhere in the Hotel area. We also apologize for the confusion in our "no glass allowed in the pool area" practice, it is for safety reason that the Hotel uses plastic tumbler instead to avoid breakages and accident in the pool area with barefooted guests around.

It is our hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences this may have caused you and your guest.

Its a good thing that we had arranged for land transfer from Kalibo International Airport to Mircotel and vice versa. We are met by hospitable and friendly staff of Microtel. When we arrived in Mirotel, they served welcome drinks, welcome necklace and fresh towels with eucalyptus scent. Microtel has plenty of rooms, we booked for 9 rooms. Room was okay, they served bottomless coffee and tea , water at the lobby :)) It has a swimming pool, and beach front, and a place where kids will play.
Its a nice place to relax and enjoy boracay. Its a good place to stay if you are with a family, team outing, and for a couple .Its far from Station 2-3 but they provide a shuttle, you just have to inform the frontdesk. Room Service was great.
Food was okay, we have a complimentary breakfast and we arranged for a buffet lunch and dinner.
Wifi is slow, maybe because there are plenty of foreign guest using wifi that time. They provide lan cable if you prefer to use lan connection. :)
They allow us to do team building activities :)) Its Its really more fun at Mircotel Boracay!

Of course it is not the ideal place to relax, but there is a very good value for money. At least there is a small area of the hotel where your children will have the opportunity to play in the evenings. There are no annoying sellers of different nonsense, who do not leave you the opportunity to relax on the beach. There is a free shuttle to the main street of white beach. And at sunset you will have the opportunity to have a pleasant walk from white beach to the hotel. Trust me, this hotel is much better than the hotels that are in the top rating.

My family and i went to this hotel last May 21 2012 and stayed here for four days. We got their package and it was definitely worry free! there was a pick up from kalibo airport. we were welcomed at caticlan by their staff which was very helpful, accommodating and courteous. When we got to the hotel we were welcomed by a very refreshing and best iced tea i've ever had, with matching cold towel to cool us off. :) We were also given welcome necklaces that serves as a souvenir from microtel boracay.

We had our lunch at Mama's fish house, and i must say that their food was great! fish n' chips, adobo, sweet n sour fish and bistek tagalog! they offer big servings as well but if you're sharing order an extra cup of rice. :) breakfast is served in this resto too. Everyday breakfast menu is different, thursday is the day for filipino breakfast. ;)

the room was spacious with two queen size beds and another semi lounge bed by the window. all in all i think 5 people can fit in our room! :) it was clean and our bathroom too! soap and shampoo are provided. But if you left your tootbrush n slippers, there's a placard in the room that says to contact them. I'm not sure though if its for free...but i guess it is. :)

There's also a play area that my baby really enjoyed! And the pool was great too!

The part that i didn't like was the beach was quite full of big waves. I don't know if it's because we came there, it was habagat season already. but maybe in amihan season beach is also great...as per the staff, it is better too. Also this hotel is very far from the white beach with the stretch of restaurants and of course the d'mall. Good thing is that they provide shuttle service for FREE to get you to d'mall and pick u up too. schedule is every hour and you just have to let the front desk know in advance the time slot you want to take. pick up from d'mall back to the hotel's latest time is 12mn. If you want to party at night you can always take a tricycle which costs 150 pesos 1 way. You can also use the shuttle to take you to d'mall in the morning so you can enjoy swimming in the white beach.

But i am still glad we chose this hotel because it is far from all the noise and crowded white beach. :) Over all it was a nice and still convenient stay for us. Staff were great!

Room Tip: get a room with balcony to dry your towels. :)
