We had a wedding to attend in Manila where we stayed at the Shangri-La hotel in Mandaluyong. Two nights after, we hit the beaches at Boracay island.
Our resort hotel had a great location in terms of beach frontage (station-1) which meant we had a narrow lot from beach to road. We were fortunate to have every day sunny without any typhoons considering the month we visited the beach. Water was crystal clear and the sand was just gorgeous powder (the kind that never gets too hot for your feet).
Accommodations were clean and neat, sufficient for a beach vacation. Plenty to do and shop considering the low season. Food left much to be desired but the staff did their best to accommodate us. They were courteous and when no brewed coffee could be had for the breakfast that was included in the package, they bought it from the neighboring resort. The following day, they finally replaced their broken coffee brewer. Loved the fresh coconut juice which was taken directly from the trees within the resort.
Each day we had pearl (southsea and freshwater) and bead mongers at our heals. There were also beach masseurs available any time of the day. There was plenty of variety in terms of food since each resort had a speciality. We liked the one beside us which pulled out a buffet grille on the beach each night. There was also the ubiquitous D'Mall which had everything we needed from bottled water to trinkets, beach wear and food from all over the world. All of this within walking distance to our hotel. If we were tired we took the motorized tri-cycles for about $7.00 to $9.00 a trip. Reasonable considering that we could cram 5 to 7 people in the side car and back of driver.
For the location and price, Sur is a great cozy place and their package frees your from travel worries in terms of getting to the hotel from the airport. Someone from the hotel was there to pick up our group and bus us to the ferry boat which crossed over to Boracay island. From there another bus took us straight to the hotel. Same on our trip back to Manila where we stayed one more evening before returning to Texas.
