“A small family owned b&b, no non-sense, and warmest hospitality”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

An overview: We were greeted by Mr. Vaughan Pratt himself, with a warm smile and cold drink. Despite the poor weather, the treatment we received from Vaughn and his staff was exceptional. We thought that our stay in this inn is going to be very nice, and how right we were.

The inn: My first thought was okay, the bar and restaurant needs a little fix as it shows signs of tiredness already. It has a traditional nipa hut design, nothing much to rave about, but we can feel being welcomed into the place. The place offers spa and diving packages, just ask them about their rates. Right on the beach front, they have small huts with beach chairs free for relaxing or watching the kiteboarding activities.

The room: We booked a Garden Room, initially we wanted the Ocean View room, but we are not disappointed at all. The lush garden is so beautiful, refreshing and quiet, we have no trouble sleeping at night at all. Each room has a veranda and if you just want to sit there and enjoy the garden view, you can do so with peace and quiet.

As for the room itself, it smelled like fresh linens when we arrived and very clean. There are two double beds, a mini ref, working aircon, cable tv, and a large wardrobe with safety box. The beds are okay, mattress is clean and the pillows are soft and plush. I immediately checked the toilet and bath, and no disappointment here, it was very clean albeit small, with rolls of tissue paper and complimentary soap. If you the type of person who cannot take a cold bath, then you need not to worry, the hot water supply seems to be ample for everyone in the room. The only downside I can think of is if you are a plus size person, you may find it difficult to move around the bathroom. Also, you may need to ask the front desk for extra bath towels. No phone in the room so you need to walk to the front desk for stuff that you may need. No big deal, it's not that far anyway.

The location: It was the next day when we realized that Station 3 is a bit far from the restaurants and bars in Station 1 and 2 so we need to walk about a kilometer to get there. But considering that Station 2 is where all the tourists converge, it tends to be noisy and crowded, so if you want a quiet escape at night, Station 3 is the a great location. We don't mind the long walk as there are many sights along the way so each walk is not boring. Another plus is there are almost to no hawkers at all. There is only one hawker I have encountered right in front of the inn so it was not so bad compared to the hawkers swarming in and around Station 2. This is also the location where kiteboarders go to so if you want learn or just watch them zip through the air, this is the right location.

The food: Breakfast is included but limited to pancakes, waffles and toasts. Huge servings of breakfast, but again, limited. It will be very nice if they can offer Filipino breakfast too. However, like all the other hotel restaurants in Boracay, a meal would be around Php350-500, which is expensive for us. Good thing the inn allows food and drink inside so if you are traveling on a tight budget, it will be better to buy lunch from cheap restaurants and have it to go (we recommend Smoke Restaurant located near D'Mall and Hey Jude resort, and Chicken Inasal in D'Mall).

The staff: When we were having a little chit-chat with Vaughn and some of his staff, we instantly felt that we are home. They always have a smile and very informative too. Don't be shy asking them for things you need, if they have it, they will give it. If they don't, they will tell you where to get it. Another plus is they helped us get to Caticlan port where we took a van going to Kalibo. Vaughn asked one of this staff (we forgot his name, sorry) to take us to Tabon port where he took care of everything from paying the fees to assisting us with our baggage until we reached Caticlan port. He even took us to where the vans to Kalibo are located. This is a huge plus in their service for a small amount of fee.

The amenities: Well, no swimming pool or fitness gym, but who needs a pool if you have the long stretch of white beach right in front? And if you need exercise in the morning, no need for treadmills. Just walk all the way to Station 1, or if you are up for the challenge, walk to Station 4. Strong and fast wireless internet is available but weak signal inside the room. If you don't have a laptop or smartphone with you, there are two desktop computers in the lobby. Another huge plus for tech savvy guests.

The rundown: Backpackers and young couples will enjoy Blue Mango Inn for its simplicity and warm hospitality, thrown with great service. Families with young kids and elderly might find the location a bit far from the central hub but they can ask for transportation assistance from the staff or take the trikes on the main road. For the super cheap price, the place is a great value for budget travelers and those who would not compromise quality service for discount fees.

Choose a garden room.... it's nice to open your door first thing in the morning and let the cool fresh air wake you up... although it won't last too long as the heat (even in July) will hit you soon enough. I also had an upstairs (above the cafe) room which was fine and had a view of the ocean... still, the garden room was better (more windows). The staff at Blue Mango were great. Zig (the dive instructor) was patient and extremely careful that I (a new scuba diver) stayed safe and ok. I highly recommend the accommodation & dive packages. It is worth noting that Station 3 is some walking distance from the food area at D'Mall. However, for around A$1 you can catch a tricycle along the main road and save your footwear. I'd suggest walking one way and getting a tricycle the other. Best bits about staying at Blue Mango are - it's close to the beach, the staff are so helpful (just ask...), Vaughan (the owner) can give advice on all things Philippino... (even places to stay in Manila), and MOST OF ALL you really are able to RELAX!

Room Tip: Choose a garden room.

It was the positive reviews that convinced me to book the Blue Mango Inn. Fresh from spending 5 glorious days in Boracay, my husband, son, and I could not have chosen better accomodation to stay in. Vaughn and his staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived in Caticlan airport. His staff member, Gavin, was at the airport waiting to accompany us and to facilitate the transfer from the airport to a motored tricycle, to the jetty, to the ferry that took us to this paradise island. Once on the island, Gavin drove us to Blue Mango Inn which was located beachfront on White Beach. Needless to say, we reached our accomodation hassle-free, safe, and in good hands. On our return, Vaughn's staff member accompanied us all the way to the airport as well.
I can't comment enough on how hospitable and personable Vaughn and his staff was, No wonder that 50% of his clients are returning guests. He was also informative, charming, and hooked us up with a tour operator with an electric car that took us on an inland tour that included zip lining at Mt. Luho.
Blue Mango Inn is situated in Station 3, a qiuiet section of White Beach which was a blessing in disguise. Station 1 & 2 were busy, chaotic at times, and noisy so at the end of the day, we welcomed the divine peacefulness and relaxation of Blue Mango's beachfront property, just listening to the ocean waves and the tropical breeze.
The accomodation gives you an accurate picture on his website. We had 2 deluxe garden rooms. It was nothing more, nothing less. They were roomy, comfortable, functional, practical with air conditioning, free wifi, safety deposit box and hot/cold showers. Blue Mango was not the HIlton or Shangri-la but nothing can compare to Vaughn's likeable personality, and his attention to little details. Being in the hospitality trade myself for 26 years, I was really impressed. Vaughn, we will also now be a part of Blue Mango's returning guests.

Room Tip: Order the mango pancakes. Also do the tour around the island on the motor boats as part of the cult...

My husband and I needed a quiet vacation full of quietly sitting on the beach and reading books- taking breaks only to go swim in the ocean. We definitely got it at the Blue Mango. It is in a quiet section of the beach on Boracay. The rooms are fairly basic, but spacious and have enough storage that we could unpack out of the suitcases. It has a little restaurant with Wifi and not 50 feet out of the front door are beach chairs on white sandy beaches overlooking the blue ocean water. Vaughn is the owner of this Inn and is as cool as can be. It seems he's always around to give advice or answer questions or even just chitchat. He hooked us up with a scuba diving package that we felt was a super good deal. (We got our advanced open water cert from a "chill" local that works at Blue Mango named Ziggy.)

They provided free breakfast made to order that was super tasty. More food than I wanted even. (I had mango pancakes and mango juice with grenadine. Mmmmm.)

In the evening we walked the mile or two down the beach into the "busy section" of Boracay to find dinner at one of the many island restaurants. Nice relaxing walk along a sand path. No complaints about what we got for our money. Very satusfied with our vacation.

Room Tip: If you scuba dive- get a package that includes your hotel booking. Ask for Mango juice with gren...

This old hve to be one of the best. Quiet, peaceful, great food and excellent service.

A short walk from shops but away from the busy section of the beach full of boats.

Excellent dive centre.

This is our 3rd stay and not our last.

There are a number of cons for this place:
1) Their mango was not blue
2) This not a 5 star hotel.
3) Not close to the night clubs
4) Cannot think of any

The pros:
1) Their mango was golden and delicious
2) The nice ambiance, beach front, and smiling staff makes it even better than 5 stars.
3) Far from the noisy clubs but was a short if you want to see the action.
4) Owner by a very nice couple who always cater to your needs.
5) Reasonable price and free breakfast

I have stayed there twice and will continue to patronize it.

Our second visit to boracay and first stay at blue mango, this is where we will come back to. Don't expect the shangri la, but perfect if you're looking for an ideal location with lovely rooms in a garden setting, and personalized service. Vaughan made sure our son had cereal and fresh bread rolls and gave him some toys for the beach. The ladies bring cold purified water out to you at the beach. It's all the little touches that make blue mango unique and very special. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be telling our clients and friends to stay here.

Room Tip: We were given a 3 bedroom room just for our family of 3! Seems like there are plenty of spacious roo...
