“Think twice before you choose this place...”
Reviewed September 26, 2010

There were quite a few people recommended this place on some web sites. Thus, when we decided to go to Boracay for our 2010 Sep holiday, I booked a 3-bedroom flat through xxboracayxxxxx, com. Although the sea view is spectacular, I would suggest you to think twice before you choose this place for your next stay because:

1. They charge additional 5% if you wish to pay by credit card.
At check out, we didn't have enough cash in hand and need to pay by credit card. They first claimed that their credit card machine is not working. We told them that they should be able to use authorisation form with our credit card info to collect money when the machine is back to function. Finally, they agreed to charge on our credit card but without informing us that there would be an additional 5% charge. We found out this when we signed the form. They said we booked through xxboracayxxxxx.com (booking agent) and the agent should already informed us. (The agent didn't "inform" us but only generally mentioned "some hotel may charge additional 5%" in the confirmation e-mail but NOT SAYING A WORD ABOUT IT IN THE HOTEL VOUCHER.) At the end, we paid additional 5% as we had no time to argue more in order not to further delay our departure. The check out process took us 40 minutes.

2. Poor equipment maintenance
There is no air conditioner in the most flats' living room. In the first flat we checked in, the phone was not working and no air con in the living room . So they moved us to the second flat and mentioned that EVERY unit has no air con in the living room. After 2 days, they called us and told us that they could move us to another flat with an air con in the living room so we moved but the Jacuzzi is not working and the water pressure was not stable. The water was even stopped at one point when we had a shower.

3. There were many many... mosquitoes and insects.

4. Out of walking distance to the beach front.
They only offered 4 shuttles at 9am, 12noon, 3pm & 6pm to D-Mall per day. Thus, basically we need to pay for every in and out. As the resort is up on the hill, we could not clean up ourselves immediately after swimming in the sea.

5. Some of the staff were not helpful
We asked for a wine opener at the reception and he simply told us that they don't have it. Another day, they informed us that they could not clean the room as we have not left the flat key at reception (we were not informed to leave the key at the reception).

Again, although the view is very beautiful and the kitchen is fully equipped so you could cook a big meal in there, there are still many things I don't like about the place. It's suggested to think twice before you book.

We were planning a trip for myself and my wife and 6 friends to Boracay. We did a lot of research into hotels/resorts in Boracay - looking for somethinge in the mid-price range level and eventually settled on Cohiba Villa's. Actually the 'villas' in the titrle is slightly misleading as they are actually apartments. We arranged for 3 different pick-ups from Caticlan Airport - two went flawlessly though unfortunately the third party were left stranded and it took some phone calls to get them collected. Not a good first impression for them. We chose 2 x 2 bdm and 1 x 1 bdm. We had a choice of which 2 bdm units we wanted and chose ones as close as possible to the pool. We mainly chose Cohiba due to the views on their website and in this regard we were not disappointed. Overall the apartments were clean and in good condition, although one of the air-conditioners in one main bedroom died - and we had to change to a different apartment. The selection and quality of the food was very good and we spent many breakfasts and luches eating and drinking poolside. Althought Cohiba was not exactly walking distance to D'Mall or White Beach - it was quite easy and conveniant to make use of the Cohiba van's. Also best to call Cohiba to arrange collection and transportation back to Cohiba as the motor/tricycles struggled to get up the steep hill to get to the apartments. Also as Cohiba is built on the side of a hill and many apartments involved lots of flights of stairs, you get quite a bot of excercise getting to and from the pool, you apartments - so not recommended for those excercise challenged or people in wheelchairs/crutches. Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Rodolfo who offered and took us out on escusions, in his personal time. Main negatives were understocked utensils in the kitchens and small details - such as providing a TV channel list and lack of face towels. If we visited Boracay again we would more than likely stay here again.

Our room was nice and cozy but since the hotel is located at the Bulabog beach there are not much activities in the area. If you opt to stay in a more tranquil place then this hotel is recommended.

Rose ( our housekeeper) did a really good job in keeping our room tidy. She even washed the dishes for us. She is friendly, hardworking and trustworthy.

Rey (one of the drivers) responded promptly whenever we needed shuttle service during wee hours.

Most of the front desk staff are very welcoming.

All is not perfect though, we have a few complains:
- The jacuzzi in room D has a leak.
- There is no air conditioner in the living room.

But all in all, we enjoyed our stay.

Stayed with my friends here for 4D/3N and booked through myboracayguide (which I highly recommend as well).

We booked the 2-bedroom apartment which looks exactly as the one in the pictures.

While I can marvel on the spaciousness and the amazing view of the sea, here are a few facts that might be helpful for you if you want to book this hotel:

LOCATION:

The location is on Bulabog beach which is quite a walk if you try to walk to White Beach as it is on top of a hill but they offer free shuttle at 12, 3 and 6pm. If you miss it you can arrange for their van to take you to white beach/dmall for a fee of 100 pesos per way which is the same fee if you take a tricycle from White Beach to the resort.

ROOM SERVICE:

They are a little bit slow in responding to our requests and you have to take note that they will only change sheets every 3 days so we have to sleep on the same dirtied sheet during the duration of our stay even if I requested if they can change it even once.

FOOD:

They serve good sandwiches but the local Filipino breakfast is a bit overpriced (250 pesos for a meal) and the local tapa meat is chewy. Be prepared to wait at least 20 mins for your order even if you are the only customer in the restaurant. They also gave us 500 pesos voucher (which is equivalent to 2 meals).

ROOM:

The master room is huge with a jacuzzi, but the common room with two single beds is tiny, I think it is meant for kids, not for two adults as it has little room for you to move and no dresser as well. There is a phone in the room but you have to ideal the hotel's full number as it is not connected internally.

RECEPTION:

They are quite nice and since English is the second language in the Philippines, you won't have to worry about language problems. Even tricycle drivers speak good English.

This serviced apartment is good if you can cook your own food as breakfast is not included in the package. Each unit has a microwave, fridge, stove and utensils but no washing machine which could've been more useful. But since the price is cheaper than the other serviced apartments wherein here you can have peace and quiet sleep, nice sea view, living room, veranda then be prepared for such trade-offs.

This is undoubtedly a great property and there is no second thought about it. The Villas are really exclusive and you have a lot of private space. The views are astounding and the air conditioners in the rooms are very effective. However there is no air conditioning in the Living room. I am talking about 2BR villas . I am not sure if they have it in the 3BR villas. The kitchen is fullly equipped with Ref, Microwave, Complete 5 burner cooking range with Oven, Utensils etc. I would recommend carrying a few laddles though if planning to cook at the Villas. There is a little mini basic soda, chips and beer shop right next to the pool. The restaurant is all rite but not great. The pool has a very well maintained temperature or may be the weather did its trick when we were there but it was very welcoming. You could order food at the pool area from the restaurant it is not overpriced for the kind of place it is.

What else. I covered the food, boarding and lodging. Yes, Entertainment - They do not have any entertainment area like where you could play ball or a pool / billiard table/ Video games etc but unless you are traveling with kids, it wont bother much. Apart from that the staff was willing to grill the fish for us even if we bought it from outside.

The thing that wont leave you -- Well, may sound surprising but the rooms are a lil prone to mosquitoes, ants and lizards. not big though. You just have to make sure to keep the sliding net doors always together so that you can enjoy the breeze without the little interruptions that I just mentioned. and please, dont be wary with this comment of mine, its just an honest feedback for the management and for all the probable travellers to this place. just a word of caution. THE PLACE IS FANTASTIC.

I ,may or may not go back again but would recommend if somebody is looking for a little luxury without a hole in the pocket.

I travelled to this villa with my sister in mid-May and stayed there for one day only. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite (halfway between the pool and the reception area). There is quite a large number of Asians (esp Hong Kongers and Taiwanese in the villa).

Attractiveness:
- Rooms are fantastic, with a spacious living room
- Seaview in bedroom and living room
- Jacuzzi in the bathroom, which accommodates two persons - GOOD!
- Infinity Pool (hardly anyone there when you swim before 12:00 in the morning)
- Sufficient kitchen utensils; can freely cook there
- Spacious bathroom, with two sinks

Shortcomings:
- No Air-con in the living room (and the open kitchen) so you can imagine the hot temperature when u just wake up and go to the living room
- Small recpetion area
- Staff not welcoming enough (esp the guy at the reception)
- Small hotel shuttle (at most accommodate 8 persons)
- Food & drinks in the restaurant is a bit expensive
- Seaview is partly blocked by the other suites in front of us

We had a super relaxing stay with kids & relatives in a spacious cliffside 3-bedroom Cohiba Villa unit w garden...Cohiba is away from the busy White beach area of Station 1 to 3...it is 5-min by shuttle or tricycle from d Mall and located in the high-end residential neighborhood of Bulabog hills over-looking the ocean with its own 25m pool. We also had our own gourmet kitchen to do our own cooking. We saved a bundle staying in spacious Cohiba as opposed to staying to 2 or 3 small hotels rooms. Its only drawback is that you have to take a long walk or 5-min shuttle ride to get to swim in the White beach. But since we have been to Boracay before, we enjoyed the change of scenery, the more relaxing, spacious and private accomodations, and great value of Cohiba Villas.
