It was Friday morning, when we entered the Calypso Resort we were all amazed with it's natural beauty. We were greeted by the curve smiles of the people there. They treated us very well and they are so hospitable. after we had checked in, a young girl ushered us into our room and mind us, our room is so elegant! It has a simple design ,yet, as what i have told you it is elegant. we made a little rest, then my friends and I took a bike. we were all glad as we travel the beautiful place of Bohol. we went back to Calypso Resort wearing smiles and bringing the enjoyment of adventuring Bohol.we also enjoy diving as well as swimming in the pool every night. our stay at Calypso was truly worth remembering and we only wish we could be there again. it was one of the awesome places we had stayed.

we came a day before to book in a supposedly spacious and newer oroom. we dealed directly with the owner, whom looked very nice and helpfull. we just came here for the free bike. thinking it was a sweet deal, BUT.....
the next morning, we arrive and ask if we can leave our bags as check in time is 2PM. a young girl in the kitchen making breakfast. tries to find our name in the booking list, but was not able to find our booking there. Unfortunately, they had a room available and so we checked in.
we move in a big dirty room, that is not new like we were told. We arent very fussy so we just put our stuff down and take the bike. i get on and try to start it ..... nothing with the starter, ok ill try the kick start then...... noting, ok... i look for a startermotor.... find it, the cable is snapped. so i go back to reception and ask for an other bike.
i get another bike that start straight away. here we go !!!
after 100m i have to make an urgent stop as an other bike was ridding on the wrong side of the road, and no brake. WTF!!! now my big toe is bloody as i was wearing flipflops and that i had to stop with my feet. Another 10 minutes down the road we almost had another crash with a tricycle because the front brake wasnt working properly as well!!!!

we bring the bike back to the 'resort' to tell them that the bike has no back brakes and that its dangerous to lend it to your customers. the girl at reception bqrely speaks english and thought our mishqps were funny and was laughing the whole time. We asked for another bike and she said she would speak to the owner but the owner never came to see us and we didnt get a new bike.

AVOID THIS 'RESORT' AT ALL COST!!!!! Hope Home doznt he road is 650pesos per night with a free bike and they're much nicer, helpful and their bikes are safer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh salt water showers, termite dust in bed and German parties at 3am? Need more? Management is more concerned with the next cold beer than your satisfaction. I gave the owner the key to the motorcycle to be repaired and he said the next day that it (key) was in the toilet..he was drunk of course. Claims to be a dive master..hahhaha

Room Tip: Avoid this place, sleep on the beach like a dog is better

All of the hotels listed in the lonely planet were sold out, but the tourist desk at the airport suggested this place, when we told them we were looking for something less than 1000 pesos per day.

The free motorbike included in the cost of the room sounded like a great idea, but once we arrived, we realized why - it is in the middle of nowhere, and so you need a bike just to go anywhere.

After checking in, taking a shower and a quick swim, we wanted to drive into town and get dinner, and only at this point, were we told by the staff that they had lost the guest key for the room. They have their own key, but that they would need to lock/unlock the room for us.

Half-way into town, the motorbike had a flat. We called the hotel staff and asked them to help us out. Neither of the two local women working at the hotel knew how to ride a motorbike, and the guy who maintained the bikes for the hotel had the day off. The girls only suggestion was that we flag down a passer by, and ask them to help us.

We asked the women to call the owner, but as they had no credit with which to make any outbound phone calls (???), they gave us his number. The German owner was 20km away from the hotel, having dinner. He was similarly unhelpful when we reached him by phone.

After pushing the motorbike, in darkness for a km or two, we found a repair shop that was still open..and as soon as the tire was fixed, promptly rode back to the hotel, checked out, and told the owner (who had since returned) that we didn't want to pay for a room with no key, and a motorbike with absolutely zero support during troubles.

As we tried to leave, the owner started shouting at us, "locked" us into the property (attaching a padlock to the gate, but that we were able to shake free), and then called the tourist police (who soon tracked us down to the far better hotel down the road that we moved to).

Once we explained everything to the tourist police, they seemed quite sympathetic,to our side of the story (one of the two even gave me his phone number, offering to help us find a guide to explore the countryside the following day). I ultimately gave them 300 pesos as a rental fee to cover the use of the motorbike (the rate that most places in town charge for a bike rental), as at this point, I was so stressed out that I just wanted to make the problems go away.

This was an absolutely horrible way to begin our time in Bohol. I've never had such an awful experience at a hotel. I have absolutely no idea how you can rent your guests a room with no key, tell them they are on their own when the bike you provide them breaks down a few km from the hotel, and then call the police when they want to leave a few hours later for a far nicer establishment.

We ended up staying at the Evelyn resort, which was amazing.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

We stayed one night in this 'resort'. The owner was a little bit strange but friendly. The room was basic, dark and smelly. The beach, 5 min walk from the resort isn't really special, it's full of boats and dirt. We used the free motorbike to check other rooms in Alona Beach. So we checked out after one night, and we will never return again!!

Room Tip: Bamboo house
