“Decent Accomodations”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

We stayed here for 4 days during a family vacation. Rooms are clean, staff are helpful and accommodating. There's a big pool if you want to take a swim. Hotel is within walking distance from Robinsons Mall. Restaurant at the hotel is ok.Reasonably priced buffet at P299/person.

Tricycles are available to go around the city for P50 in the day, it's higher during the evening around P70-80. The more popular restaurants are along Rizal Avenue which is 15 minutes by tricycle.

It's clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff are attentive. There's a nice courtyard and pool. The kitchen people are responsive. We were supposed to have our breakfast earlier than their normal serving due to our early flight back to manila.... The lobby staff forgot to relay it to the kitchen/resto people.... we arrived there... peace time no food.. but the kitchen people were so quick to respond... thank you guys.. you deserve a commendation....

We actually found the place accidentally where the first hotel that we're trying to check was apparently fully booked. So we hit the road again and decided to stop over the place for a quick refreshment and found out their rooms are on a discounted rate. We stayed there for our last night in PPS last April 2013. The room was actually a 2double bed room w/ basic toiletries and sheets but are just fine. We just stayed at the hotel to doze the night away before our 7AM flight back to MNL the next day. Breakfast buffet was amazing, they had tons to choose from. Haven't tried their pool but it looked enticing. Better try to jump in their next time!

On a tour with three other couples, we were at the Asturias for three nights. Comfortable lobby. Rooms were fine - clean and comfortable but not luxurious. A very pretty inner courtyard with swimming pool, large palm trees and native vegetation. The dining area is adjacent to the lobby. I would rate the morning and evening buffets as quite good, with outstanding service. Please be advised that if you do not have your own transportation, the only reasonable dining option is at the hotel. There are no eating establishments or retail stores close to this hotel. I would say if you want to do an evening stroll you are limited to the hotel grounds.

Generally I only do positive reviews, I'll leave the angry ones to other people, yet I found myself angry at the desk service at this hotel, here's how to avoid upsetting yourself at what is really an adequate hotel. Firtly the positive aspects, we chose their top room, the executive suite, mostly for the fantastic jacuzzi and comfortable bed, the room is clean, spaceous and very well appointed with TV, kettle and microwave oven but more about this later. The pool is large, a perfect depth and lovely for lounging in when the hotel is quiet in the morning. The a la carte menu is great with some of the best food we've eaten since we got here. Apart from the desk staff the rest of the staff have the typical friendliness and helpfulness of the island and couldn't have been nicer. So what went wrong, my fault basically, when you arrive at the the hotel the lovely surroundings and smart decor give the imression of an A list hotel, and in some respects it is, in others it is most certainly not. In that dichotomy I found myself short tempered and not enjoying my visit as much as I should. On arrival the desk clerk wanted room payment in advance, issued a receipt (don't lose it because they'll want to see it when you check out) and let us know that all transactions needed to be in cash, perhaps because we arrived on a motorbike (P450 a day for a three week hire) with just small backpacks, clearly that makes us untrustworthy! Not being able to charge lunch and dinner to the room account was tricky so load up on cash before you go, dinner (delicious) for two with a bottle of wine came to P2000. The down side was the choice of wine, Chilean cabernet sauvignon or Hardy’s cabernet sauvignon and that was it, this was the point I should have realised the truth and saved my BP later on. Lunch was nice but the side dish of crisps (potato chips) were stale and soft, the chef either hadn't tried them or didn’t care, breakfast was pretty dire, a buffet, largely cold and picked over by the early risers, the fresh cooked omelette was OK but under whipped and over cooked. What else should have clued me in that this was a B list hotel with A list pretentions, perhaps the top of the range executive suite with two sachets of inferior powder coffee and two sachets of coffeemate, that's it. Of course when we checked out, I'm nearly 60 and my wife is somewhat younger, two dangerous hoodlums with no room tab and crash helmets we couldn't leave until they'd checked the minibar and presumably counted towels, bathrobes, cheap paper slippers and made sure the TV and AC were still working, then they demanded to see the receipt for the room, at this point I lost the plot a bit and was rude, now I have the guilt to deal with as well as the irritation. Should you go to this hotel? Yes but don't be fooled into thinking it is A list, don't arrive on a motor bike, load up your wallet and don't lose that receipt.

Big Room.. Big Room... Big Room...

Was in Palawan from Nov 7 - 9 to attend an IT Conference, while Typhoon Haiyan was devastating the region... :(

ROOM

- Plenty of space to move/walk around (32sqm per their website).
- Neat and clean
- Nice beddings
- bigger than average T&B

FOOD (Breakfast)

- Is okay, not too many choices. Nothing to rave about

INTERNET

- So slow... Not sure if it was brought about by too many guests accessing the net (Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda). I had so much trouble rebooking my cancelled flight that I had to resort to using my cellphone to call the airline

LOCATION

- Not sure but it seems we were able to go around the city with ease (to/from the Hotel).

I stayed there as delegate (sponsored accommodation). Try to catch their 50% for a very good deal. http://www.asturiashotel.ph/

The Hotel was ideally located a bit south but close enough to major tourist areas and attractions.
Its only few minutes away from the restaurants and a walk away from the Robinsons - which was a big plus.

The Hotel had arranged the airport pick-up and the representative who had picked us up was very accommodating and friendly. Though our flight was delayed, but he's all smiles when we arrived.

Upon arrival, the receptionist were all accommodating and friendly. However nothing exceptional to remember.

The rooms are very spacious and has a mini fridge which was pretty useful, if you wanna buy some food and beverage from the Mall. No Minibar in though from the Hotel.

The room's furnishings are basic as well as the toiletries. One thing that they need to improve is the curtain as this does not give a full shade during the day, awakening you in the morning. This could have been nice if the views were good but unfortunately not as construction is ongoing on the next plot.

TV's cable reception is a little bit blurry, however International Channels are big plus. Swimming pool is nice and not much people were using so we were able to use the facility exclusively.

The stay was overall good.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back side has more nicer views but rooms near the reception has better wifi signal
